I searched the forum index and did not see another thread about this particular fight other than the one that is in that personal group (or whatever thats called) and as much as I appreciate the offer to join (and I do, very much ;) ) I'm hesitant to join any specific group since we can only join one. So, I saw no reason not to start another thread on this, cause I'm eager to hear everyones opinion on this fight! Come one, come all, lets debate! :D
I say Gatti, all the way. If his hand doesnt end up giving him trouble and/or he doesnt get cut in the wrong place at the right time, I can see him winning this one fairly easy. JJL is a good fighter, but I think he lacks the heart, determination (among other things) that Gatti has thru and thru
Your thoughts? :)
This should be a classic fight between to good veterens. really hard to pick a winner on this one but since gatti is on a roll i'd have to give it to him by SD
Gatti/Ward 3 was more of a brawl and the Dorin fight was turning into a brawl with Dorin come on and tagging Gatti until the bodyshot.
For 2 rounds Gatti landed his punches, sliped, turned and got out or stepped back. Never during the whole Dorin fight did he stand to trade punches or in any other way brawled. So except in your crystal ball maybe, the fight was not turning into a brawl. ;)
With ward 3 I remember Gatti to have stand his ground and brawled for 1 round only; the 4rd or 6th. (Nice! To be sure I have to watch it again :) )
Isn't Leija 38 yrs old? Gatti by decision....but it won't be easy.
Probably not! I'm pretty much in agreement with the general opinion....a blood bath with cuts and possibly an all out war. And atleast 5 to 8 rds, cause I know if he's forced to Gatti will brawl instead of box..its what comes natural to him so converting to it is realy easy (and I swear i think he likes it too!). I'm looking forward to it very much, and the undercard aint nothing to turn your nose up to either! All around a good night of boxing (brawling)
Leija is a tough veteran who will fight his heart out. Should be interesting for 5 rounds or so, but Gatti's power will eventually catch up to JJL. I look for a TKO for Gatti..around 7 or 8 rounds.
watch for cuts in this one..it will be a blood bath.
I think gatti will win, but it will be a war!
Jessie is no pushover by any means and it will be a tough fight.
exactly..thats pretty much what I'm thinking too! A good fight regardless

I think it will be a good fight indeed. Gatti in the ring mostly garantees thunder. :)
James Leija is a nice boxer (the first time I saw him fight was against Azuma zumzum Nelson), a veteran with still some fights left in him (Francisco Bojado).
Gatti will win the fight on late round ko, and it will be Gatti boxing with some brawls and with some moments for Leija.

If I made the millions of dollars Oscar makes, I would wake up feeling fine if I got hit by a truck, and so would everyone else here, but the pain from the punch was more than he could take, it was no dive, just a punch that landed in a vulnarable spot...
When he wins this fight eveyone who thinks he can't box might think a little different. He nees this fight to quite some people up about him not fighting anyone worth a crap.
If he wins this fight it won't be by outboxing Leija.

Man a truer statement has yet to be made than that last bit there! I dont think anyone thats tangled with Gatti woke up the next morning feeling all fresh and revitalized! Talk about sore and aching :D
I think Delahoya can say he woke up the next morning feeling fine.
I am a bit mythed at this statement of Gatti needing this fight. It is on paper a much easier option than fighting someone like Tsyzu or Mayweather. He is the favorite. However, i feel it is a keep busy fight before the mayweather fight, which would be a mandatory defense in the summer. Gatti has got little chance of beating mayweather so i think him earning a payday and keeping his title is a good idea before being fed to Floyd!
I think Gotti will win but either way it should be a very good fight. Gotti needs this fight and he always comes ready to fight. It will be a long night for Leija. When its over no matter what happens Leija is gonna know he was in a fight.
Explain how Gatti needs this fight?
Im curious.

I see Gatti winning this one, on points, not a ko. While both fighters have the heart, I see Gatti as the one who will outwork Jessie.
I look for this one to be very entertaining and most likely bloody, with the first cut opened before the Ring Announcer finishes the official introductions!
Gatti by split decision....
