the problem here is regulation, how do you stop it? i used to be a snooker player up to 1996 and betting was widespread among players. they would get a friend to put it on for them to avoid detection. never did it myself, you understand(!)
It is inethical in all sports to have their athletes bet. In cricket, a small thing like giving out pitch conditions to a bookie can get you banned. So the same should apply for boxing.
This is the same in all sports.
There will always be shady guys that are trying to get players to throw games and some get caught and some don't.
I wonder what would happen if a fighter was paid to take a dive and then ended up killing the other guy.
I would be the guy that set everythign up would be pretty pissed.
I think I may have seen this once. The guy sent two hitmen to go kill the boxer.
Does this sound familiar?
Bet on themselves? Drop a couple mill on themself? Don King does!
How would you stop them...Unless you completely get rid of betting on fights (which would be impossible) I don't see how you could.
Example: Hopkins bet five million dollars on favor of Eastman in their upcoming bout (not using his real, of course). Then he could fake his own defeat for easy win (in terms of money).
maybe oscar did that against hopkins.
