Who do you think is the best body puncher in history? By best, I don't mean the hardest hitting body puncher, I mean who was the most effective, who knew when to go to the body and when to go to the head? Who put together the best body attacks, and who could break down thier opponent physically and mentally (throwing them off their game plan) with their well executed body attacks?
Bodypunching
I was wondering also. How many fighters do u know made guys quit on there stool because of the body attack?(Mayweather 2) How many guys u know made u piss two pints of blood due to the body attack?(Taylor 1)
Thats the brutal souvenier that you give your opponent- make him piss blood for a couple of days after the fight to remind him of the punishment he took in the ring. I have to agree with you all about the best body punchers...they mustve taken an anatomy class because they know exactly where the liver is located...and once you see your opponent react to the punch then its all over...keep banging him with that left until he drops. :boxing: To those that have ever been hit in the "sweet spot" its a pain that you remember your whole life. It hurts so bad and lasts so long, Id rather get hit in the head any day compared to a liver punch. Anyone else ever get hit in the "sweet spot" before? Tell us how it felt.
JC CHAVEZ
MICKEY WARD
ALEXIS ARGUELLO
James Toney he should have had the "The BodySnatcher" nickname and Roy Jones ain't a all time great but after ne zeroed V Hill with a body shot he was as brutal as anyone when he committed to the body. Mosley was pretty good too and I agree JCC and Mickey Ward were amongst the best.
JC Chevez can be put in any great catagory, because he was so great.
Julio Cesar Chavez was a great body puncher, so is Jose Luis Castillo, I really think his son has proven that he will be a great body puncher, but he still has a couple of years to be one of the greatest body punchers out there.
"The BodySnatcher" Mike McCallum:
he has heeps of ko's to the body and would throw a body shot everytime he threw a combo or was on the inside, very well too i might add.
Julio Ceasar Chavez:
he wore down all his opponents with a body attack. with a high punch output, and going to the body, JCC was able to drown his opponents in the deep end of the fight.
these are the only two that i can refer to cause i've seen them fight, and they are the only ones who come to mind when thinking about body punchers.
So many to name, but off the top of my head:
-Joe Frazier: could be hailed as the best of all-time based on pure determination, effort, and relentlessness.
-Mike McCallum: they didn't called him the "Body Snatcher" for nothing.
-Bob Fitzsimmons: won the heavyweigh title on a single left hook to the solar plexus. Yeah, that was pretty good...
-Tony Zale: from all accounts, he had the best body attack of his day.
-Julio Cesar Chavez: what Mexican can't throw a left hook to the body? His was probably the best of them all, and that's saying something.
There are also many fighters who were so versatile and skilled, they didn't concentrate on the body as much, but they still thew excellent body blows: Roberto Duran, Ray Leonard, Alexis Arguello
Awesome list!
I think Hagler shadowboxed underwater, many of the good fighters have done it but when you see their routine posted it doesn't include it for some reason. What else would give him such an edge when it came to punching power, also swimming strengthens the neck, maybe that's why he was un KO'able..
I also know for a fact that Johnny Tapia shadowboxed underwater (not that he's a great fighter)
LOL, Ali started this "underwater" fighting craze.
I remember watching a sportscentury about him, Ali couldn't even swim, and he just jumped in the water and made up a story about practicing underwater for this writer watching him for a couple laughs. Now every body thinks it's required to be a champ LOL
I always hated ali, but it's so funny to think everybody that trains underwater, does so from a prank

Cant believe nobody has mentioned JC Chavez

Definitely when it comes down to body punching u hav 2 includ jc chavez, but mickey ward only had in my opinion one good body punch which was the left hook. If he would of used more of a two handed body assault i would have put him higher.
JCC, Salvator Sanches, and Mikey Ward.
JCC and Sanches would break their opponents bodys down throughout the fight.
Ward would end the fight with one shot. 27 KOs on his record...almost all the result of body shots.
