I think Antonio Tarver is nothing more than a good lightheavyweight with charisma and a big mouth. I don't think he was ever that great though, I think people went overboard when he beat a Roy Jones. This is why he beat Jones:
A.) his style and rangy southpaw stance makes him hard to hit for Roy Jones.
B.)Roy doesn't have the reflexes anymore so Tarver being a good counter puncher just waited to hit Jones on his chin(jones always had a bad chin, its just no one ever exposed it until Tarver)
Bottomline in my opinion is that Tarver's style is just a bad style for Roy Jones, but against someone else Tarver's nothing more than average. Look at last night Johnson didn't have a glass jaw and he took Tarvers best shots, I don't think Tarver hits as hard as people say. When Roy beat Tarver the first time he should have never gave him a rematch because Tarver's style is all wrong for R.J. My point is that against other opposition Tarver's nothing more that a good/average lightheavweight with a big mouth.

Johnson sure made him look mediocre last night...It's kind of the same with how people said Roy Jones Jr. fought nothing but stiffs his whole career. I mean I don't think they were all A-class fighters, but alot of times, if someone isn't established, you fight them and deliver a dominating performance...they're going to say the person was never good.
yeah, Johnson made him look like what he is, mediocre
tarver is a good fighter not great but he is very good and dont count him out yet i think he still has some left in the tank.right now it seems he spent his whole career trying catch roy jones and was satisfied going 1-1 with him
exactly good but not great.
Tarver was nothing special.
Mooks i wanted to give you karma for your mighty fine ass but i've got to spread it about first so i'll let you know this way instead :D
Onto the subject :o Tarver is good but i think it's prob more to do with his style for Jones, and age creeping up on jones, and Johnson is on a roll at the minute, even his losing fights he's pushed the opponant all the way sometimes robbed of a win too so he's better than the record suggests, prob only got 4 true losses

Where is Forrest BTW?It's like he pulled a Floyd Patterson and is in hiding after losing twice to Mayorga.Who knows,if Tarver loses in the rematch,we may never see Tarver again(wouldn't be a bad thing:D )
He was supposed to fight a couple of months ago at 154 but he got hurt
I hear people say that and I dont buy that. I think Vernon is a top notch fighter. Mayorga is a bull, and he still might have won the second fight. Vernon could beat alot of top guys

No he wasn't. He's Vernon Forrest.

I've been trying to tell guys the whole time that Tarver and Johnson are solid fighters but nothing special and they are just living off of wins over a washed up RJ
