I was watching Holyfield vs. Moorer II and I heard one of the broadcasters say Holyfield was thinking about retiring. That was in 1997, So how could he still be fighting in 2005!? He had such a great career, he should have retired after his first fight with Ruiz in 2000. He won that fight and a championship he could have went out on a happy ending. But he never wants to stop, I thought he would have beaten Larry Donald but he even lost to him. Its just getting worse and worse he is shot and he continues to tranish his legacy. Now he wants to fight in Germany, someone needs to stop Holyfield before he hurts himself. He is a great person, fighter and champion that should retire and live happy with the riches and glory he rightfulley earned in the ring.
EVANDER PLEASE RETIRE!!!
You gotta be kidding me...lol... why would a guy who lost 6 of his last 8 fights continue to fight? It's about the money. That is his underlying reason for continuing to fight.
becuase he still beleive he can be the champ again(never quit), because he enjoy to be a champ and be "up there" again. or he had nothing to do outside the ring he got bored. or like stickman said
"because he's taken way too many hard shots upstairs. Sad to say, but it's plain fact. He should've retired 5 years ago, but he just doesn't have enough brains left in his head to know it"
but no way he fight for money, got atleast 100$mil from his careerer with that money he dont need to worry about money anymore(except tyson) ;)
I love Evander Holyfield.
Simply put: My second favorite fighter of all time, next to Johnny Tapia. Hands down. Muhammed Ali a close 3rd. I will never in my life forget those three: and will tell my kids all about them.
He's my #1 favorite, always will be. But I think the biggest reason he doesn't think it's time to retire is because he's taken way too many hard shots upstairs. Sad to say, but it's plain fact. He should've retired 5 years ago, but he just doesn't have enough brains left in his head to know it.

wow 10 kids, different women/wives?
I think he should have 1 more tune up bout then 1 more meaningful fight, after that the boxing organisations should step in and stop the guy. He's gonna hurt himself.
Yes, 10 kids by 8 women...some even live in his home. He takes pimpin to a another level...lol
he got enough money. its his heart, nevet quit.

Holyfield is like so many that came before him. They reach the pinnacle of their sport and after that there is no way to go but down. For many fighters it is the only thing that they know, the only thing that they have worked for since being possibly 8 or 9 years old. For alot the money is an issue when continuing to fight, but I believe that Holyfield had good people surrounding him through most of his career, and the money is not the issue. What could be the issue is that being in the spot light and having the adrenaline pour through your viens can both become quite addicting. For a true fighter, standing on the side lines accepting congratulations on things that you did 10 years ago just does not cut it. Watching old fight films of your battles you again feel the adrenaline begin to seep into your blood stream and then the thought process begins again, How can I get back in shape because I know that I can take these guys. One thing with fighters is that they never seem to notice that they have gotten older, slower and well lathargic. They will end up in the gym again looking for that spark of youth to jolt them back to where they once were, as if it were a fight against time. But time is something that the best fighters will lose to yet something that they will almost never seem to give up fighting. Holyfield is no different, he is a true fighter.............. Rockin':boxing:
Yes sir, JCC suffers from the same syndrome

Say what you will, and it's obvious Evander has little to nothing left, but I'd be very intrigued by a Holyfield-Wlad fight in Germany in July or August (after Wlad disposes of Castillo or Nolan)...all it would take is a solid punch from Holyfield to get Wlad wobbly; but then again Wlad should be able to easily jab his way to victory.
Other than that matchup, nothing really interests me with Evander. Well, maybe something like Holyfield-Peter...nah, just kidding.
He won't retire because he needs the money. Child support for 10 children can be very expensive.

Evander Holyfield is like Muhammad Ali in that he has the heart of a champion. One Holyfield's biggest virtues is that he fights only top contenders and won't fight any unknowns.(I know what you guys are thinkin but Ruiz was a top ranked contender when he fought Holyfield) :) This is also his biggest flaw because the bouts are obviously harder. He should take the George Foreman route if he doesn't want to retire and knock out some bums!
Yeah the right hook to the body and the uppercut will work great against Ruiz. I can't wait...THE CHAMP IS HERE!!! :D
hopefully he gets a showdown with Byrd, later too, hopefully for the IBF belt - James needs that one to complete his collection. i just want to them in the ring together because JT will shut Byrdy's mouth
me too, i just hope james doesn't tear anything, and he hits louise with the right hook to the body and then right uppercut when the manlover tries to clinch. if toney has a good night he'll take ruiz out the way he busted up holyfield

first of all dude, THAT'S A FUCKING SWEET AVATAR!!! evander won't retire for one of two reasons that i can see:
1. it's hard to leave boxing when u're a fighter, it gets in your blood, you gotta be around it
2. evander refuses to believe he's washed up, he thinks he still be champ again
but then, we don't really know what vander thinks cause like jack says, no one can understand him anymore
