"Our understanding at the time of our announcement was that all the championships would be contested," said Hennessy Sports head Mick Hennessy. "We have since learnt, however, that Bernard Hopkins is only prepared to stake the WBC title he has been mandated to defend." The fight was officially announced today at a press conference in Los Angeles. Hopkins holds the WBA, IBF and WBO crowns in addition to his WBC belt. hmmm..thats interesting! Its enough to make a person think that the 'oh so confident' Nard is actually concerned, even a bit worried about Eastman! Never thought I'd see the day that he showed public concern over any fighter..let alone a guy that alot of people rank as a journeyman! If this fight concerns him enough that he'd hold back those particular belts, I wonder what that is doing to his head? He has plenty of time to play mind games with himself and could end up putting on a much poorer performance than he is capable of..(just a thought, anyway)

It has alot to do with sanctioning fees and with the fact that Eastman is only mandated by the WBC. If he puts all belts on the line then the rest of the sanctioning dildo's could strip Hopkins of their title's. Don't worry people, Hopkins will defeat Eastman. This is the guy who lost to Mr Tomato can William Joppy. :D That is not good for Eastmans hype his loss to Sloppy Joppy. He has come on more since then fortunatly.

Maybe Nard wants to secure his next fight after Eastman. So if Nard loses he can put his other titles on the line in the next fight(probably megafight vs Tito). You see now we are getting closer to the real reasons. Bernard would hate to lose out on a megafight with Tito although if he does lose to Eastman fighting Tito would not be a good idea at all. :D He wouldn't want anyone else to get the fight he wants either. If Eastman goes out and beats NArd then he is the undisputed champ at middleweigt, there would be zero debate. Sure it's wierd to have him only defending 1 of his titles but we are all educated boxing fans on this site and most of us are worried about 1 belt-being the Ring Championship, therefore if Hopkins loses we all know who the champ would be...let the casual boxing fan be confused, not us. Good point there i'm just a little disappointed thats all. It doesn't come across as very confident to me.

It has to do with sanctioning fee's I think there is more to it than we will find out until fight night. Bernard is old and cannot go on like this for much longer. He is a rare exception in todays boxing world but all good things come to an end eventually.

i think it is true, people were debating about it yesterday. it kinda sucks, i wish nard would stake it all as the real champion he is. I wish he would too. If he was so sure then he would stake them all like a true champion should. I like Bernard alot but doing this pisses me off a little. Eastman will be a good fight as he is a natural Middleweight and has never been stopped or seriously hurt.
