Diaz is a chubby 135 pounder with no power...ultimately he will get seriously hurt against the likes of Castillo, Corrales, Lazcaqno and Diaz.
He could easily cut 5 pounds and fight at 130 and probably start knocking guys cold, plus the bigger money is there too, this is a golden opportunity-rarely do you get too move down and fight for much bigger money!
Diaz could fight Morales, Pac, MAB, Anchondo, Famouso...etc and probably have an edge because of his size...plus a fight with Morales would be a payperview fight....maybe the only payperview opportunity of his life-and all he needs to do is lose five pounds...
What do peopele think...do diaz's people need to wake up and smell the money, not too mention protect there fighter from serious injury...it's an all in one deal, money-safety or less money and death...what do you guys/gals think?
I think there is a difference between starving yourself to make weight, and just toning yourself down to a point where you are solid. Juan Diaz has some bodyfat, and he could stand to lose 5 lbs. at least. IMO that wouldn't be cheating, just fighting at his natural "in shape" weight.
I dont like protected fighters, the more weight the better, why strave yourself just to be a champion? The best fighters pack on weight, not lose it.
What do you think of your boy Cotto? Does he starve himself? I guess you could say he packs on weight right? Where does Cotto fit in these words you speak?
Cotto is a guy that starves hismelf, cuts his weight as low as possible and when he steps in the ring he is twice the size of his opponents. Manny Steward siad that his frequent schedule allows him this luxury but it wont last long.
Iwatch, by your own logic how does Cotto fit here?
When are people gonna learn. If you went out on the street, would 5 pounds keep you from knockin people out? No it wouldnt. It comes down to skill;, heart,& stamina. If diaz cant knock out a 135 pounder, how will he knock out a 130 pound morales, MAB, pac, any of them. They been through wars with people who hit a lot harder than him
In a street fight 5 pounds does not mean shit but in a championship prizefight those 5 pounds can make all of the difference in the world.
5 little bitty pounds is the difference between taking a left hook from Corrales and having your face caved in or taking a left hook from Marco Antonio Barerra and thinking you are in a pillow fight.
Plus with Morales and MAB you get to fight on PPV and mkae serious money...fighting Castillo or Chico lands you on HBO and you make a fraction of the purse.
5 pounds doesn't mean shit huh...hmmm

Shame on you guys
Wow..I'm absolutely shocked at some of the posts on this thread...First let me just say that the Elder family
is a very spiritual, warm and devoted family that devote countless hours to church and community.Ebo takes
the time to go to area hospitals to visit with sick kids.He has the hart of a champion and conducts himself
like a champion should outside the ring. He's worked very hard in 04 to get where he's at.Ranked 4th by the
WBC is quite an acievement.I don't know if anybody on this thread has even boxed before but to be ranked that
high is something we can only dream of.As for Juan Diaz he's the WBA champion of the WORLD! no matter what anybody
here thinks of his talent.I look forward to the Elder-Diaz match-up.It's going too be a great nite for boxing...You know, let me just say one more thing here guy's, there is a lot of young people that use the internet to read about their heros...Remember when great hard working athletes were our Heros?
Ebo Elder won't be an easy fight. He's not a great fighter, but that is one tough little fucker. Did you see his last fight? Face swollen up so bad he looked even more inbred than normal,
LOL. That's a funny line. :p
Yeah, Ebo's a tough guy, did he sound a little "punchy" to anyone else last night?
Ha ha, hard to tell really! He always sounds a little 'funny' to me :D
Yeah, I know what you're saying, and I know he throws a high volume of punches any way you look at it. He just seemed like if he was in with someone that made a real effort to make a fight of it, he would probably run out of gas. It seemed like he would go all out, and then have to rest...go all out and then rest, like he was working the heavybag. So, I'm not trying to knock his punch output, he a good fighter, but IMO it seems like he's already as good as he's going to be.
I think Diaz should move down as well. He already gets hit too much, at least if he moved down, he might face some slightly shorter opponenents with less power, however slight the difference might be, and be able to make more money fighting the big names at 130. Besides, he looked soft in there, and the Canadian punching bag just made everything look worse. Did anyone else notice that there were a lot of spots in the fight where Diaz stopped punching? I don't believe that Billy's hook was hard enough to worry Diaz, he just stepped back because he was afraid of running out of gas.
I like Juan Diaz. His problem is he slaps his punches instead of the end of his fist.Diaz might have a little more power if he did use the end of his fist.
Ebo Elder is a very tough fucker as someone said earlier but he will never win a legitimate world championship...hte guy is a b level fighter at best...easy pickings for the top guys in the division, easy pickings!
Ebo Elder won't be an easy fight. He's not a great fighter, but that is one tough little fucker. Did you see his last fight? Face swollen up so bad he looked even more inbred than normal, beaten soundly for 12 rounds, yet still pulled out the KO in the last round.
If I were trying to prime a fighter in the lightweights, Ebo Elder is someone I would avoid just because of his toughness. He could really kill the confidence of a young fighter.
Are you kidding?
Elder would be a walk in the park for any top guy at 135 or 140. Yes he is tough and his fights are exciting, but they are exciting because he doesn't have the skill to seperate himself from his opponents and has to fight that way.
A win against Courtney Burton is nothing to brag about the guy is horrible especially when a fighter struggled so badly with him.

I saw that, and spent the remainder of the night wondering if the praying he did after the fight was for real, or for the cameras...that bugged the hell out of me for hr's  , not knowing which was the case!

I think scap makes the best case. He's a professional boxer. If he trains well, looses a few pounds, he might fair well. The weight loss isn't drastic either. And he gets to make more money.
I think his promoters know what they are doing with him. They know that he is not ready for Corrales or Castillo yet. I read that his next fight could be against Ebo Elder so that lets me know they are not trying to ruin him by matching him up with the fighters that he is not ready for. I also saw that he failed to make weight the first time around for this fight so maybe 130 wouldn't be easy for him to make.
I'm surprised with what everyone has said...really surprised..
So all of you would rather see Juan Diaz fight Diego or JL for 150K on HBO and get his face caved in as opposed to going after a payperview fight worth a cool million vs. Morales...hmmm
The volume puncher that Diaz is makes him the slight favorite against Morales in my book...HE has no chance of winning against Corrales or Castillo...no chance!
As a young champion with 2 defenses already under his belt he is going to have to step it up against other champions or top guys like Lazcano who want a title belt...I envision him becoming a David Ried or a Fernando Vargas...HE is so young yet he is a champion which is going to lead him into deep water sooner rather than later.
