If Messi is allowed to fight again I think that he will fight three fights tops, and then retire. I think that he is looking for one big payday and then he will retire. He has been planing to take on Tyson for a while now, and this can only mean 2 things.
1) He will use Tyson as a stepping stone to show that he is a good fighter. It may not prove that he is great, but it will make his resume look a little better and give him some more ring experience. He will then work his way up to a title shot.
2) He will fight Tyson for a pretty big payday and then take the cash and run.
I dont think that any fighter that is bleeding from thier brain will continue as a fighter for a long period of time... it is not possible. I think he will go with option #2 and fight Tyson or some other semi big name in order to get a big payday so he can take the cash and run.
What do you think??
Sorry Joe, that's just not the case. He's easily the best prospect out there, but he's still very raw. He's got a great work rate, loads of power and an excellant bag of offensive tools, but he's lacking in defensive ability, countering speed/accuracy, and he still has some bad habits (not much head movement, hangs around after throwing, etc.)
He has potential out of this world, but I wouldn't pick him over any of the first tier guys right now except maybe Ruiz and Toney, and even then I think Toney would stand a good chance of winning a decision, and Ruiz would stand about an even chance of catching Baby Joe with a big punch on one of his "bum-rush'n'clinch" passes.
Did you honestly not detect any sarasm in that post???
I would like to see Mesi fight anybody, fight Jirov again, fight James Toney, fight Byrd, fight Golota, fight Tyson, fight somebody with a big name, preferably Toney or Golota. Mesi vs Toney or Golota is Pay per view material.
I dont know about Mesi though in his last two fight he has been knocked down 4 times, 3 by Jirov and once by Barret. he beat Jirov on every judges card by 1 point, and won only a majority descison against Barret. But Mesi is a very exciting fighter. I hope he comes back soon, and that brain injury is not as bad as the press makes it sound. Mesi vs. Toney would be awesome as hell. Or Mesi Jirov II.
Joe Mesi is easily the best heavyweight out there. As soon as he comes back he will destroy everyone in the division and unify the belts. After that he will repopularize boxing and defend the title untill his 49th fight. At that point he will retire, out of respect for the record of the great Rocky Marciano, because he is a gentleman like that.

If Mesi does fight again I think he'll get a shot straight at whoever wins from Klitschko - Rahman. He was no.1 WBC ranked before he his license suspended, and Mesi's team will want to capitalise on him being able to fight straight away given that they might be less than sure how many fights he's got in him. Mesi brings some money to the table as well so I think whoever is WBC champ will want to fight him. Tyson is the obvious other one but beating him does nothing for Mesi and losing would be crippling
who ever he would fight, who would fight him? Tyson (who would demolish him) wouldn't want that kind of publicity (i.e. tyson kills. . .) I don't know why anybody else would either.
I hope Mesi comes back and is able to fight like he did before he got suspended. I love this guy. Still, he has not proven to be a great fighter yet, and I would not feel comfortable with him facing a heavy hitter in a comeback fight. But give the man a few easy matches and then we will see.
I actually believe that Mesi could take out Tyson. Not because Mesi is so incredible, but because Tyson is so far beyond his prime it´s sad. Tyson has nothing left and if Mesi didn´t get hit with a bomb early on, he might very well take out Tyson later in the fight. Look at the Williams fight for crying out loud!
They would all kill him too. Try someone like Ty Fields or Brian Nielsen for Mesi. Fres or Byrd would definitely beat Mesi. I'd pick Fres to knock him out.
If thats what your opinions are, so better let Messi retire for good. This is the best thing to do.BUT WAIT ! lets not dictate JOE MESSI , ITS UP TO HIS DOCTOR.
Mesi has been out of the picture for so long now, he'd have to take the easiest legit fight possible...
After that, while considering any heavy has the power to make it dangerous, considering his condition, but someone like Danny Williams might be a good choice...but no chance he fights Tua or Tyson or Wlad. I, however, would pay to see Mesi-Tyson or Mesi-Wlad.
But even HBO would know that Mesi needs 2 wins before they cash out on him with PPV vs. a fighter of that power/caliber...
Fres and Bryd could definitly beat mesi. I said kill. People like Tyson and Tua, could literally end his life.
Yeah, the prospect of Mesi getting in the ring with Tua or Tyson or Peter or the like is scary. I mean, both Barrett and the blown up cruiserweight that is Jirov will able to hurt and drop him- imagine the damage could be done against one of these huge punchers! The hope is that Mesi knows what is in his best interests and if his career does continue he avoids those type of guys... When I met him last year at the IBHOF I asked him who he wanted to fight next (this was shortly after the Jirov fight) and the only name he was interested in was Tyson. The same could be said for his father and the rest of his crew. So it is tough to predict whether or not he will rush his way back, I feel that he has not really looked all that great since he fought Williamson in the trusty old HSBC center, but that is just me....
that's what he should do, but i think he'll probably do what most fighters do and keep going long past the point at which he should have retired...
if he fights tyson and survives my respect for Mesi will go up x 10...
