Floyd said the same thing that I made a thread about. He said that Oscar threw the fight with Hopkins so he can get the promotional deal with him and both would get alot of money for the fight. He said why do you think Oscar went down by that weak body blow.
When I made my thread I said the exact same thing. They had a promotional deal like a week after that fight and they were all buddy buddy. The if you watched the fight Hopkins was fighting bad and it was like he wasnt even trying to hit Oscar. I said that they probally had a deal where they would try to make it look like Oscar was winning and then X starts coming on and KO's him. He couldnt do it with a head shot because it would be to hard to fake and it had to be a KO so X would get his respect plus they knew that it would be hard to fake for 12 rounds and be a very boring fight. Everyone was wondering why would X try to box with Oscar. Any other time he wouldve rushed right at Oscar and try to rough him up. It wouldnt be hard for 2 experienced guys to fake it and get away with it and do you think people havent thrown fights before?
I dont know if it was a fix or not but that wasnt a hard looking body shot like some others have landed and the way he stayed down looked fake. He was all beating the canvas and then he got up after 10. If your really hurt, you dont beat on the canvas. Virgil Hill was rolling around and Dorin couldnt even move.
I dont think it was a fix but I honestly wouldnt be surprised if it was. First they tried to act like they hated eachother. They were talking all kind of shit. Oscar said that he had never wanted to beat a guy so bad. Then after a week you have a promotional deal with him and you guys are sitting beside eachother at all the events and smiling.
What about "he could have been great, but never fully achieved it in the ring?"
A kind of halfway house between the two viewpoints?
He did win titles from 160-to heavy. That sound like a great career to me. Its all opinions Anorak...
hmm
Roy's career was great, but not just because of John Ruiz. It's also because of the other notable pros on his resume which includes a who's who list of current and former champs. The main reason why he is a great is because of the way he beat people. Masterclass.
What about if you're both at the same time? I like the guy, but there's no way I'd say his career was great when his "career defining" moment came against John Ruiz.
When he beat Ruiz he was the new Ray Robinson. When he lost, "he was never great." That type of stuff makes me sick to my stomach.
That's cool man. Nice debating it with you, it's good when people can talk about this stuff peacefully and so on.
I find the Cotto-Hatton-Floyd triumviate an intriguing prospect, because it's almost like scissors-paper-stone. Maybe...
If Cotto fought Hatton, I think Cotto might have a chance at winning that one. (Nah, on second thoughts, but you never know, it will be real constant mutual trading, which the Zoo fight wasn't...)
Mayweather beats Cotto.
I still have a suspicion Hatton will beat Mayweather.
I know it will be Hatton's biggest test (in theory, at least) but I've wasted at least £150 down the years betting against Hatton in the belief that he was overrated hype. This last year I'm starting to come to the belief that he might actually be for real.
I think Hattons style makes it difficult for anyone to fight him even Mayweather but I think Mayweather is to smart and to fast for him. Cotto maybe has a punchers chance but I think that Cotto is the right speed for Hatton. Hatton will overwhelm him, punish him and then KO him.
I also didnt believe in Hatton, and the Kostya fight didnt change my mind. Believe it or not the Mausa fight did. It showed me he had power to go along with his non stop pressure and that is a dangerous combination. I mean I didnt think he would KO Carlos and he surprised me and did. To me thats huge cause Mausa has a cinder block for a head.
I believe that while it may not have been fixed before hand, Oscar did in fact take the easy way out, i dont think he was actually hurt, he just decided to quit before things got hairy, because up to that point Don King was right, it was a swimming lesson.
P.S. at 60 dollars PPV Oscar shoulda been encarcerated for stealing lol.
I will say this, has any fighter been in odder/more controversial decisions than Oscar? Mosley 2 (although I had Mosley winning), Sturm, Quartey, Trinidad to name a few. I don't know enough to make an accusation but why is Oscar always involved in these things. The Bernard fight was probably going to a split decision too if it went on
Whether or not Roy had a great career is arguable, it depends on whether you liked him or not. If your a hater your going to say he only faught bums and if your a fan, your going to look at the positives. It just depends...
margarito vs floyd
yah.. i hope that this fight will happen.. since i zab is out.. but first margarito must beat gomez (hope no more upset) then we hope that after 2 yrs of being snubbed, floyd should accept the match..

