it is really stupid. I lose respect for fighters when they start rambling about god and their religion after a win. it's like, I bet you weren't doing that the last time you lost, even though you should've, even though you lost, you should thank god because you are ok...have you ever heard a losing fighter thank god ? no.
my point? rambling about religion basically lets most people know you generally have a shoe size iq, and are an asshat. take monte barrett for example.
He gets a nice win over Beck last Friday, what does he do? He thanks god. this is acceptable, however when it came time for him to be interviewed, this is what happened.
"Monte, we noticed that cut open up on your left eye. Did a punch cause this or a headbutt?"
Monte: "YaKnowmSayin I'd like to thank jesus, everyone my family and friends etc. (this is acceptable. I expect winners to thank their family and trainers, however, read on.)
the interviewer pauses, realizes he was ignored, and sort of looks offended, then forces a smile at barrett, just because he's a bitch at heart, and doesn't want to force the question.
"Monte, when you got cut, did you know it was going to be a TKO loss for you if the fight got stopped? or did you think it would goto the cards?"
Monte: seemsayin I'd like to thank jesus I am his savoir and this was for him.
"Monte, did the cut give you any problems whatsoever"
Monte: Seem'sayin I went in and did well, he motivated me, thats what this man did. he motivated me. DON KING YOU DA BLACK JERRY MCGUIRE THIS MAN GONNA SHOW ME DA MONEY! DON KING DA BLACK JERRY MCGUIRE GONNA SHOW ME DA MONEY!
it was like the guy didn't speak english, yet he did.. and thats all i have to say about that. i bet the guy interviewing him was like 'what a fuckhead'
Never did I say I was offended, only that I was entertained, and not at the fact that the boxer thanked everyone and said he loved god. It was at the fact that he blatently ignored the interviewer, and kept saying what he wanted to, rather than answer his questions. It was like he knew he was a punk ass low tier commentator and just pretty much ignored him completely. I wish I had it on my computer, that interview is somethin else.
This isn't a religion bash thread, btw.

I know you are a hardcore christian, and I didn't mean to offend you or any other christian with this. I am not annoyed at the fact that he thanks god, thanking god is fine, however when you ignore the interview that puts you in the public eye and ignore the questions, continue to do your own thing, over and over, it's funny and annoying at the same time. I do not mind it at all, in fact it entertains me. That monte barrett interview made me laugh so hard I had taken a sip of some water right before the 3rd question, and spit it all out mid-laugh in like a mist right afterwards.
ps-what the heck beck is a cheap bastard he butted him it was crystal clear. he did it smoothly though. holyfield style.
Maybe he didn't hear the intreviewer.
Anyweyz, the only thing that bothers me when they thank the Lord is that the second after that, they ramble about how great they are and how they're the best. I mean you thank God one second and praising yourself the next. Where's the humility? Take Bronco Mckart for example. The guy asks his opponents to say a prayer with him after the fight. At least theres some credability with that instead of fighters who pretend to be religious for the cameras.
Man, Barret must of still been stunned from all the hard shots he took in this fight cause he was making no sense at all! It was like all his cynapses were firing at once. I lost some respect for Barret after that interview though.
I don't see what the problem is that some of you peeps are complaining about. Let boxers thank who they want to thank. If a man thanks his mother in every fight he goes through win or lose, some of peeps would respect that. But for some reason when someone wants to give God his due respect suddenly your offended by that? I don't understand that. Personally, I have heard boxers thank God after facing pretty bad loses (decision losses and knockout losses). They thanked God for their health and whatever else and kept it movin.
Nobody's perfect, and for some of you to try and point out someone elses past flaws when you likely have your own doesn't speak to well of you. Let the boxers who wanna praise God do it, you don't like don't listen to the interviews, simple as that.

There are certain times when a man has to rough it out alone, boxings is one of them.

There's a multi-page thread on this called "You know what I would like to see?" on page 1 of Non-stop boxing...
