I dont wanna start up a trend of Jones threads but since hearing of the proposed return who think he has a chance of success again, i think a move down to super middle if he times it properly wouldnt be a bad move he could fight Hopkins if Hopkins would be prepared ot make the weight, that would generate a lot of money and would be good for the sport

It is time for Jones to retire, there is no need for him to continue.
I would like to see Roy fight again, and win so he could leave boxing on a winning note. I think a properly trained and focused Jones could beat Eric Harding and beat Tarver in a third fight.
He might be able to avenge the loss against Glen Johnson, but not both. Like someone mentioned, he relies on his speed and reflexes, and we all know that the reflexes is the first thing to go in boxing.
Now Roy Jones probobly question his very own chin, and that leads to downfall for any boxer. Just ask Wladimir Klitschko.
Roy Jones certainly is not anywhere near the greatests fighters in the sport, but he may be the one with most talent in history of the sport.
However, I don't feel that it's necessary for a fighter to be in a war to be labelled great. If you are so freakin' good that you just outclass every single guy you face, then how can it be fair to say that someone who gets lucky with single punches against top competition is any greater?
Why can't you guys just settle with that Roy Jones Jr. was the best in the world at what he did, outbox and outsmart others.
And accept that Holyfield is better at going to war, and that Trinidad is better to stalk people and knock them out.
You can't compare those, it's not fair to any of them.
lol
That is such bullshit. You don't have to be in a war to be considered great. Roy outclassed too many fighters in different weightclasses to be considered nothing but one of the greatest of all time. I'll take Bert Sugar's old school appreciation of Roy over yall's trashing of him anyday.
Unfortunately I think that legacy has been tarnished by ending his careers in KOs. How many competitive fights did Roy have before his last three? In all seriousness he needs to avenge those two losses in maximum style, and also prove he has a chin, and these were just blips. Then he needs to clear out the entire division all over again just to prove the point. Sadly, I don't think it will happen, will it?
He doesn't have to prove shit. He's fuckin' 35, what can he prove? If he doesn't do anything from here on out it will not hurt his legacy at all. He did some damage to his body losing that muscle and he's speed fighter who relies on a young man's muscle, but he is 35 now...so sue him that his style relied on speed/reflexes, is that a crime? No. His career is by no means wasted either. Not the greatest, but one of the greatest.
As for that steroid thing, are you really that gullible? Richard Hall claimed Roy failed a drug test after their fight, but Richard Hall had more than TWICE the amount in his blood! In any case, it has been widely stated by people outside of Jones' camp, including people on this message board that Jones had used a nasal spray which had some of the same elements which cause a test to come out as positive, and nothing more.
Even IF you think he was on steroids (which has not been proved at all), many people argue that steroids do not help boxers, and that they in fact HURT boxers (stamina, health, etc.)
Thanks, but the really sad thing about Roy is that he could have had those Nortons and Frazier's if he hadn't been so devoted to never risking anything. Michael Nunn could have tested him, James Toney at Cruiser Weight would have been a great fight, Mike Tyson.
Roy's resume could be legendary! Instead he is famous for going an entire year without losing a round, and rounds where his opponent didn't land a punch.
Ya, I guess you're right. I just don't like Roy Jones or anyone who degrades the sport with steroids. That's why I would like him to be able to actually prove something, or get punished for cheating.
What's Roy got to lose legacy wise. He was great. If he wins people can call it a comeback. If he loses, he just ends his career on 3 Ko's instead of 2, not much difference, except for the brain damage. That's the kinda thinking that has Holyfield still deluded and torturing every one of his fans and loved ones each time out.
It's a pipe dream. It's over. Go enjoy your money and what remains of your health. Spend time with the family you've placed second to boxing up til now.
i wish him luck...and if he gets his head stright and the weight doesnt mess him up,he has the ability and skills to beat Tarver no doubt,i dont know if he will make it but wish him luck

Hehe, true my friend, true

Nope, it won't.
But I don't agree with you that his legacy is ruined because of the two knockouts ending his career.
Many a great fighter loses in the end of their careers, often many times too.
I think it's funny this chin-question though...
If a fighter with such a weak chin as Roy's manages to accomplish that much, what does it say about his skill?
Clearly, with a weakness like that, you can't suck and become title-holder in four weight-divisions, can you?
I think it's absolutely astonishing that someone can go through their career without being hit hard on the chin! Why is that something we take away credit for?
I know Roy's got a bad chin, even in his prime. Just look at his fight with Bernard Hopkins, and you'll see in round 8 and out, that when Roy is getting tagged with Hopkins' right, he backs into the rope and grabs Hopkins, looking to clear his head.
And Hopkins isn't a puncher, never was.
Let me ask you this, what would happen if Sugar Ray Robinson had that bad a chin? And Ray Leonard? Muhammad Ali? Evander Holyfield?
Got the picture?
Clearly, the talent needed to avoid all hard punches for 15 years has got to be immense? Or?
I see no need for him to even try to reclaim glory.
Why risk your life for something you've already done?
Why embarrass the legacy, the status and the respect he have now?
It makes no sense for him to keep fighting. It just doesn't make sense...

Any success would just encourage him to continue til he's another confused, deluded "Holy" case.
