As a boxing fan what do you think we should look for in Fernando Vargas's return fight tonight to determine whether he can once again be a successful fighter? I think it all depends on how fast he looks and how patient he is boxing.
Tracy you are correct, Vargas claims his back hasnt acted up in a while and seems ok but that doesnt mean it wont again. But Vargas training for this fight has been successful so we can hope for the best I guess, but it is still a major concern.
THanks Spinks! :)
FYI get TiVo! it's a miracle-worker for big fights, especially if you have a crowded house and somebody misses the KD or KO....
I agree that Vargas will prevail
Sure Vargas must own. Excuse me, what does FYI stand for? For your info?
I expect a quick Ko by Vargas because my boxing tape does not have much left and I can only record it if it lasts only a few rounds. Ha.
No but seriously, I expect a decent performance from Vargas that puts him back in the picture because the guy is a very good and underrated fighter with lots of courage. He should win by TKO.

If he did go ahead with the surgery that would almost seal the deal on being at the end of his career really. I mean he is young through a chronological age and all, but he has been abused in more ways than one and it is obviously taking its toll.
But I mean the man is set for life financially and if he continues to ignore it, it will come back to haunt him and his back could even flame up during the fight tonight who knows.
But he will always have doubts until it is surgically repaired.
he was suppose to get surgery but he never did he probably bitched up and dident do it i recommend he does so he can be 100% i think a 100% vargas can own it up. no excuses.

I agree from what I read he sounds unsure about the back problem.
Nobody else has said anything about his back, so I'm assuming that I was wrong, that he recovered fully and the back wont be an issue!

Shiiiiit, Joval aint' gonna run from him AND he ain't likely to be knocked out either. Vargas may give out himself! He looked mediocre the last time I saw him fight.
although I am picking Vargas to win this fight. You are totally correct man. I do not see Joval taking a step back. He may use lateral movement and try and be "slick". He sure as hell is not going to run like Morad Hakkar did against Hopkins.
I would bet 1 million points on that alone.

Vargas is gonna look strong, but a little slow, since he will be not only fighting Joval Saturday night but ring rust as well.To be honest, this fight might look like Hopkins-Hakkar.If Joval wants to avoid being Kayoed for the 1st time in his career,he's gonna have to run every single round against Vargas, much like Hakkar did against Hopkins.Either way,I think Vargas will look decent, but against a questionable mediocre opponent.Shiiiiit, Joval aint' gonna run from him AND he ain't likely to be knocked out either. Im not expecting much, I know I am really hard on Vargas a lot. But I feel he is damaged goods and physically the odds will be against him as well as mentally. The fight will go the distance in favor of Vargas, but wouldnt be surprised to see Joval get the shaft on the decision either.
Also this comeback will be more mediocre than his last comeback against vanderpool
I'm on the same page as you spinks..I mean, isnt his back still supposed to be a problem? I keep hearing that he's not yet 100%, and if thats true, I cant imagine why he'd come back now. If the issue is his back, isnt a lasting and devestating back injury a good possibility??

I'm thinking he may come out looking for a quick knockout, just to show everyone that he is backHe'd be a fool in that case. As has already been stated, Joval has NEVER been KO'ed and I seriously doubt a blown up Jr Middle will do it now. Shit, Vargas is more likely to get KO'ed than Joval in my opinion.
He might be damaged goods, only time will tell but I think it will interesting to see how he boxes tonight.
Ohh I am very interested to see him back in action, in fact I hope he does well it would be nice to have him back in the mix. Especially since it will add another top name to the list of current boxers. But I wont get caught up in the hype.
