Tyson has taste for kickboxing
By AP
BANGKOK -- As a heavyweight boxer in the United States, Mike Tyson used his fists -- and sometimes his teeth -- to tackle his opponents. Now, the former world champion may learn to fight with his knees, elbows and feet during a training stint in Thailand. A newly formed organization for traditional Thai kickboxing, or muaythai, is considering a request for Tyson to be trained in the martial art in Thailand, said police Gen. Kovid Bhakdiphum, chairman of the World Boxing Council Muaythai.
"Tyson's representatives contacted us and asked what I can do to help Tyson, who is interested in switching from regular boxing to muaythai," he told The Associated Press.
Kovid said he would have to evaluate the behaviour of the fighter, infamous for biting off part of Evander Holyfield's ear during a 1997 bout, before accepting him for training. The 38-year-old fighter has had several public brawls and run-ins with the law.
"If he's not punching people outside the ring or biting the ears of opponents and shows he's well disciplined, we will take him," Kovid said.
Tyson could help promote Thai kickboxing, a hugely popular sport in Thailand, internationally, Kovid said.
I don't know how true this report is. But do you think a switch in career is good for the Iron? Note that one of the condition before he's taken in is his level of discipline. :boxing:
No I swear to god last week I got a call from a telemarketer and it was Tyson. The guy said his name was Bob but I kept asking about it and finally he admited it. I bought a couple extra months of cable out of pity.

As early as 2003, Iron Mike has already filed for bankruptcy in New York. Also in the same year, rap artist 50 Cent bought his 48,000-square-foot mansion in Farmington, Connecticut for $4.1 million.
In an interview with This Is London a few months ago, Tyson announced that since declaring bankruptcy he has been sleeping in homeless shelters and living off handouts. "I've got nowhere to live. I've been crashing with friends, literally sleeping in shelters. Unsavoury characters are giving me money and I'm taking it. I need it. The drug dealers, they sympathise with me. They see me as some sort of pathetic character... I know I was a tough, bad-ass talking fighter, but I ain't no mob figure. I did my time for the rape. I paid my money to Las Vegas. I paid my dues. I ain't the same person I was when I bit that guy's ear off."
He's so desperate he'd try his luck at anything, maybe even spar with kangaroos in Australia.
I feel for the guy i really do. It's sad to hear that.
Tyson seems very unsure onwhat he wants to do in life. How's he earning a living now, anybody know?

...I say he gets his ass kicked if he tries it. I don't know about muythai but I wouldn't mind seeing him try a little Hari Kari.
Hara-kiri??!! With all his financial and legal woes and sagging career, he's better off committing it! :D Seriously, with proper intensive training and mental conditioning, he should make it big in muaythai.
Do you think his legs and knees would be as effective as his hands? One other area of concern would be his defense. :boxing:

I still can't imagine Tyson raising those legs and delivering roundhouse kicks. In any case, he'll certainly elevate the sport to a new high level of popularity and excitement. Fans would follow him there for sure. :alucard:
I've only seen Bob Sapp fight once, and he seemed like a real scrub....no offense or nothin cus I could be wrong. But, I was watchin him fight this bald black guy and he was swingin REAL wide and REAL slow. And then he got hit with a single shot to his stomach and that messed up his whole day, he still won, cus it was stopped when he got the guy in a corner and connected twice.
But Tyson kickboxing? I dunno, I can't really see it.
wow... he's coming into my sport now... in my eyes... i think hes gon be like bob sapp but much more dangerous... he could hug he could knee .. elbows... if he can kick the way he punches he got no problems... and the most is 5 rounds so he got no prob bout building up his stamina...

Would Judah make a good K1 fighter?
he has some good choke strikes, on innocent victims.
That would be a plus.

hAVEN'T YOU gotten over that ear-biting incident yet?
The name Tyson is synonymous with "ear biting". You just can't mention the name without the latter coming into mind. :p
The muaythai people should first revise their rules and make it perfectly clear that EAR-BITING is a complete no-no!! :D
