we all see VK's weird, yet effective style. Many have attributed these characteristics to his successful kickboxing career. There is obviously much more money and fame in boxing. Should we expect to see more boxers coming from that background in the future? Name some other boxers with that background as well. your thoughts..
why would it be good / bad?
Any way I would like some ppl to upload any of his Kickboxing fights.
I've been looking all over for those and can't find any, would be interesting to see at least his championship fights
the first round against sanders he was very close to being knocked down, and was badly stunned too
A lot of boxers get stunned in the ring - it's the natural effect of the other guy trying to kick the crap out of you. The fact that it didn't have any effect on the rest of the fight whatsoever makes the difference. Klichko was also stunned in the LL fight after that unbelievable uppercut and still went forward. I think Klichko's stamina is hugely underrated as well as his chin.
6 time world champion according to sources when searching.
I think kickboxing pasts will add to fighter's instinct, bodily movement, concentration of power, discipline, etc.
Actually Dorsey was at the same time kick boxing and boxing professional and was world champ in both...he fought kalid rahilou who also was was world champ in both at some point.
These guys are really skilled to be able to switch from 1 discipline to the other one depending on the upcoming figth! ;)
Nice. Thanks for the info!
I dont know honeslty, but to diverge a lil from the thread. I watched Williams/Klitschko last night for the 5th time and I just can't get it why ppl hate this guy so much. He is very exciting is very heavy handed. STAMINA IS NOT AN ISSUE. I did my own punch stats and in his last two fights vitaly averages 69 approx punches/rd and has about a 52% connect rate!!!!! HOW IS THIS STAMINA ISSUE. Also, he imeediatley begins to breath out of his mmouth from the opening bell, stupid because if he gets caught his jaw can be broken, but his stamina is fine. Plus he has the Highest KO rate of any of the heavies. I know alot of ppl say that in in shape lennox lewis would have schooled Klitschko, but I disagree, if Lewis fought his normal from the outside "safe" fight Klitschko would dominatr\e that fight IMHO. Lennox (I think) knew this and chose to brawl because he knew (or at least thought) he was like his lil bro and didnt like being pressured. I think If they rematch Lennox would choose his old style and Klitschko fights from the outside and dominates. Any way I would like some ppl to upload any of his Kickboxing fights.
VK KO/TKO over HR inside of 6
It depends if the kick boxer has a punch or not, or he has better kicks. Because Holland does not have a big boxing tradition, it is the other way around here. A lot of amateur boxers switch to kick boxing because in kick boxing one can make some money.
I believe IBF featherweight champ Troy Dorsey and the dutch contender Eddie Smulders were also kick boxers before turning to professional boxing.

VK was, I think, a 3 times world champion in kickboxing. He was one of the best there and that is why he is the best in boxing today. I think that his abilities and toughness made for his sucess in boxing more than the fact that he had previous experience in kickboxing. The guy was never even close to being KD in his whole career, that accounts for something. Also, I watched his earlier fights against lesser boxers and he was unbelievable - he was going for a kill from the first second of the fight. He is fighting smarter fights today, that's why people say that he has no punching power. For those who say that - watch his earlier fights and judge his punching power after. BTW, VK is in the world book of Guiness for the record of most KOs in the least amount of time in the world.
2 times as an amature and 2 times as prd, ive done kickboxing and i do boxing know and i can say that boxing is makes the kickboxers better but boxers dont gain anything from traininig kickboxing.

A homebrew boxer have far superior skills than a lot of the kickboxer out there. Though similar, it's still a different league, IMO. Even V.Klitch is not the best heavy out there in terms of skills.
Agreed, there is far too much emphasis placed on records in boxing. And although it can be a brutal career, I think there's also far too much inactivity nowadays. Most fighters are just after the big payday (but I can't say I blame them).
K1 is gaining fan support as is UFC. They are not currently at the level of boxing, but it is good that top fighters fight eachother more often than in boxing. As a result you don't see fighters that are 30-0 like you do in boxing.
Once the fighting mentality is there, you can be sucessful in any of the sports once you get your technique down.
I think taht if VK stuck with kickboxing, be would be very good at it, but definately not 42-2 or whatever he is.
