Toney on Upcoming fight with Ruiz:
"When Holyfield fought me, he tried to knock me out, but I took his best shot and laughed at him," said Toney. "Ask Holyfield if these weren't my exact words: After he threw his barrage I said, `Hey, bitch, are you done? Laughing Laughing My turn.' What's Ruiz going to do when he hits me with his best shot and I'm still there? I don't get started till I get hit."
Vitali
Toney proclaimed the heavyweight division "garbage," adding: "But it's not my fault. I'm here to clean it up. I wanted (Vitali) Klitschko for this fight, but he opted for the easier guy in Hasim Rahman. Then he got injured and the opportunity came for me to fight Ruiz. It was earlier rather than later, so I took early."
Roy Jones Jr.
"I told you what was going to happen to him," Toney said of Jones last week in New York. "I've always said that if somebody had the (guts) to step into him and knock his ass out you'd see the real Roy Jones - and he folded up like an accordion. He was a phantom fighter who made a living off of fighting ambulance people, police officers, nurses, schoolteachers, postal workers.
"Well, some postal workers are pretty tough." Laughing
Did Jones' departure from the world stage leave an unfulfilled void with Toney? "No," he replied. "I'm straight. He's the one who got knocked out. He's the one who gets laughed at everywhere he goes.'"
JT is just stupid, so you can almost pass his shit-talking off. If he fights Vitali, he's gonna get murdered. Vitali is too big, and too strong for his lard-ass to beat.
As for his trash-talking, the difference between him and Ali (from what I've seen) is that Ali said shit about the guy he was going to fight, not someone who beat the shit out of him several years ago.
He'll beat Ruiz, but he won't ever take down the HW division.
After he threw his barrage I said, `Hey, bitch, are you done?
LOLLLLL man i love toney
some of you people need to get over this stuff. theyre battling in that ring. like toney said, you dont play boxing. theres are two men trying to tear each others heads off in there not everyone can be a gentleman .
Anyone who wants Ruiz to win this fight just because of Toney's mouth needs their head examined.
I'd rather listen to Toney babble than be subjected to a John Ruiz fight.
He's been in some of the worst heavyweights fights in recent history, I'd rather watch paint dry than a Ruiz fight.
Here's hoping Toney KTFO's Ruiz and retires him.
Well said Stickman. I'm with you there. I'm hoping for a final round double knockdown of sorts, a la Rocky II. Except in my version, no one beats the count.
u got it wrong trash talk is fun as hell but u can go to far with it, Ali talk is what people like not toney
What people are you talking about, exactly? When I was a kid and Ali was giving interviews to Howard Cosell on Wide World of Sports, I can't remember anybody who liked to hear him trash-talk. Everybody hated it, and hated Ali because of it. He was considered a bad sportsman, and a disgrace to the sport, and wasn't actually popular in most US households until after he'd retired, and some of the bullshit had been forgotten. He was always popular among most minorities, but those were different times, and many (if not most) people "liked" their own race in the ring, regardless of talent or skill.
I despise Toney for no reason other than his fucking mouth. He's an excellant fighter, very skilled and talented, but his mouth just makes me hate the guy. He has no respect for fans or other fighters. I'm patiently waiting until the prick is forced into retirement because of injury, or he's beaten stupid in the ring, or (hopefully) both at the same time.
And the only reason I'm not hoping Ruiz wins is because his style makes me despise him about as much as Toney's mouth does him. This fight is cool, in that one of the only two boxers I despise is going to get beat up. The only way I could be happier about this match, is if both fighters beat the stuffings out of each other so badly they were both forced into retirement after the match, and the title went up for grabs.
It isn't too difficult to hug a guy and feel sorry for him after you've pounded the shit out of him. For most people, it comes naturally because of the guilt they feel.
I'd like to see Toney to be the one to walk up to an opponent after losing and say "good fight man" and give him a hug. Like Quarry did to Ali after getting beaten. If that were to happen, my respect for Toney would jump tremendously. It takes a lot more strength to congratulate the guy who beat the shit out of you then it does to do the same to an old man you've just crushed and who would have probably destroyed you if he were in his prime.
