after defending his crown for
an amazing 20'th time and
pretty much beating every
middle weight worth of a title shot
what should Bernard "the executioner" Hopkins
do now?
-Retire
-Fight Trinidad
-Move up
-Stay A Middle Weight.
There are a host of people Hopkins could fight, as well as at least 5 potential money fights.
Knowing Hopkins, he would like to avoid any unecessary risk. Fighters and potential money fights can be looked at like this:
Winky Wright: this fight would be huge. The only problem would be negotiations, considering Winky would almost as much as hopkins, who is the undisputed champion. This assuming Winky moves up to challenge (which would be the only option). This fight may make for a boring one, however; looks appealing to hardcore boxing fans. This also would be considered a "risky" fight for Hopkins, facing the crafty southpaw.
Jermaine Taylor: With his win over his sparring partner, he proved very little in my opinion. He still has maybe 2 or 3 fights before fighting Hopkins. The money factor will be irrelevant in this case. Im almost sure Taylor will be happy to take 1/10 of what Hopkins is getting paid. This risk level in fighting Taylor is low.
Felix Trinidad: A rematch with Tito would make for the highest paying fight of all potential money fights. With Tito's last win, everyone who clings to him has been crying out for a rematch. Those who saw the first fight, noticed that Tito was completely blown out of the water. IMO he has no chance at winning a rematch. The risk level assosciated with this fight is very low for Hopkins.
Joe Calzaghe: This fight would be one of the biggest fights in european history. In the past, given comments made by Calzaghe, its apparent he holds himself in high regard. When calling out Roy Jones, he also insinuated he deserved as much money. In all likelyhood he wont recieve a 15th of what hopkins gets. As far as the actual fight goes, this would be difficult for Hopkins. Calzaghe is a power puncher, who unlike Eastman, can piece together combinations. High level of risk for Hopkins.
Jeff Lacy: Lacy proves he belongs on the scene by stopping Vanderpool, something Hopkins could not do. He looked mediocre against Sheika, however; he is ready to fight Hopkins IMO. Lacy may have some problems with footwork, something which would give Hopkins the edge. Lacy's punching power and tenacity make this a difficult fight for Hopkins. Moneywise, its obvious that Lacy would take PAY for this fight to happen. Risk level for Hopkins, High.
Retirement: If Hopkins and Retirement decide to fight, this would make for a "no-money" show for hopkins, and he would have to be content with his current bank balance.

It doesn't suck for Taylor at all. Taylor has a good shot at fighting Hopkins because Hopkins and Taylor seem to want the fight to happen, and that fight is attractive to fight fan because people want to see if the heir apparent can go ahead and be the King.
taylor might not want to fight B-hop and hopkins might want a fight that doesnt have risk
hmm

hopkins will fight taylor then tito then he said he would go up to fight tarver/glen winner...i kinda wanted to see him vs sturm he's gonna skill taylor
___
hopkins vs:
-taylor:ko him and schools taylor
-trinidad:tito doesn better but still get his ass handed to him and probably ko'ed earlier,i like itot but screw him for pulling the reirement crap and waiting for b-hop to get old
-glen:get KTFO by hopkins in the middle rounds(again hehe)
-tarver:umm as long as hopkins sticks to his plan it will be fairly easy
-Lacy:kinda a toss up but if Sheika was able to make it against Lacy and EVEN OUT BOX him a couple of rounds if Hopkins boxes he will school lacy and possibly ko him late
-sturm:he wont ko sturm but might UD him
-RJJ:beats hopkins always i think
That's true but Hopkins already said the belts mean nothing to him now, he has got his 20 defenses and now he just wants big fights/money fights.
ya kidna sucks for taylor and sturm though. here comes 2 top olyimpic middleweights about to break out in there career and they just miss the hopkins train it might even hurt them in the long run they could always be in hopkins shadow.
on a side note if tito does lose then sturm will be number 1 contender in all belts cept wbc which he will be number 2 in with taylor 1 so if he doesnt want to fight any of these young guys he is gonna have to ditch all his belts. but liek u said its abotu money now 2 fights maybe getting 10-15M and going out
yep
he'd ahve to can a couple titles if he does that cause he wont be fighting sturm wont hurt his legacy though

