i really dun like the k1 shit anymore... more american style kickboxing than it is muay thai... and it was muay thai before... and since of my trainers alex gong died... ( he use to compete in the k1 card as a super bout)... i stop watching... and caring about it... muay thai kickboxing should be showed more on television its gettin popular...
The kickboxing world lost a huge name and a great fighter when Alex was murdered. What makes it even more sad is the fact it was over a traffic accident.

I see. The only thing that I've seen of K1 was I think Sapp vs. Hoost, and that's it. So I didn' know much on it. Thanks. Is there anywhere that I would be able to catch some good K1 fights? I'd like to get into it more.

Its not pure muay thai. Muay thai allows elbows to the face, clinching knees, drop elbows to the collarbone catching the leg and plowing your opponent back ect. ect.
All this stuff is illegal in k-1. K-1 is more like western boxing that allows kicks.
I haven't seen much of K-1 or know much about it.....other than kicking, what's so different about it? I mean, like the strategies and stuff that you guys are talkin about. I'd like to be enlightened on that.
At the beginnig, in the 90's K1 was a HW muay thai tournament (punch/kick/knee but elbows not allowed to avoid quick stoppage on cuts). Great fighters were competing and giving tremendous fights ,like ernesto hoost, peter aerts, lebanner, and many others....
Then it got so popular that money spoiled it completely (and competition with MMA tournaments to get the bigger audience) and we started to see washed up boxers like botha or steroid intake world champs like sapp invade it and then it started to be a joke, a circus displaying huge guys with only muscles but no technique, trying to cash in. and there is the result...thinking u can defeat a legitimate muay thai top KO artist just because u used to be a good boxer 10 years ago is just totally stupid and suicidal.
K1 used to be a great tournament of a true sport, now it's only shit.

Boxers think they can fight trained K1 fighters with eas. Boy, they are totally wrong. Not one former boxer has gained success so far, not Botha, Briggs or Mercer. I think Mercer tasted the toughness of K1 and perhaps with his age (39) in mind he will quit with all fight sports.
i think to befair to ray, he's older than 39, i think he's like 44 or something, he's been shot for a while no

I don't know what they're thinking. Didn't Mike Tyson sign some contract to compete in K-1 prior to the Danny Williams fight? Vince Phillips tried the same thing and that didn't work out too hot either. Completely different training, different strategies, different sport.
I think at the time with Tyson...he actually requested that it be boxing rules

A lot of the old boxing guys can't deal with kicks. Hell, they can't even deal with punches by the time they go to K-1. A lot of them think they will get some easy wins but end up getting shocked when the K-1 guys throw shit at them and they have no idea how to defend.
K-1 and boxing are different sports. What makes someone think they can just switch back and forth is beyond me.
