I always train with 18 oz. gloves but they much lighter on my arms and hands now. I had heard that 20 oz. gloves were available, but the heaviest I've ever seen were 18's.
ever heard of bag gloves???
Bag gloves? What are those? I meant what brand? Sorry I wasn't clear enough. I'm guessing people generally go with Grant, Everlast or Reyes. But are there differences? Does anyone favor one over the rest?
I'm pretty sure you're hands will move faster because of muscle memory, your body remembers how hard it was pushing to move the big glove, and you'll unconsciously put the same force into punches with the lighter ones, causing a faster fist. it's the same for punching with weights or running with ankle weights. you will move faster, but not forever, because your muscles will realize they don't need to put as much force in to get the same speed as before, and you'll slow down. i recommend gradually increasing glove size during training then use smaller gloves during the fight and you'll be trained to swing faster.
Thanks everyone. I've been training with 12 oz. gloves. I'm now thinking of getting some 16 oz gloves to hit the bag with. but what the freak do I do with my 12 oz gloves? I've been doing this for about a month and I guess these gloves helped me get through the "you want me to throw another jab?" phase of boxing. What gloves do people recommend for bag work?

It will feel like your faster but you wont be any faster.
I suppose you are right, I didnt fatigue as easy wearing 12oz as I did wearing 16oz gloves. My hands didnt feel as heavy though.
Does it help me in strength or speed? It helps my strength, does a little bit for my speed, nothing dramatic. It's mainly for conditioning my muscles.
If you want better conditiong speed and strenght use the bag more with useall gloves.
Wearing heawy gloves will make you feel faster but you wont be faster.

boxer-When you train with heavier gloves and then fight with lighter ones, youre hands are going to fly faster because, you have lighter gloves on.

Does training with the heavier gloves help more with strength or speed?
Well it will make you stronger but not faster.
The best is getting used to the size your fighting at. 10 oz in my case.

The biggest I ever trained in were 16 oz....
why on earth do you want that big gloves???
