Marco Antonio Barrera to Return on April 9!
By Darren Nichols
January 25, 2005 - When Boxingtalk caught up with junior lightweight emperor Marco Antonio Barrera, he told us that he would be sitting down with his people over at Golden Boy Promotions this week to decide his next move. After speaking with Golden Boy’s head honcho Richard Schaefer, he informed Boxingtalk that plans were being made for the Baby-Faced Assassin to return to the ring on April 9th. He did not want to comment on whom Barrera would be facing, since it could effect the outcome at the bargaining table, but Schaefer did inform us that he would be traveling to Mexico City soon to finalize plans for one of boxing’s most exciting fighters who is coming off his 2004 “Fight of the Year” victory over Erik Morales. REMEMBER WHERE YOU HEARD IT FIRST! (5:45 PM ET)
I think the only logical fight for this year is a Pacman rematch. There is no evidence thus far that the first encounters result would be differfent if they fought again but i think is the only way forward he must fight Pac again. However, for his April defence Barrera would be wise to fight his mandatory Fana, or a meaningful super feather, not a super fight till end of year, wait for the result of Morales Vs Pac man. I think Marco sghould stay at super feather as he seems to have a little bit more speed there than at featherweight!