Supposedly negotiations for a Taylor-Hopkins fight are already underway, and rightfully so in my opinion.
Some of you guys fail to realize that Glen Johnson has to fight Tarver again and many people feel that Tarver will win that fight, and that he won the 1st fight. If Tarver wins, Johnson can't fight Hopkins for SHIT...lol. Also, neither Tarver or Johnson will be available until October at the earliest because they aren't fighting each other until June/July. Read up, boys.
Calzaghe has a fight soon I believe that he should win, so maybe he would be an option but Hopkins hasn't really mentioned him. The most obvious choices out there are as follows, based on Hopkins' on words.
1) Taylor, to be fought sometime between late may and mid-June.
2) Winner of Tito-Wright, to be fought sometime in September.
3) Winner of Tarver-Johnson, to be fought sometime in December.
If he is to fight 3 mor times like he seems to imply he would like to, then this seems to me to be the most likely schedule. It wouldn't be unreasonable to think he might only fight twice more this year however.

Either move up and fight Glenn Johnson or Antonio Tarver...or stay in Middleweight and fight Jermain Taylor.
Move up? not in a million times will he do that!
Theres 10months left on his career,so I doubt he can get 3 more big fights in that time frame.I think the best idea is for B-Hop to go for a title at 168(maybe against Calzaghe or Lacy?),than fight undisputed Lt.Heavyweight Champ Glen Johnson for his final fight.
I respect your opinion Spinks but I truly believe that Tito was not prepared to fight Nard the first fight...remember that was just his second fight as a middleweight and Trinidad's biggest mistake on that fight was that he didn't box and was looking for the KO all the time..
Thats cool and I can see how it did distract Tito, Same way I feel Barrera was distracted with Pacquaio. But in each fight, I feel it still wouldnt make that much of a difference. Tito always has had trouble with boxers, dont get me wrong Tito is great without a shadow of a doubt but I believe Hopkins would move to much for Tito . If Tito caught him maybe, Im still not sure if Hopkins has had his chin tested but none the less if Tito was able to pull it off it would be a hell of a fight for him...But in a likelyhood its possible at this point their careers.

i think so too, any boxer who looks for the KO and nothing else against BH will be in big trouble...
given the chance Tito will fight BH again, i think the puerto rican will box more and move more. lightning will not strike twice on tito :boxing:
IMO Taylor is ready...Do you really think that Eastman would last 12rds against Taylor..I know that styles make fights but Bernard doesn't have much in the tank right now...
Yes I do, Eastman has a tough chin but it would be a war each fighter would trade all night. Unless Taylor ran away but Eastman would be their to meet him.

I think Eastman would go 12 against Taylor and i wouldnt put it past Howard to catch him with a big right at some point. Taylor hasnt demonstrated great counterpunching ability yet to me. And with Bernard, yeah he is losing steam physically but the man is a mental genius. He makes fighters fight his game no matter what. if Taylor tries to rush him early, hes gonna tie him up inside and start busting uppercuts, If Taylor tries a boxing match bernard will pull the same thing he did against Howard which was to just slip and counter all night. Hopkins only loss was against a man with absolutely amazing hand speed in roy Jones. it will take someone who is a pressure fighter, has good power and GREAT speed and a decent chin to beat Bernard. i just dont see Taylor exhibiting all of those qualities yet.
very well said GIANT ONE, Taylor wouldnt be able to deal with a fighter who will grab you hit you low and then bust you on your hip and follow through to the head...Bernard would be to advanced for Taylor's liking.
borikua-I didnt give Felix any rounds in their first fight and I dont see it being any different this time around.
You are trippin man. Felix i give a shot in a rematch but Taylor has NONE right now. He doesnt know how to deal with someone wholl tie him up and use dirty tricks in order to get the job done. His most difficult opponent to date was a shot version of William Joppy. When Taylor cleanly beats someone like an Eastman or a Sturm then talk about his chances against Bernard.Until then he needs to step up his opponenet class cause Edouard wasnt even close to the same level as him and never will be
I think he should retire
he has done alot with his carrer
he has nothignt to prove,
and in his last fight
he didnt seem like himself.
he is one of the smartest fighters ever
Sounds like he wants Tarver, Johnson, Tito and maybe even Taylor. Im sure what ever fight pays the most.
Tarver/Sturm makes the least amount of money.
Although Glen and Taylor would probably generate about the most for Hopkins.
The winner of the Winky and Trinidad fight is where its at, permitted Trinidad wins...IF Winky pulls an upset and fights Bernard it wont be as a big of an attraction as the others.
Although Hopkins got 3.8 million for Eastman, I could about 5 or 6 for Taylor/Trinidad
