Mayweather needs a fight with a Gatti to gain respect from mainstream fans and gain popularity. He's beaten everyone he's faced, but he can't draw more than 5,000 fans to an indoor fight in Las Vegas? 140 is one of the most talent-rich divisions in boxing. If Gatti's a bum, Floyd should jump to beat him and set himself up to headline PPVs. Fights with Bruseles's will not increase the excitement level towards a guy that's a p4p top 10. He's not going to be able to get in with some big names at 140 or 147 by simply going over his 135 lb. resume. At least not right away...
Its more of a respect thing than money now. It is a slap in the face of Floyd for him to have to take a $1 million cut in pay. It is just another one of Arum's games where he tries fucking with Mayweather. He has mispromoted Floyd on purpose and fuck if I know why, besides the fact that Arum only likes mexicans. Seriously, go to TopRank.com and tell me I'm wrong.
Well, they sure ain't doin' nothin' to try and promote him on that website. They aren't gettin' him fights either. Floyd needs to figure out some way of getting out from under whatever contract he's got with Top Rank, and get himself a new promoter. The wonderful W.orld of B.unco and C.hicanery. Real fine major pile of crap. :scared:
:cool2: Damn, it's gettin' deep in here. :banghead: RESPECT ... SHOW SOME F*CKING RESPECT, MAN!!! :banghead: There are definitely conflicting reports about who punked out of the fight. Whoever it is, it really sucks. I wouldn't trust Bob Arum as far as I can spit. Isn't he one of the cats being indicted for fixing fights? The fans want to see this fight. What would Floyd get? 2 1/2 mil instead of 3 1/2 mil? Something like that? That sure ain't chump change. Get it on Floyd! Get it on Arturo! Fix it Bob! :firedevil
You're a fucking idiot. Sorry but you obviously need to get real. Okay explain to me how Mayweather has not stepped up to the competition.
I think he is talking about recent times - people have been complaining in the last 6-12 months PBF hasnt fought any big people. Just an observation.
Keep in mind, so I don't have to keep saying it, Floyd is UNDEFEATED. Gatti is NOT.
Being undefeated doesnt mean you have stepped up the competition - if anything, you should keep fighting and searching for the best until you lose. That is of course in a perfect sport. But this is nitpicking and kind of OT.
I'm sad to see this fight not happen too - I have only got into boxing in the last year and havent even seen much of PBF - heard alot from his fans tho :)
master is right...everything he said i was about to say before i read what he typed...i cant believe that guy said "when is mayweather gonna step up the competiton"...i doubt gatti can beat corley n'dou..and maybe not even brusles
Mayweather still needs a big fight at 140Lb, fighting Brussels world ranking 40, Corley world rank 30 isn't proving your self at this weight. If he doesn't take this fight who will he fight Zoo is fighting Hatton, Cotto's people wont put him in with Mayweather yet, and i can't see mayweather fighting Harris or Witter. I think Mayweather needs to take this fight, if he doesn't and fights someone outside the top 10 he will be proving nothing.
Gatti is a bitch. I'm sorry, but that's how I feel. The dude would jump off the scale so many times because he was overweight for his fights that he would be fighting 140 fighters all the time when he really was a middleweight himself. Once or twice, okay, 10 times, no, that's fucking wrong and downright immoral. He's putting those other fighters at risk doing that shit. And you can say well they willingly get in that ring too. Yes, but they get in thinking they're fighting a guy of the same weight, not 20 lbs heavier.
actually this tactic is a very common practice for alot of fighters who are fighting at lighter weights. before weigh-in, they would limit their food intake, thus lowering their weight. but after that, they'll eat like lions. you'll see the difference during fight night.
im a gatti fan, though
Solo, that is one of the oddest arguments I have ever read. So you're saying Gatti is a good fighter because he sucks? Or something like that? Ummm, look at what you said
"The point isn't that he's a good fighter, cause he's not."
then you say...
"Of course Gatti can't beat Mayweather. But to say that he isn't a good fighter is ridiculous."
Dumbass
My bad, I didn't make it clear what I was trying to say. Nobody thinks that Gatti is a p4p top prizefighter, but everyone always gives him a chance. That's what I meant when we shouldn't bring Gatti's boxing skill into the debate. That's not his strength. What is his strength is his ability to overcome odds (reinventing his style, coming from behind to score knockouts, etc.). That's why he's a viable contender, in my eyes. Floyd could be cutting him up all night with jabs and hooks, but the fans will always cheer for Gatti because they know what he is capable of.
You're a fucking idiot. Sorry but you obviously need to get real. Okay explain to me how Mayweather has not stepped up to the competition.
Let us examine the big fights of Floyd's career and Gatti's career. Keep in mind, so I don't have to keep saying it, Floyd is UNDEFEATED. Gatti is NOT.
Floyd BEAT:
Genaro Hernandez!! (8th round ko Floyd was 17-0, Hernandez's 1 loss was DLH)
Angel Manfredy (2nd round knockout)
Justin Juuko
Emanuel Augustus
Diego Corrales
Carlos Hernandez
Jesus Chavez
JC Castillo TWICE w/broken hands
Victoriano Sosa
Corley
That is 10 big fighters. Hell even omit Augustus, even though that is still a significant person worth mentioning.
Now Gatti beat...damn it was hard finding anybody:
Gabriel Ruelas
Joey Gamache (oh and Gatti weighed 160 at the time of the fight, 140 limit, that is a fact).
Terron Millet
Joe Hutchinson
Ward
Leija (washed up as hell)
Gatti LOST TO:
Manfredy (8th round TKO, Gatti weighed 155 at 135 limit)
Ivan Robinson TWICE (Hahahahaha)
De La Hoya (yeah no shame there)
MICKEY WARD (MWA HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! LMAO!!! Lost to Mickey Ward!!!)
King Solomon?! Who the fuck? Hahahaha.
Yet you say when is Mayweather going to step up? Mayweather has fought AND BEAT better competition. The only person Gatti fought that is better than any of Mayweather's competition is Oscar De La Hoya, who knocked Gatti out in 5 rounds. Ask anybody here, DLH destroyed him from the opening round.
And I don't care, there is no justifying losing to Mickey Ward if you're a serious contender. Gatti is a C level fighter, period.
Mayweather isn't ducking Gatti, it is definitely, definitely the other way around.
I can't believe how you're disrespecting Gatti. The point isn't that he's a good fighter, cause he's not. But the fact that he still wins is a tribute to his heart and not his skill. Now I'm the biggest Mayweather fan there could be, but I'll say to you that he reminds me of Roy Jones, and I'm talking about the one that got ktfo twice because of his arrogance and carelessness. Of course Gatti can't beat Mayweather. But to say that he isn't a good fighter is ridiculous. Find one other fighter that comes through the fire he has and emerges on top. Cause that's the reason he has fans.
That's too bad this fight isn't happening. This fight would have been fight of the year. I'm hearing conflicting stories as to who punked out of this fight though.
This is a fight I really wanted to see. I'd be in Gatti's corner, but it would be an awesome fight no matter which way it went. It would be so cool to watch Gatti beat Mayweather. That would really be somethin' to see. :boxing:
