Just wondering what your take is on this fight?
Assuming James Toney is in at least the same shape he was vs. Booker, I think this is his fight to lose. The only thing I see stopping him is agravating an injury.
Ruiz has stated he's going to look to use his size and reach advantage to try and jab and keep Toney on the outside ( ) If he does this, he's doomed for trying to stray from what he's good at. If he does what he's good at, he's going to get hit with some flush shots he won't see coming on the way in. Fear of getting hit on the way in is what seemed to spell disaster for him in the Jones fight.
I think Toney will make him pay if he lunges in (along with beating on his kidneys) and pick him apart and break him down.
Toney hasn't lifted weights since before the Booker fight. I talked to Freddy Roach, and he mentioned he's finally got Toney to agree to give up the heavy weight training. Roach attributed Toney's reccent injuries to the lifting.
As for the Juice, probably.
Ever hear of a guy named Evander Holyfield?
Come on.
Why all this talk of Toney being a middlewight, and not being able to carry the weight?
Chris Byrd weighed 168 for his 1st pro fight, I don't see any idiots talking about how he can't carry the weight.
LOOK at him in those pics where he's 227. He's very solid, didn't lose any stamina, and was tuning on Booker the whole time. The only reason it went 12 was because of Toney's arm.
Again, a bunch of you have your heads up your asses.
Toney's a big guy, and was starving himself to make middleweight.
He had enough fights at Cruiser to get used to carrying the weight. Now that he's made the transition to Heavyweight, he's looked very solid and conditioned carrying the weight.
Toney has enough skill and ring savvy he doesn't need to worry about problems most guys have adjusting to the weight.
Face it. He's a HEAVYWEIGHT now, and he's going to beat Ruiz like a red headed step child.
215 or not, that weight was not a good boxing weight for him. It had to be a lot of fat. He was no where near the muscle mass he is now when he played football, I garauntee that. Also, Deion never played for Michigan so I do not see how Toney beat him up. Football weight and boxing weight are different things entirely. I also weighed more when I played football and would weigh 170 right now if I still played, but I box and I weigh 148.
Toney is a totally different kind of 215 now than he was in school days. He is solid but make no mistake about it, Toney belonged in the classes below heavyweight for boxing.
you're right about deion sanders, it was at U of Mich training camp - this is from james' biography:
James Nathaniel Toney was born on August 24, 1968 in Grand Rapids Michigan. He excelled at both football and amateur boxing and became one of his high school’s top football players He was offered university football scholarships to Michigan State and Western Michigan schools. He blew that opportunity at a University of Michigan training camp when he become involved in an altercation with Deion Sanders. According to Toney, during the tryout he and Sanders got into a confrontation and exchanged words which escalated to the point where Toney hit Sanders. It was then that Toney realized that he was not a team player and decided to focus his attention on boxing.
hmm
not really, james weighed 215 lbs when he was a football player at the University of Michigan in 1988 ( ironically, he was good but got kicked off the team for beating up teammate Dion Sanders ). why james started his career by going all the way down to 152 ( junior middlweight ) i'll never know. even with the torn tendons, JT looked great against Booker, Ruiz isn't really any better than Booker ( he just cheats better ). as i've said before, Toney will win the fight, probably not on the scorecards but he'll win the fight

Great for Megadeth but who the hell cares about thrash? A few thousand people tops.
The Sex Pistols embodied the feelings and sentiments of an entire generation of disenfranchised Brits. They birthed an entire genre of music. The punk movement was among the most important in music history; it snatched music back into the hands of working class when it was dominated by pompous college students with expensive equipment and an elitist attitude. Without the Sex Pistols there would be no punk, metal, thrash, hardcore etc. etc. as we know it.
True, these kinds of music would eventually come along, but not in the form that you know them.
So I suggest you get down on your bitch ass knees and apologize. Not to me, but to the man in my avatar and to any young kids who may have read your post and gotten a little dumber for it.
You almost have something with Metallica, but they killed themselves over the past ten years. Black Sabbath is the most over rated metal band ever. Pantera is not a top three metal band.
They are easily top three metal bands ever.
1. Metallica
2. Black Sabbath
3. Pantera
nope. now go seed some fights you leech.

Okay, I'll admit it. He actually does look a lot better in those pics then he did at 217. He really bulked up.
With that said, it's not gonna help him against Ruiz. He may be stronger in the clinches but his stamina is going to suffer. The guy is a natural middleweight carrying around 70 extra pounds. Even though a lot of that is muscle, it's going to be weighing him down towards the end of the fight.

LOL at you man. Megadeth? The drunken spawn of a crappy band of whiners. Compared to the Pistols, Megadeth is a footnote in music history.
Bullshit, Megadeth is going to go down as the greatest thrash band ever. Yes, better than Kreator. They are easily top three metal bands ever.
Dave Mustaine can fondle my package, Eddie can "twiddle my balls", and Megadeth sucks Johnny R's dick homeboy. Face it. That 80's cockrock sucks balls. That is ridiculous. Insulting the Sex Pistols........with a Megadeth avatar. LOL.
Insulting? Their music does the insulting for me. I just point out what should be obvious.

I think Jones busted his nose in that fight. He got hit with a good right in the early rounds.
Toney doesn't fight like Roy, though, so it might be a better thing for Ruiz. I hope Toney wins, though, even though I can't stand him.

Are you serious, Toney is planning on weighing in at 227? He looked fat at 217 versus Holyfield and now he's gonna come in 10 lbs. heavier?
At least his fans don't have to worry about him ever pulling a Riddick and losing weight too quickly. If he ever ballooned up to 290 lbs, he'd just say "fuck it" and step into the ring like that.
You don't know what you're talking about. Toney looked very solid and strong at 227:

I never said that I like Ruiz. I hate the guy, he sucks. I don't like Toney either, hes a phoney. When it comes to picking who will win, I will go with Ruiz, because I think he can win, not because I enjoy his fights.
how the heck is toney a phoney.
he's won 8 world titles.
look at his record, he's a future hall of famer
I am not going to count Ruiz out in this one, but I think Toney has the ability to defeat Ruiz's hit'n'hug style. Toney is a good inside fighter and I think he should be able to keep Ruiz off him barely enough to land some big inside shots to the body and upercuts to the head.
