I was not prepared mentally – Pacquiao
By nick giongco
“NEXT TIME, it’s going to be different.” These were the words that came out of Manny Pacquiao’s mouth as he vowed not to commit the same mistakes when he rumbles again with Erik Morales late this year in an expected grudge rematch.
Pacquiao humbly admitted he learned a lesson or two from that mega fight so there’s no reason why he would not emerge victorious the next time they slug it out.
"I believe I was not prepared mentally," Pacquiao told the Bulletin while resting at his room at the Mandarin Oriental in Makati. He is expected to be back in the ring in July against an opponent yet to be named in preparation for a return meeting with Morales late this year.
Pacquiao arrived yesterday morning on board a Philippine Airlines jet that took almost 18 hours to reach Manila from Los Angeles. The plane had to make a one-hour refueling stop in Honolulu before heading to the Philippines.
"Hindi naman ako kinapos. Hindi ko lang alam kung bakit hindi ko magawa yung mga ginawa ko sa ensayo dahil nakita mo naman ang mga ikinilos ko sa Wild Card ‘di ba?" asked Pacquiao, who was joined in the trip back home by wife Jinkee and Filipino cornermen Lito Mondejar and Buboy Fernandez.
Pacquiao, 26, who dropped a close but unanimous decision to Morales at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas one week ago, suggested that there had been too many distractions while he was training.
The Bulletin was witness to the things that Pacquiao said could have affected his condition in the fight.
On the eve of his departure for Las Vegas, his cell phone rang at 12 midnight and the fighter was awakened from his sleep, prompting him to throw the phone into the direction of one of his acquaintances in Los Angeles.
There was also an instance when Pacquiao had to get involved in the purchase of an airline ticket for an official of the Games and Amusements Board at a time when he should have already been in bed.
There were also several instances when his young friends – Filipinos living in Los Angeles – came and went out of his two-bedroom unit in Hollywood as though it was a bachelor’s pad.
Pacquiao was even involved in the distribution of fight tickets and jackets and shirts to a retinue of hangers-on and fans and relatives of those who suddenly became boxing fans.
And in one incident, some supporters of Pacquiao turned the receiving area of his suite at the MGM Grand into a mini casino with at least five persons playing card games.
"Aayusin kong lahat kung saan tayo nagkulang at nagkamali para sa susunod handang-handa," said Pacquiao.
Despite the negative things that happened days leading to the big fight, Pacquiao still praised Morales for coming into the fight armed to the teeth.
"Morales prepared hard, but when we meet again, it’s going to be different," said Pacquiao, who will meet with President Gloria Arroyo at Malacañang on Tuesday.
im sorry but you shouldn't have dropped the names of some of the pinoys here, my statement doesn't represent any one of them. but i should let you carry on whatever you like to say on this site, it surely make an irk out on me so that's why i made those comment. my apologies... (hey im not trying to sound nice, i just thought i should make something out to avoid conflicts here)
"Drop pinoy names"?? Not sure what youre getting at, cause theyre my buddies, and my point was that they remained my buds even though I'm very open with my opinion of Pac, etc. Didnt do it to start shit, or whatever, did it to make a point.
he could have been bothered concerning some issues. but bottom line was morales was the true winner of that fight, and from what i saw, i think he wasn't even giving his all in that fight. if pac really wants to win, and i mean win big against el terrible, refrain from all those money talks and distractions. you've got the skill and power, focus on boxing, enhance and practice very well. and i believe nxt time, morales would call for his 2nd epic trilogy
Just spoke with a Phillipino woman in our office, who mentioned that Pac has a television show back home that has him interviewing celebs. It looks like the De La Hoya Syndrome might be the ruination of PacMan.
anything like that is just too distracting, especially while in training. Gotta focus, especially when fighting someone of Morales' caliber!

lmao
wtf
he has a show ere interviews celebs?
are they filipino celebs?
are there any filipinp celebs
roach was irritated with all the leeches around them. which made it hard for Pac to listen to him.

pacs best chance is to embrace and perfect his one dimensionalism
This is a good post. Roach's advise to Pac was simple ... "don't back up, move forward". That's Pac's one-dimensional chance, his best chance, at beating the top-tier guys. he might get counter to death, but moving forward and throwing bombs at break-neck speed is his only hope.
Pac got to where he is with speed, power and moving forward (i.e. lunging). He can't expect to suddenly become a boxing tactician like Morales and Marquez.
But in my own opinion, for EM prove that he is the better fighter, go for the rematch and defeat PACMAN again. By then, thats the only time that I will say EM is the better boxer.
Seems you can't accept that the fight was won by the better fighter/boxer. Erik has proven he is a better fighter than Pac, by beating him. Many Pac fans accept this fact, but then there's the Rematch Club that won't give Erik the win in that first fight. Sad.
huh!!! not a boxer? i think his a basketball player :p
boxer doesnt mean he doesnt step inot to the ring
im tlakin about how he fights
some guys are boxers
some are fighters
some are sluggers
i mean there so many ways guys can "fight" in the ring
and pac just cant box
Lay off! Tracy has every right to state her opinion.
Thanks Palma! ;) Alot of the guys off the Pinoy threads are bud's..so maybe thats why it bothers him when I post something like that?? It's harder to 'like me' or whatever when I say something negative about their guy..but Kepsy and Jomapac do it just fine..theyre used to my views on this subject, and dont hold it against me. ;) (In no way implying that this guy is a bud..I'm not too familiar with his name, and for all I know he may hate my guts! :D )
would you stop making a comment like this? if you can't stand it, then just don't read!
why should I stop? Why does it bother you anyway...cause it's true, or what? Since I've never been one to take orders from others, and I often am guilty of posting whatever the hell I please, the better solution might be to stop reading my posts if they upset you so..dont you think?
pacs best chance is to embrace and perfect his one dimensionalism
hes not going to do good as a boxer
hes just not a boxer
maybe he can still get lucky with his one dimensional style
i think he has better shot with that
then tryin to turn into somethin hes not
huh!!! not a boxer? i think his a basketball player :p
When MAB was beaten by EM on their first encounter, who thought that MAB will still emerged as the winner (2 wins against Em to be exact).
Now EM defeated PACMAN, with out excuses I greatly accept the defeat as a PACMAN fan.
But in my own opinion, for EM prove that he is the better fighter, go for the rematch and defeat PACMAN again. By then, thats the only time that I will say EM is the better boxer.

Let's assume that all the "excuses" could be taken out of the equation. Even with this "improved" situation, Pac remains less skilled than Morales and won't suddenly be able to execute the perfect overhand lead right, or connect on a big left uppercut. It just won't happen.
Also, let's not look at this as a one-sided story. There's a damned good chance that Morales shows-up for the rematch in the best shape of his life, then what? We'd have an "excuse-less" Pacman be outboxed again.
I will also say that Morales' foot work was often overlooked by analysts. Morales footwork and balance is so good he is usually in position to throw punches and he was in position most of the time against Pacquiao.
It wasnt Pacquiao's gloves, mentallity, headbutts or anything. Morales was just the better fighter that night.
I said long ago that where Marquez stopped chasing Pacquiao, Morales would continue, and would chase him back to the locker room if he had to. And thats exactly what happened.
Morales planted his feet, avoided pacquiaos biggest shots, pacquiao backed up to set up again, but unlike barrera and Marquez, Morales went after him till he caught up with him. Racked up the points, and made pacquiao think too much. Morales twice feinted him in obvious fashion with the right and slapped him with the left. Kept pac thinking and on his heels.
Pacquiao simply cant fight going backward thats all and under heavy fire thats what he does.
