Lacy would accept Hopkins' offer!
By Karl Freitag
With handlers of middleweight contender Jermain Taylor balking at Golden Boy Promotions' $1.5 million offer to face Bernard Hopkins, IBF super middleweight champion Jeff Lacy told Fightnews.com that he would be ready to step in. "We're very excited that he would take that fight," said Lacy. "It's just a YES we're looking for, just a three letter word." Lacy (19-0, 15 KOs), who has made two defenses of his IBF 168lb title, continued "The only thing we can do is present the challenge. It's all about him. He's the man. It's all about him taking it. We definitely would love the challenge." Regarding fighting at a catch weight, Lacy said "If he says we can do it at 160, what's wrong with doing at 164?" Lacy's promoter Gary Shaw told Fightnews that the fight would be easy to make. "We'll fight for 1.5," Shaw said. "We wouldn't need 24 hours , we'd only need 24 minutes."

Gotta love the kid
Hopkins will use lateral movement in combination with his reach. And simply pot-shot Lacy with right hands. He will circle him, tie him up and land short compact shots. Then, he will distance himself once again, throwing the straight right, then loop punches and systematically wear Lacy down. I do not think Lacy would have a chance.
Nard would also exploit his 5' inch height advantage.
Thats my point. Thats what X does to everyone. He wont be able to do that kind of stuff to a guy who is bigger and stronger then him. Do you think he will be able to successfully tie Lacy up without getting hit alot? That stuff he did against a smaller much slower Eastman will not work on a fast super middelweight guy with a light heavey weight punch
. He will attack Hopkins from the opening bell and X will have a problem with him.

You guys keep saying that he will outbox Lacy but thats bull shit. He fights all these guys that are to small or to slow for him. How will he be able to take a big punch from a 168 pounder and a guy who has great speed. He will attack Hopkins from the opening bell and X will have a problem with him. You dont think all that power Lacy has will bother him. Dont tell me about Tito's power because he has no speed and cant cut off the ring. Lacy will hit him much more and get alot of clean shots on him and Lacy has been at 168 his whole career while Tito started at 147 and had only had one fight. Lacy would be much tougher and X knows it, thats why he wont do it because he knows that he can fool all of you
I think Lack will knock him out or atleast win a decision but I think he will KO him. You guys are always talking about other fighters but you never want Hopkins to move up. He called Tito, Oscar, Vargas, and Shane pussy's for not moving up but this guy wont do the same. Move up or shut the fuck up. He's been making me mad lately how he is trying to give everyone deadlines and pick his own matches. Fight Lacy if you want to really be the best.
Your viewpoint about Lacy's style is a product of awesome match-making by Lacy's management.
That is hilarious, and insulting. You are dead wrong if you think I am that shallow; or that "type" of boxing fan.
All I said was: His power and stamina are equalizers in a fight.

What has Taylor done to earn his shot at Hopkins? I'm not one of Lacy biggest supporters but he has done more than what Taylor has done.
As far as the fight I think if Eastman can pressure Hopkins and land some good shots Lacy can do the same and even put up a better fight. He won't win but he will put up a good fight against Hopkins.
Taylor hasnt done anything worth mentioning, but he would be staying at 160.
Their are 2 guys 2 GUYS at middleweight who are deserving of Bernard.
One is Trinidad, everyone deserves a second chance
TWO is Sturm, he smacked around De la hoya for 12 rounds and beat him without question.
THOSE ARE THE GUYS who should be fighting Hopkins right now.
Lacy stands a better chance than Taylor does at beating Hopkins. His tenacious style and punching power would act as an "equalizer" in big fights. I do understand that Lacy was beat by Taylor in the Amateurs, but professional fights are different. Taylor has the tools, but has not shown that he can overcome adversity in the ring. Lacy has been making statements by doing just that.
Regardless of either's resume, neither are ready to fight Hopkins. His ring intelligence is far superior to both fighters. Neither of them are on his level. I would rather like to see Lacy try his hand at dethroning Bernard.
Qualifications at middleweight for Taylor are slim. Beating Joppy should not make you "the man". and so he beat Raul Marquez..big woop. Raul was fighting when Jermaine was hauling ass to the front porch when it got dark.
You're absolutely right about the slim-pickin's in the 160 pound division, it's sad that Sturm and Taylor can't just kick-back and wait for Bernard to retire, because Bernard has no more real challenges so the young guns gotta step-up to the plate earlier than they really should
Hopkins would embarass lacy, point blank
Yes. IMO he would embarass both of them. Lacy the less of the two.

Lacy has no point in staying at 160, he wants it at a catch weight to so I wouldnt even recognize no Jeff Lacy. Lacy should be fighting Calzaghe right now and then move up to 175 god knows he has the body for it.
Taylor is a schmuck if he doesnt take the 1.5 million, boxing is about risks and if you want to be undisputed champion of the world you have to take a RISK!
Zab took the risk and look what he did? How much did he do it for? Ha! Cory got paid less than Taylors offer and Zab got paid less than Cory. Zab ended up only getting paid 100,000 BEFORE fees were taken out and had the best showing of his career.
Bernard is a slut for giving a deadline and Taylor is a bitch for not taking it.
Boxing is a sport first not a god damn business, get the hell in the ring and earn your paydays.

The only guy that Lacy has faced who has two feet under him was Vanderpool, and they only took that fight becuase Vandy has NO punch and it was for the vacant IBF title.
Hopkins would embarass lacy, point blank
I don't think Lacy thinks Hopkins is going to take him up on it. Jeff is just letting people know he's up to fighting the best - unlike that other super middleweight champion.
Lacy would stay on the outside and get smacked with shots by Hopkins all night. While it would be a valiant effort on the side of Lazy he wouldnt be punished.
Taylor is regarded as the man after Hopkins is done, people are already high on him and give him respect. Lacy is good but hasnt earned it yet.

The offer is for Taylor. And if Taylor doesnt accept it... Sturm should be the man. Lacy should not try and enter into the scene. Invitation is not for everybody!

I think Lacy should be worth more than Taylor. Both Lacy and Taylor would get beat by Hopkins right now but at least Lacy would make it somewhat exciting with his aggressive style. With Taylor it would be a chess match that Hopkins would win fairly easy in my opinion. Hopkins doesn't move quite as well anymore and if Lacy can keep alot of pressure on him I would give Lacy a better chance at upsetting Hopkins than Taylor.
Lacy's people are retarded, the 1.5mil offer was to TAYLOR, it was not an open invitation for anybody and everybody to try to pick up.....Lacy is barely worth 1/2 that amount, and at least Taylor has a slim chance of taking Hopkins out, Lacy would get embarassed for 12 straight rounds
