how do you thinks boxers would do in a streetfight? i mean guys like kostya tszyu who is alight short guy but hits like a ton of bricks. Floyd mayweather seems to be a great streetfighter although he's short and light. do you think weight is important in a streetfight or are skills more important?
what if it was a manny pacquiao, rafael marquez, or roberto durn
you can't win on these guys.... unless you weigh 175lbs and an experienced boxer, probably :boxing:
ya
If I had beef with a world class fighter on the street, I dont think I would fight him. Unless it was a guy from 135lbs and lower

This is the thing about MMA:
a trained MMA that knows how to grapple /strike and do takedowns well should kick a boxers ass if he's any good,(shamrock vs vitali, prime shamrock would own him on the street)
but
a boxer has a better chance of taking out a crowd of 10-15 normal people while the mma guy's grappling and takedowns would mean dick here, and his lack of striking would be exposed and he'd get punked
any day the boxer is the better choice, more money in professional ranks, and more useful outside the ring.
I respect Bruce lee but he was more a stylist and an actor rather than a true fighter so all this is pure theory. I think if u really wanna know whats effective, watch MMA fights (which I don't especially appreciate it's often real ugly) a great grappler/jiu-jitsu expert with ability to slip punches will prevail, along with quick/big punches and kicks. Boxers are dangerous but limited in a streetfight. and the mental ability to unload at full power outside of the ring, well maybe everybody don't have it. I guess some boxers could be gunshy the first few seconds and get KO by a big crazy guy
But don't forget that these "theories" are almost all practiced now in MMA schools...believe me, I've been to three and there were pictures of BRUCE LEE all over each of the schools. I mean to say in the 70s to put wrestling & boxing together was pretty silly. Each school sort of kept to their own thing rather than thinking about other styles and schools.
As for crazy people...I fear them more than bigger trained guys I've fought. You can never really predict what they're going to do.
Boxers can handle themselves better in a streetfight than most other martial artists probably.
Actually if you have a good command of pressure points and or sweet spots for punching and kicking, (most boxers do) you should be able to handle yourself.
Tell me one time a pure boxer has won a fight in a full contact match (UFC, PRIDE, etc). There was one or times I've seen it happen...well, I actually saw it once never saw the other. In the earlier UFC matches where there were no rounds nor were there gloves...the boxers were getting hammered left and right.
Of course these people were not elite boxers nor were their competitors. It'd still be the same now considering all the full contact fighters are no longer just karate or jujitsu or kick boxing practitioners and they work out full-time.
So if we get a mediocre boxer against a mediocre martial artist in the street the result will probably be the same as they were in the first series of UFC tournaments.
All I know is. Fighting RJJ on the street would be an absoulute nightmare. He has size, speed, power, and intelligence. Imagine him slipping punches and hitting you with blind shots. Damn.

trust me, you wouldnt want to fuck with hamed or kevin kelley on the street.believe me.
more seriously , i m a former national amateur boxer , and honestly the fw fights i have been in i just landed a combo and the guys were knocked down or looking at me with a scared look .
most peôple dont know how to fight , and even more dont know you can put punches together.
i fought in muay thai too but i would only use low kicks and knees in a fight , kicks are way too risky IMO .
i read a while back you where in some good streetfights can you tell us one or two of your own experiences?
I was in some a few years ago, to be honest there isnt much to tell. Like i said i just pick my shot and take them out, it helps when your pretty big too. :D
I'll save my storys for another day.

gunshy? now that's funny :D
I skipped a page so I dont know if this has already been posted, Bruce Lee once said that if someone does 1 year of boxing and 1 year of wrestling they could probably beat most pure style martial artists out there and probably win a most streetfights...

let's not forget boxers enter the ring mentally/physically prepared and ready to go at it. if u get in trouble on a street, it can go so quick that it's only about who lands the 1st shot. And bare hands is totally different from gloves u break hands very quick. most effective weapons are elbows and knees rather than punches. I think a real big/though agressive and crazy guy could take any fighter with a bit a luck..a boxer can't block a kick to the groin or such stuff
streetfighters give me the impression that they use power more often than brains, correct me if i'm wrong..
yeah because most people panic in a streetfight and just start throwing punches as hard as they can.
Street fighting far too easy for a good boxer, most street fights are against a wanna be thug who throws wild shots.
You've just gotta take a step back, see an opening and them take them out with a heavy shot(under the chins my favourite)
A fighter like Tszyu could kick most people's ass.
