First off, I would like to say that I was not surprised but I wasnt impressed either.
Eastman fought how I thought he would, He took a punch at a time. Although I had the fight much closer since I believe Eastman did a hell of a lot more than Hopkins in the early round.
But I am not going to criticize Hopkins for the way he fought, and I think its absurd that a lot of people are as well. This style is how Hopkins got to number 20.
A usual Hopkins fight, is he takes the first round feels you out and then puts his footwork to use to let his opponent punch himself out and then in the 2nd half he executes. Their was nothing unusual about the way Bernard fought tonight.
I thought Eastman would have been a bit more busier in the fight, especially with his long reach but that was not the case. I also felt the announcers did a horrible job on their part last night, everytime Hopkins would land a jab you would hear "Ohh good god did you see that crisp jab that wobbled Eastman." Especially when I would see Eastman tap Hopkins and Hopkins never even touches Eastman, maybe my eyes deceive me but this is a continous thing for their HBO fighters....Roy usually corrects them but Roy was gloating all night (If you couldnt tell)
Anyways, I was a bit disappointed but not entirely. Hopkins fought his fight and their was nothing else to it.
Congrats to you B-Hop on your 20 victims.
Great career and I actually enjoyed the fight last night, Very defense and counterpunching all night...Eastman needed to be busier and power wasnt a factor either.
Vintage Hopkins right their....Does this man age?
Eastman was aggressive and did fight his "normal" fight. Y'all are showing your reluctance to give Hopkins props by saying "well, if Eastman would've done this, it could've been a draw".. no, it couldn't have, because ultimately Hopkins is the more skilled fighter and would have adapted to whatever Eastman brought to the table.
Eastman gave it his all, but as Roy Jones pointed out, he got entirely too close to Hopkins and smothered his own punches (and smothered Hopkins' counters in the process). He'd miss with a jab, dive in with a right hand and miss, and it would always result in a clinch. That's part of the reason why it wasn't a crowd pleasing fight. But this is exactly the way Eastman generally fights; look at his fights with McCracken and Joppy. He wants to dive in close because half of his offense is predicated around getting in a big uppercut, and as you saw, Hopkins didn't allow him to do that.
Eastman gave just as much of an effort against Hops as Tito and Echols did, but those fights were more exciting because Tito and Echols didn't smother their own punches.. they made damn sure to give themselves the proper spacing to unleash their blows with maximum leverage. In turn, they gave Hopkins enough space to fuck them up with counters all night. If Eastman cut off the ring and gave himself space to operate, the fight wouldn't have been any closer, there just would have been more action. Hopkins would've bounced off the ropes and countered the shit out of the slower Eastman for 12 rounds.
What's with all the personal attacks on this site?
Doesn't americans have any kind of decency?
lol...sure we do, most of us anyway..some just dont know how to debate with others! :D
100 million, but I didnt need that amount anyhow....Points to me are obsolete, I have evertyhing of valuable already from the store and still got cash to burn.....Perhaps another 100 million point bet will be on the horizon coming up in march/may
Care to bet that 100M on Morales ? :D
it's funny how you prance around this site like you're some kind of boxing expert...there are other people who including myself who box on this site as well. You don't hear us making idiotic boastful predictions like some know it all like you. You sat there and claimed...wait...you boasted that Hopkins would lose because of some ridiculous EA Sports curse...even betted 100 million points like a genius...oh wait but you box so that must mean your word is holier then thou. :fuckyou:

Boastful predictions? You know how many people are just throwing out crazy predictions on the pac-morales fight, but whatever beef you got with me...I expect you to bury it, if you dont like me their is an ignore button to filter out my threads. I suggest you do so. Also I am a pretty calm guy and blow with the wind, so whatever rants you want to throw at me and try to aggravate me, be my guest....

