I don't know if I'm a little late with the announcement, but I recently read on boxrec.com that these two will fight on February 26. Here is the article..
Cotto/Corley Feb 26
WBO light welterweight champion Miguel Cotto will be at a press conference in Bayamon, Puerto Rico today to announce his next title fight, a defence against DeMarcus 'Chop Chop' Corley on Saturday, Feb. 26. Top Rank president Todd duBoef is in Puerto Rico and will make the announcement at the Salon La Cima, Parque de las Ciencias in Bayamon. Venue for Cotto/Corley is the the Ruben Rodriguez Coliseum. The fight goes out live on HBO After Dark
This will be the second title defence for Cotto who won the crown on Sept. 11. He stopped previously undefeated Kelson Pinto before 12,200 in San Juan.
In Cotto's first world title defence he knocked down Randall Bailey in the second, third rounds and stopped him at 1:39 of the sixth.
More Top Rank Notes
"Pretty Boy" Floyd Mayweather Jr. was sensational in his TKO 8 of Henry Bruseles in Miami on Saturday. Now Mayweather is poised to take on world champion Arturo Gatti provided he gets past Jesse James Leija this Saturday in Atlantic City, NJ.
Mayweather was in the Top Rank gym on Monday. He said the blueprint going into the Bruseles fight was "going to the body.
"We worked primarily on bodywork throughout training camp," Mayweather said. "Although my fights might look easy it's because I take my training very seriously. I've got the world's best trainer in Roger Mayweather and we work hard getting prepared."
It looks like "Chop Chop" is getting another chance at glory. Maybe he can pull out the upset, but if Cotto is as good as everyone says he is, he'll probably stop Corley late, even though Corley is a tough cookie..
DLT - a friendly wager.
i'll bet you all of my points to your points that this fight does not go the distance and that corley does get stopped either by TKO or by KO.
Deal but headbutts doesnt count
you do know that no matter what shots you can take in the head doesant mean you can take them to the body
cotto is a great body puncher and will finish chop chop with amazing body work
this fight wont last 10 rounds
You dont think that Zoo and Mayorga and Joppy do body work in sparring. and what about Chop's offense, he will land alot on Cotto
Power doesnt bother Chop, speed does. He has faced hard punchers and there power has never hurt him. He has sparred with Joppy and was a sparring partner for Zoo and Mayorga. Cotto's power will not shock him

Cotto will go for the KO to make a statement...
So you think he'll go "head-hunting" like your other fighter did and ended up getting beat up. I'd like to hear the excuse if Corley pulls out the upset..
Someone please tell my why Corley is still getting big fights? The guy is garbage. Its time for Cotto to start stepping it up.
Corley is not garbage, he's a B-level fighter (just like Arturo Gatti). I say both he and Arturo are equal. Yes, Gatti puts on exciting fights, but that doesn't make him a better fighter/boxer than Corley. As a matter of fact, Corley almost beat Zab so at least give him credit for that.
Corley is a tough cookie and won't go down as easily as Randall Bailey, but he will go down. If PBF can knock him down twice I'm sure Miguel can do him one better (except he won't get up from the last one).
Also, don't look for a PBF-Cotto fight until late 2006 at least. Both are with Top Rank and Arum won't let either of his cash cows face each other unless there is serious money involved. A year and a half and these two will meet.
Cotto is going to try an make a statement in this fight, as Mayweather recently fought him. I see Cotto breaking him down with body shots, and finishing Corley in the 8th.
yeah, Cotto is a biggger puncher than PBF is, though i don't think Chop Chop is as much of bum as some make him out to be, he's lasted against elite guys, lost by dec. the fact that he can survive in there shows something, that he's at least B level. the names he fights make everybody look bad, at least this time Cotto is going to get more of a test. i think he will try to knock Corley out to send PBF a message, but Cotto shouldn't get too cocky - i like the kid but if he ever gets a fight with PBF it's gonna be a huge step up in class for him after all these soft opponents. i can see Cotto having a lot of trouble against someone who's faster than him, who doesn't let him set the pace of the fight
Probably...I can see Cotto getting him out of there sooner than Floyd did. ;)
he'll stop Corely, not because he's better than Floyd, but he's stronger, and goes to the body extremely well.

hes no so much a test
as a lets see how long he last against cotto
they know hell win
but they just want to see if he can do it quicker den floyd
and maybe spark some "general" interest for cotto-floyd

If by "decent" you mean lost every round and was outclassed badly by both then yes he gave them both a "decent" fight.
lmao
well ya ofcourse
but he lasted couple of rounds
and against elite guys
yes that does mean a decent fight
its simple
he gave judah a decent fight
he gave mayweather a decent fight
and now they want cotto to blow him away

That's what im saying. Some people believe Corley is a good fighter. I wouldnt call him garbage. I'd say average is a little more accurate, and nicer :)
too true...hopefully cotto will be able to do what Mayweather couldnt and knock Corley out..I mean, really OUT! :D If so, maybe he wont keep getting all these chances; I get the impression he's being used as a 'test' of some kind for young cotto, although I dont think corley has much of a chance, if any, against him. He wont last long I dont think.

Corley is a high class average fighter. The only worth he holds is that he has faced one or two named opponents, his in turn makes his name hold some weight, not in quality terms but in recongnition terms. Cotto believe is still being brought along slowly. They aren`t gonna risk the golden goose until it lays one or two golden eggs out!