Jack,
Trash talk is one thing but some fighters take it too far. Mayorga making references to one opponent's dead mother (or it could have been grandmoher) and Toney calling an old Holyfield a bitch as he picks him apart aren't entertaining. There are better ways to build a fight and keep your dignity intact. Hell the bitch remark happened during the fight and was brought up well after it. Tell me what Toney had to gain by embarassing and humiliating an old Holyfield in an interview?
I am all for hearing a fighter talk about how he is going to crush his opponent, kill them in the ring, knock their head off, whatever, as long as the opponent has done something to warrant this. As much as I hate Mayweather, he does feel that Gatti has been disrespecting him so I can almost see where he's coming from. Almost.
But what did Holyfield ever say to Toney, what did Roy Jones do to Toney (besides kick his fucking ass) to deserve that kind of disrespect?
Toney is just a disrespectful punk. I don't know if he'll ever change either. It'd be one thing if he was a young guy like Zab Judah but by his age he should know better.
Well the majority doesn't. A fight what makes it seem like the two fighters have bad blood, especially if they haven't already established a big fan base, sells the most tickets. The thing about it is that alot of people, I'm not saying you, take the trash talking way more personal than the fighter who is being ragged on just because that's their favorite fighter. Some people just need to understand that alot of trash-talk isn't personal, I'd say about 95% of the trash fighters talk leading up to the fight isn't personal. It's just to manipulate the fans. I guarantee you're going to see a guy like Floyd Mayweather Jr. hug Arturo Gatti after he destroys him and say good fight, and so on. Kostya Tszyu said it best when he said, "This is a business, nothing personal."
exactly man...perfect, u smart man...if every fighter was humble like Glenn johnson, then boxing would be BORING!! The sport would die, and it would become boring to the general public, boxing is like a soap opera, except it's for real...Theres the cocky ass people, there's the evil people, and then theres the humble people, and when people trash talk, it sells more....I really wanna see Ruiz-Toney and Gatti-PBF, cuz there's lot of trashtalkin makin the fights big
Even though Ruiz is fighting i still wanna see what happens very bad
I'd like if every fighter became humble like Glen Johnson.

Modern day fans who hate when fighters talk trash will appreciate it once the fighter retires or when every fighter becomes humble like Glen Johnson.

Well, they both have something to prove. The way I see it, they both wanna do something big in a division where something big NEEDS to happen. I'm rooting for Toney, but if Ruiz wins and gets a shot at one of the other champs or Vitali, I'll still be satisfied.
Huge different Jack. Ali did it with a sense of fun. He had charisma and a youthful presence about him. He was like a 6'3" 220 lb child. It didn't hurt that he was handsome and in good shape.
Toney on the other hand is fat, short, inarticulate, and old. He doesn't look like he could back up the things he says. We know he can (well to a degree) because of his skills, but he does not have Ali's physicality so it comes off as absurd. The guy is 5'9" and 220 lbs of lard. Even when he weighed in at cruiser he looked soft. Roy Jones talked shit but at least he looked the part. When a guy appears to have as much pride in himself as Toney but looks like shit, it appears that there is something wrong with him. Does Toney look in the mirror and see a young adonis?
By the way he talks, you'd think so. In every interview he goes on and on about how he's going to knock out all of the contenders but the truth is he's a blown up middleweight, and even as a middleweight he was never a huge puncher. In reality he's more Tommy Loughran than Mike Tyson. He's a heavyweight imposter, yet he tries to sell himself as the real thing. Knock out Vitali? He'll be in for the fight of his life just getting by Ruiz.
I got tickets for the fight. Anyone know the undercards for the Ruiz-Toney fight? My predection remains. Ruiz by UD. Only way that Toney can win is by KO. It is don king productions, so I expect 3 latino judges and a latino referee, haha. I don't think Toney will knockout Ruiz since he had problems with Jirov.