Floyd would make Margarito look bad for 12 rounds i hope he takes that fight to shut most of you guys mouth like margarito is the next king of the hill Floyd would trash him
mayweather is talking about fighting 3 more times and calling it quits, i just dont know about mayweather sometimes hopefully they will be against 3 top notch opponents
yeah yeah we all know Oscar don't want no parts of Floyd but i hope the deal is made so i can see him get torn apart and finally Floyd get his just due

** Aside from Floyd being dumber than his jock, what does that have to do with Floyd doing a Roy career path? He's already been following the Roy career path, except Roy never had to hire lawyers to haul him before judges for probation and discipline in criminal assault matters.
Floyd is just a Roy wannabe.
There's no way on God's green Earth that Hatton would destroy Castillo. He might Cotto, because Cotto has a questionable chin and drinking problem. He might Corrales, because Corrales has already been destroyed by Castillo.
But Castillo is a man's man and he don't play that shit. A fight vs Hatton would be brutal but niether man would be wiped out. It would be quite competitive.
Castillo will last longer than the others no doubt about that. But he will quit on his stool. I just dont think he has what it takes to last against Hatton. He showed that by not making weight against Corrales.
hmm

lol
LOL...Floyd has a good chin though I think. But...anyone can get KO'd. Floyd could be stopped by Hatton just from pure exhaustion. We'll just have to see. And make no mistake about it, I definitely think Floyd's career will be missing something if he does not defeat Hatton.
I think we'll just have to agree to disagree, mate. I feel confident that if I ran a poll on here asking what fight people would rather see (omitting Winky Wright because I really DON'T think Floyd would EVER step that far out of his safety zone, I really don't) then I think at least 8 out of 10 would want to see Hatton.
It's all very well saying "yeah, but he probably would have beaten Hatton and Cotto anyway..." That's what people say to justify Roy's "career".
I respect your opinion on the matter. Don't get me wrong I would still love to see the fight. I do want to see what Hatton can do against speed because I have yet to see him fight someone who has it. I know deep down though that Cotto gets destroyed, I don't care what anyone says. Hatton also destroys Cotto, Castillo, Corrales, Gatti. Because they would all have to fight his fight and they would all get beat to death doing it. So the only option remains Mayweather for a real dangerous fight for Hatton. So I would love to see it.
hmm
Floyd's gonna be like Roy? Damn...he must be that good then.
Roy didn't duck anyone. He was a Ring champ for years at light heavyweight. Some fights don't get made in boxing, but that doesn't fall squarely on Roy's shoulders.
Floyd on the other hand, is NOT Ring champ at 140 or 147, and until he does accomplish that or something similar then he is not in Roy's league. He's also still young and in my eyes has a loss in his prime to Castillo. But, Floyd has plenty of time to get the high status that some seem willing to garnish him with already. It's too early to say Floyd is a waste. Other greats have had stale periods in their careers. We just need to wait and see.
His projection (you have READ the piece I linked to, right?) is that there's "nothing else" for him to prove beyond the three fighters mentioned. Yet he's a titlist in 140 and will not fight them.
Never mind that Hatton or Cotto aren't ready YET, he has no plans to fight them at all.
I don't blame him, if he can get those fights that he has listed then more power to him. I would rather see him fight Oscar and Winky then Cotto and Hatton to be honest. I doubt he will get Oscar though. So I still think Hatton will be an option for Floyd this year.
Also I dont see why he should wait on those two he tried to get the fights they didnt want him so what is he supposed to do?
Cotto gets busted up if he fights him and Hatton gets UDed easy or busted up like gatti. So to me no matter how long these two wait, Mayweather beats them.
I could see giving Hatton a chance if he would have a fight with someone who had some kind of speed but he has never fought anyone with speed at all. To bad he never fought witter that would have been a good warm up for Floyd and would have given me a reason to say he has a chance against Floyd. The only thing Hattons fights have told me is that he has a good work ethic, solid chin, and he can beat up and out work 35+ year olds. Other than that I dont understand why people act like he can beat Floyd or even have a chance for that matter.
Well anyway the Oscar fight and the Winky fight interest me more than a Hatton fight. But if Hatton offers him a fight this year and he doesnt have that Oscar fight all locked up. Then you can say he ducked Hatton and complain all you want but till then it really isnt justified.