making errors is of human nature
but only real man accept they made them.
good man.
yeah Hop is the MAN
fuck all them haters
Yes it was rather stale, But he did what he had to do I guess. Power wasnt an issue and really showed through last night, each fighter caught each other with tremendous on the button shots and neither did stumble....Very defensive and all about countering...I give it a C- and rate Hopkins performance around that as well...Neither fighter *****d through last night.
Props to you Spinks for admitting you were wrong..most posters here dont like to do that..it's too manly for them to handle. So good for you! I like and admire that about a person (especially since you didnt have to, nobody would have made a federal case of it).it takes guts! ;) And you are hardly the first person to make a wrong perdiction, and you wont be the last, I'm sure!
I just watched the fight again and scored round 1 even, 2-5 for Eastman, 6-12 for Hopkins (Hopkins winning 116-113). I was so mad last night because the fight ABSOLUTELY sucked! I can't believe how much Hopkins ran (not boxed, RAN). He reminded me of ODLH in the last 4 rounds against Tito.
Anyway, my hat is off to Nard for winning the fight (win today and look good the next time, right?). It would be hard for ANYONE to catch Nard if he fights like that again. He didn't fight like a 25 year old but he certainly ran like one.

I think the reason he couldnt fight in his normal style is because of the way hop was fighting. He used his style to throw Eastman off.
I think Eastman not watching videos was a mistake. Maybe if he would have expect B-Hop to move around so much he could have adapted better. I think Eastman came in looking to fight in the center face to face but got a sad surprise.
Eastman complained about how B was running but it wasnt really running as much as exploiting the weakness of Eastman.(thanks to GodzHand for putting it into better perspective for me)
I think also, as some other people have mentioned, Eastman's corner was a big factor, I dont remember them telling him to look out for the left hook that kept smashing in his face.
Well, you call it exploiting, I'll call it running. When you actually turn your back on your opponet in your haste to get away, thats running. As for the corner warning him about the left hooks, you'd think after tasting a few he wouldnt need much warning!
Hey I'll be the first to back Spinks up by saying that the style Eastman showed us last night was NOT his usual style. That statement is still correct, in a way. If Nard hadnt run so damn much, and if Eastman had cut the ring off while he was running instead of following him around, he may have been able to win more of the early rounds.

nah
its cuz them hbo dicks made it seem that way
they kpet pushin that its all hopkins fault
and that they had nothin so lets bare with them
how many countless times have we seen that when fights end early the other fight doesnt start right away
specialy with big fights like this
they usually do have set ring entrance times n everything
Yeah, probably so! I just got so bored, and thats totally unlike me. Like I said, I usually get into all the prefight talk..just not last night  And I was really hoping the Taylor fight would go a little longer..it's time that boy was REALLY tested..and Edouard is usually a pretty tough nut. I hated to see it over so soon (subconciously I knew that Jermain was more fun to watch than Nard, maybe?? :D )
OH, and thanks for the karma guys..I just tried to give some back to both of you and it said I had to spread it around..I'll get back to ya! ;)
lol, the delay affected me! I got tired of them yacking for so long..usually I get into the prefight talk, etc..but for some reason last night I was running out of patience with the whole crew! Maybe I was just in bitch mode, or something! :D

whats this bout everyoen sayin hopkins kpet hurten eastmen
i never really thought he was in danger
he just looked to have horrible balnce
he almost fell over jsyt fro followin hopkins around
does anyone think the delay effected eastmen?
i mean right when the taylor fight was over
they showed him all geared up and already warming up
i dont know if that caused him to loose the fight
but i think it had an affect on him

You can argue about Eastman not being able to fight his fight, but thats the name of the game....But if I do recall, Hopkins turned his back and actually ran from Eastman in the first half and in that round the judges and lederman had it scored for Hopkins....Hopkins didnt dominate that round and Eastman was a lot more busier, but running gets him a win for the round? If I do beleive Hakkar ran like Hopkins the whole fight and Bernard called him a sissy for running.....Although the second half closed the deal on Hopkins winning....But I still had it closer and with each fighter not dominating
Yeah man, when Nard did that I was too shocked to laugh! And I sit there like a fool thinking that Harold HAD to have given that round to Eastman!! Oh well, some things never change, and being too kind to the house fighter seems to be one of them!
Hopkins actually made him look a bit silly in the second half..guess he decided that Eastman couldnt hurt him or something. I had forgotten that Hop said that about Hakkar! Thanks for the reminder! :D A touch of irony!
Exactly! I know Nard believes in using the ring but dayyymmnnn, enough already! Eastman couldnt keep up with him..he'd barely catch him when Nard would change directions again! Frustrating. I dont think Eastman fought his normal style cause he didnt get a chance to. If he had been able to cut him off and open up he would have taken most, if not all, of the first 6 rounds, and maybe eeked out a draw??
