What do u think was the most hyped up fight in 2004
I'd got to say DLH-HOPKINS
i was watchin the commercial again n damn we need another fight with hype like that
I thought when an event falls far short of the pre-event hype, that it was a bad thing ?
"ThaGreatest" wants people to praise Hopkins-Oscar ?
Shit, it wasn't even a tactical fight....it was a TENTATIVE fight.
Spending round after round short-arming ALL of your shots because you're worried about the foe catching you is not tactical....it's nervousness.
Combine this tentative exercise with a pathetic, and/or faked, finishing blow - and at $60.00 a pop - & you have yourself a TRAVESTY.
If there weren't so many Oscar ass-kissers on here, this fight woulda been SLAMMED in the fashion it deserved.
It was a SHAM.
dlh-hopkins wasnt really overhyped cause it was a matchup everyone wanted to see.
The hype around this fight ensured "everyone" wanted to see it. Recall that there was broad agreement across the boxing scene that this fight had the makings of Hagler-Hearns? That's a direct reflection of how badly we were all in Hype Mode.
"Everyone" also agreed that there was a very good chance that Hopkins would simply be too big and strong for DLH. The smart money was definitely on Hops. This was almost a certainty going into this fight.
The Hype Machine had every angle, including "... what if it goes to the cards?". Who really thought that DLH was going to last that long against a bigger/stronger guy who we all knew would connect on Oscar?
Hopkins-DLH for sure. I hyped it up to all my non-boxing loving friends as a great fight and a must see so they'd chip in with me for the PPV. Afterwards they looked at me like I had sold them a defective VCR. How could I have predicted that the fight would be tactical.
Personally, I enjoyed it (esp. with DLH being knocked out and what not), but those guys wanted blood and guts and didn't get it.
uh
Klitschko-Williams? if it was so hyped why did hardly anyone order it
DLH-Hopkins people were talkin about it for months, it wasnt as good as i thought it would be but it was still worth it
dlh-hopkins wasnt really overhyped cause it was a matchup everyone wanted to see. not only did die hard fans want to see the fight but casual fans and first timers. i know the fight wasnt as expected but it did deserve the hype because it is rare in boxing now a days for two of the biggest boxers(in terms of fan support and skill) to get in the ring together. the most overhyped fight of the year was klitscko vs williams becasue everybody was talking about it and some thought that v klit would face a big threat in williams but the fight was lopsided and could have been stopped earlier.
remember that morning u wake up on sept 18th, and u know oscar and hopkins are bout to ented tha biggest fight, u had no idea oscar would go down to that bodyshot, then when the previews come on for tha fight u were just waitin for tha fight to start.
Don't mean to piss you guys but in the Philippines it's gotta be the pffft Pac- JMM rematch.
Bhop-hoya could have been a hype had hoya truly beaten sturm but it was a daylight robbery so I lost interest in his fight with bhop. Watched it though and the result made the robbery more blatant.
ya
Yeah, the DLH-Hopkins fight was, without a doubt, the most hype bout of 2004. Heck, it could probably take you at least five years. Thank god, as a boxing loyalist like many of ya, I didn't sank my teeth onto it.
And I kinda agree with Munn's post-fight. With Tyson-Williams maybe following in second.

Pre-Fight Hype: Hopkins-Hoya definitely the biggest hype-fest of 2004.
Post-Fight Hype: Trinidad-Mayorga. People actually decided that Trinidad had fought somebody, when in fact he had Mayorga come and stand in front of him.

I agree that fight was extremlety anti climatic, everything about it was watered down from the crowds energy to the fights to the ending.
