I was just wondering. With so many alphabet boxing organizations with their own set of champions holding practically useless alphabet titles and belts, would a Royal Rumble style tournament be possible in boxing to unify once and for all the championship in each division, so that we'll have one single champion for each?
I mean, set up a purse of say $5million and the champion of each organization in a division will step into the ring and rumble it out in 15 rounds, and whoever's the last man standing will take the purse and title winner-take-all.
Let's start with Byrd, Ruiz, Vitaly and Brewster. What do you guys think?
hahaha that shit was funny, and in the final it would be Chris Byrd vs John Ruiz and Don King would distract the referee and then when his back is turned Jameel Mcline would come in and the crowd would start booing and then John Ruiz looks toward the crowd as if to say What? BEHIND YOU! he puts his glove to his ear as if to say i cant hear you then he turns around and Mcline hits him and leaves the ring and Don King jumps of the apron and the referee turns back around and starts the count and Byrd ends up winnin.
Ha-ha-ha! You've got some really wild imagination, bro!! :D

By Royal Rumble, you mean they have to lift the other member up and over the ropes to eliminate them?

Those four HW champs fighting free-for-all inside one ring should be a sight to behold!!
I also would like to see Cotto, Gatti, Tszu, Judah and Harris mix it up all at the same time in one ring!!! :p

Or do you just mean an elimination tournament?
They're both about as likely as the other to happen...
Of course you don't have to lift and throw your opponent out of the ring. You don't do that in boxing. It'll be like a mad mix up inside the ring and anybody who gets KOd or TKOd gets is eliminated. No, I'm not referrring to an elimination tournament. This could take forever which we waqnt to avoid in the first place.
Yes, I agree that this would unlikely be realized in the near future. But it really doesn't make any sense having as many "champions" in a single division as the number of boxing organizations that have sprouted lately a-dime-a-dozen like wild mushrooms. :boxing:
For one:
You would need to assess the "location" of the Royal Rumble event. Fighters respective to their home countries might dissaprove of the actual site. Promotion for the fights may be a problem as well, you would have to cross certain cultural and societal standards that would make it difficult to market.
Secondly:
This would force the existing title holders to strip themselves of the belts they have earned. "From my cold dead hand" they would say...IMO. They would have to abandon their title in order to participate in a contest of such.
If the "price is right", the location should not be a problem, specially if it's in Vegas or similar areas.
The belts would be the least of their concern. Actually, the purpose of the tournament is precisely to do away with these alphabet belts and to fight for the recognition of being the "best of the best", the "champion of champions" in the division. :boxing:
