It is more about them actually fighting each other...
Erik "El Terrible" Morales
Manny "The Destroyer" Pacquiao
"Dinamita" Juan Manuel Marquez
"The Baby Faced Assassin" Marco Antonio Barrera
out of these 4 semi great-great fighters we have already seen
Pacquaio vs Barrera
Morales vs Barrera x3
Marquez vs Pacquaio
Pacquaio vs Morales
the great thing is that belts have not been the BIGGEST factor...
each in its own was a memorable fight...Pacman stopping and upsetting Barrera, Morales and Barrera splitting two close fights that could have gone the other way only for Barrera to gain redemption from his Pacman loss and beat El Terrible in the third encounter, Marquez going down 3 times in the first only to come back to win enough of the rounds through counter punching in a back and forth contest to a draw, Manny's kill all Mexicans campaign, then the war between Morales and Pacman with the drama of Morales beating the man who destroyed his nemisis whom he lost to in his last fight...
every man on that list of 4 is capable of beating each other on any given night. That is how deep their skills and abilities go in relation to each other...the speedy power punching machine with limited abilities...the cool and calm counter puncher...the tall rangy boxer...the cool paced boxer...if only the Prince stayed around long enough to be added to that list...regardless of most likely losing to Morales as well...he would have had a chance vs Marquez and Pacman in my opinion...and would have gained more respect in defeat if the fights would have happened...
all with great chins, great conditioning, great desire to just fight and not bitch over being 200,000 short in a 5mil purse (ok I think there was a Marquez/Pacman money dispute for a rematch), or what title belts will be on the line...these fighters get more respect in quality/competative losses than to hold onto hundreds of belts vs low opposition...
126lbs, 130lbs, 135lbs, 140lbs, 147lbs....daymn...
Morales=Hearns
M.A.B.=Hagler
JMM=Leonard
Pacquiao=Duran
a great post from you too dude! :)
thanks for the comparison, but what lacks from the fab four right now is that JMM still has to prove his worth by fighting the other two.
the fab four of the 80's were willing to kill each other in the ring... and this killer's instinct is what we all saw with manny, erik, and barrera. i am yet to seet JMM post a threat to barrera and morales
I thought it was a draw.. But Pac has the Barrera fight under his resume. JMM just did not have the chance to fight any of them on the top until Pac came. But he's got enough to challenge and beat all of them, it was just the chance.
"way above" was my word of affirmation from the post of TyrantT316. He said "nowhere near." that was my choice of words. If JMM got the chance, I think he may be up there with the legends EM and MAB, or maybe even surpass them, nobody knows. He just needs the fights people need for recognition.
no way it was a draw pac won 3 rounds if anything.
How can you rank him above JMM, when he is the featherweight champion and has the majority of the belts. Do you think Pacman beat JMM? because I do not. "Way above" is going too far and does not give credit where it is due.

, so let's rank him way above JMM and a notch above Pac,

why is it ALWAYS that the measure of greatness of a fighter is to keep moving up and up and up and up...
I love Pacman and Morales...heck all of them...but Morales is just the better fighter overall than Pacman
Ok, you got a good point. He is currently a better fighter overall, so let's rank him way above JMM and a notch above Pac, currently but that can change. Now where do you put MAB? Now how can EM make it to the #1 P4P list of most people? He obviously isn't there yet but I'm confident he can make it, but not by fighting PAC and MAB over and over again. Remember, he is 1-1 in his last two fights.
EM obviously have a hard time making 130, so moving up again is not far from happening. Now that's where the real action begins. That's where he will cement his legend. And it's not far from happening. And when he does, he will be up there all-time.
We definitely need to see JMM against one of the other two mexicans though...
Exactly.
Though I'm eagerly awaiting MAB-EM IV, I would love to see JMM take on either of the two fighters. I rank JMM last out of the "big four" until he proves he is truly an elite fighter.
the fab four
Do you think Freddie Norwood would be a 5th member of the fab group if he were fighting today? Because I would have liked to see him in big fights with the others. He remains somewhat a mystery at featherweight.
Not to mention: his nickname was "lil Hagler" Lmao.

How? In his last two fights he got 1 loss against MAB and beat an overblown former flyweight, super-flyweight, featherweight champ last Saturday. Pac moved up and fought a P4P fighter in EM, I'd like to see him to the same thing and use his boxing skills against Castillo, Corrales or PBF where his reach and power would not be at an advantage.
But I would have to agree about JMM though.
why is it ALWAYS that the measure of greatness of a fighter is to keep moving up and up and up and up...Morales has already moved up...lost to MAB and the loss has a very emotional effect on him than anything else...instead of making a comeback tour vs the bottom top 20...he takes on an always dangerous Pacman...was Pacman the blown up flyweight when he fought MAB and JMM? it is not fair to use that excuse when he has already proven himself and his power at 126 showing he can carry his power up...he just fought a better fighter with a great chin...I love Pacman and Morales...heck all of them...but Morales is just the better fighter overall than Pacman
i said it before, the featherweight/superfeatherweight division is the best, for almost four years now, this division ruled over the boxing world.
in the 80's we had the fab four: leonard, duran, hearns, hagler
the fab four we have right now all belong to this division:
barrera
pacquiao
marquez
morales
all have their own strengths to boast, and all are willing to kill each other. now that's bringing fight fans to heaven!
Great post. And I may add there is no reason for anyone to get tired of the 130lb division. IMHO there is better talent in this division as opposed to any other in boxing. Those four, like you mentioned will eventually be remembered in classic boxing reels and on ESPNC. One thing is for sure though:
we need to have a Barrera/JMM fight, and a Morales/JMM fight to make the circle complete. When that is said and done....
We can see who reigns supreme over this group of warriors.
As it stands right now, it is far too difficult to rank them in any order, or place tags on them. If I were to compare these 4 to the 4 you mentioned,
Morales=Hearns
M.A.B.=Hagler
JMM=Leonard
Pacquiao=Duran

EM is already on another level of greatness...JMM is no where near the greatness of a MAB or EM...no question

I agree with the post above. I would like JMM to be taken more into the scene though. JMM deserves his chance to greatness. So far, he has only fought Pac. Pac has already fought all three with a score of 1-1-1 (Win-loss-draw)
If EM beat JMM, and move up and beat both Corrales and Castillo, then he will be on another level of greatness. But until that happen, they are all pretty equal right now I think.

as much as i like to see PAC going another round against the 3Ms, i would love to see JMM against EM & MAB...
VIVA MEXICO - VIVA MORALES the best p4p, move over hopkins, ERIK IS THE MAN ...
