poor guy... beaten black and blue all his life
Protected?
Protected from what? Or whom?
Him nor his people ever really proclaimed him to be anything more than what he was, a very winning, VERY busy fighter on the mid-west circuit. For the most part he was a step or two above the level of opposition that he faced & by fighting as often as he did, it earned him a pretty remarkable ( for the modern era anyhow ) record. And he & his people used the noteriety from that record to land some TV dates & some bigger fights.
Once he began to mix with the better level of opposition from outside of the mid-west circuit, he lost, but he usually gave a good account of himself in the process.
LMAO you could type false justifications all day long, and everyone would still believe he was the most protected fighter of all time. I thought Brian Nielson was.......this guy takes the cake.

Lot of people think Anthony Bonsante from the contender is a tuff fighter because he knocked out Brent Cooper
But Brent Cooper got beat by Reggie Strickland!
and in the rematch he got a draw!
So he had the chance to avenge it

The worst record would be whoever has the most losses, with ZERO wins...
Wow.
I'm really surprised by the lack of respect & knowledge here regarding these journeyman-trial horse opponents. Especially an honest pro like Reggie Strickland.
He's not a bum or a stiff or a tomato can. He's a guy providing a nessessary service in a rough, tough industry.Yeah, he makes a living, but that's about it. He's certainly nowhere NEAR "rich". Especially when you consider the amount of time that he spends on the road, the fact that he has no medical insurance & how many times a year he's probably ripped off by unscrupulous promoters who don't pay him or reemburse him for expenses, cut his purse when the gate isn't what they hoped for ( which for promoters is about 99.99% of the time, believe me. They'll plead poverty after a complete sell out! ) or just not pay him at all.
As for his skill level or supposed lack thereof, do you have any idea how good you actually have to be to fight as often as he does? The skills it takes to not take a beating or get knocked out?
If were were the human punching bag that many of you are ,no doubt, imagining then he'd have never lasted this long. Not even remotely close to this long.
And, Strickland's not a complete runner or a grab & hold artist either. If he always provided shitty fights do you think he get as much work as he does?
No, he's no Arturo Gatti when it comes to excitement either, but in his own way he's fun to watch. The man definitely knows his trade & displays his craft.
Now, not all opponents with really lousy records are as skilled or as honest in their efforts as Reggie is. FAR from it. There are quite a few who do just come in to lay down. But, Strickland's not one of them.
Boxing is a skill, something you get better at with practice (of course some are born with a talent, but you still need to perfection it)
The more you practice, the better you get…
What I want to know is how can you still SUCK after 200+ fights in the ring that you can't beat nearly a ‘nobody’
How much of a lowlife must their manager be Mr. Richard Christmas? But then again he must be decent to still get this guy sanctioned (AKA crooked as a dogs hind leg!)
He must be related to Lloyd Christmas

That is a horrible record indeed. I thought Bert Cooper was bad.
... Sorry for breaking in, but I'm sure my guy will surpass everybody in the next few years (today he is 0-13-0). Check my thread or site out:

;)
He may not have had good reflexes, good punching power, or excessive tendon strength. But that son of a bitch had an iron jaw.
edited: check Brent Cooper's record, right after the loss to strickland he fought him again, right after that ;-). "I demand a rematch! You COULDN'T HAVE BEATEN ME!" lol
What's even better about the fact that they rematched 4 months afterwards is that while Brent Cooper made the rematch his very next fight, Reggie fought twenty two times in that 4 month stretch going an impressive 2-19-1:eek:
Twenty two fights in 4 months it's a wonder how in the hell this cat can still stand, walk, and talk, let alone know who the fuck he is anymore! This dude is one of those fighters that (like his father) some commission will finally force him to retire, only then he'll probably fall over dead from the shock of not getting his ass kicked anymore!
yea. I think his pops must've showed him how to just run away well, because I don't see him getting punched repeatedly through 260+ bouts ;-) he is probably like a Greg Wright style, just moves around and pretty much plays a breathing punch bag
i think that reggie does it because he has found a way to make easy money by fighting every week and win or lose he is just there for the paychecks nothing more
What do you think of this record
