Vitaliy was able to KD Danny in round 1.
Mike (with then good knee) could not do the same.
I think Vitaliy is a better or as good a puncher as Mike is.
What do you think?
well williams faced them both and catagorically said Tyson hits harder but is not as accurate. (anymore)
It was the accuracy of vitali's shots that destroyed him no the one punch power a culmulative effect if you will.
at the end of the day you can punch as hard as you like but if you hit fresh air that hurts less than a jab on the nose let alone a straight right cross!
Iron Mike when he was young!!
Punching power is what an aging fighter keeps the most but well he's been quite shot for years now..
anyway Tyson was already his opponent before punching, just by his scaring hungry-angry look during the ref's instructions :D
I agree in part with an earlier post. I don't think we can answer this question until VK's punches have been tested on guys of the calibre that Tyson ko'd in his prime. It's all well and good saying that he shook up Lewis but he's not the first guy to do that, even Bruno did it.
At this point I think Tyson was capable of landing harder shots due to his speed but can't say who has the hardest punch outright.
Have you ever heard of a guy by the name of Trevor Berbick? That guy was the SAME calibre of fighter that Danny williams is. A prime Tyson KTFO'D Berbick in round 2.... ROUND 2.

that's fair; at this point we can only go with subjective interpretations

About the nature of punches that had put Danny down:
1. In Round 1, VK did not lend a single punch clean, but he still KD Danny
2. In Round 3, VK lended a single left hook and KD Danny
3. In Round 7, a single right hook send Danny almost through the ropes
4. In Round 8, a nice 4 punch combo KD Danny. TKO
Shot for shot....Tyson genertaes more power than Vitali...
But, Klit is a superior, smarter fighter at this point.
Tyson just throws & HOPES one of his bombs connects. Vitali has a purpose when he punches.
He has heavy hands....& knows he doesn't have to load up on his shots to do damage.
He'll just pick & bash you apart before you go.
I feel that Vitali is truly the harder puncher. I am thinking and I feel Vitali is. I feel that Vitali does not hit his hardest in one punch. He is very smart and punches the right punches that are necessary to win always. Vitali wants to always win and not just destroy the opponent early.
Also, Vitali knocks people out better than anyone else today. He knocks them out almost every time. He has 35 wins, and 34 knock-outs, I think that is better than anyone else.
I like this topic very much. I am so happy it was created, it is a very good topic to discuss.
I agree that it is Vitaly as well. The early Tyson was so raw that he was able to trow his hardest punches and could take better shots when he was out of position.
Vitaly can not take a shot as well, so he doesn't throw his hardest because of the possibility of taking a shot when he is out of position.
If they both hit one of those machines that measures power, I think that Vitaly would be slighly higher, but in the actual fights, Tyson hits harder, especially in the first couple of rounds.
well i did my best and i can punch 146 on the punching machines at the arcades... i'd like to see tyson go at it with a full run up.. i wonder if he can make it malfunction or max it out at 300...
power has very little to do with size, it's about getting your body behind the shot, and timing, knowing which punch to land at the right time. tyson has (had)? both of these. ask anyone who has sparred with him and they'll tell you. also in his prime tyson's speed also is superior to klitchko's, and as we all know, the hardest shots are the ones you don't see coming.
I'd still like to see them (and other top hitters) punch on a power meter like at an arcade... or better yet like the one Ivan Drago had in Rocky IV...
:D
That $]-[iT would be TIGHT!!!
it could be a new reality TV type sports type show on FOX..
Tyson is by far the harder puncher. If they fought today however, VK would wipe the floor with Tyson. To compare there fights against Danny Boy doesn't hold water. Tyson wobbled Danny bad, but due to his lack of abilty at this point of his career he couldn't follow up. VK hit Danny with a million freaking shots.
I do think VK is the class of the division at this point..but he is not a huge puncher. He is big and strong and throws nice combinations...imo
Tyson is a ball of pure energy and power. You know Tyson hits hard when you see grown men cry when they get hit. Remember the Golata incident. Or the the look on holmes face when he was getting pummled with those punches with nothing but bad intentions. PRICELESS
Tyson hits alot harder than VK. VK has a higher ko rating because of his level of competiton. Tyson had Williams crumbling in the 1st & he would've fell if Tyson had taken a step back instead of moving into him so he could bear-hug him.It was from a single upper-cut that Tyson had him hurt. VK is a cumulative ko puncher. He's got good power but not devastating power. Tyson could flat out stretch you with one punch if he landed & it didn't even have to be clean.
yup!!
that's why we need to get them to the arcade!!
play a couple rounds of Street Fighter II to warm up, then go to the punching power meter thingy...
it's the only way..
anyone know their phone numbers?
No, i think Tyson has better power but VK fights a lot better,
i cant remember seeing any on ounch knock downs from VK he has a lot of tko, still vit has a higher ko ratio than tyson,
im glad VK dident fight Tyson, Tyson would be beaten so bad.
heres the post on williams' website (sorry if its already been posted in this thread)
----------------------------------------------------------------
"Obviously I'm very disappointed that I didn't win the World Heavyweight Title but, God willing, I will earn another chance. I want to thank everyone who cheered for me in the Mandalay Bay Saturday night, especially the Brits who travelled so far, and want to thanks everyone who has written into the website to support me.
"Thank you. I wish I could have won the world title for you.
"Right now I am hurting physically and emotionally. My right eye is totally shut - it is very annoying and my wife keeps telling me not to touch it. My head and face - and my body - are sore and I'm looking forward to going away to Dubia or somewhere else hot for a nice holiday with Zoe and the girls.
"But I will be back - and I'll fight for another world title. I earned one chance by knocking out Mike Tyson, and I'll earn another. I'm not going out like this!
"I've never been caught like I was by Vitali Klitschko before. Vitali has unbelievable power in both hands. Mike Tyson hit me harder, but Klitschko was so consistent with his power I was shocked.
"I had a plan - to move and use my skills - but after the first round I couldn't use that plan. I was badly hurt by the first knockdown, my balance was all over the place, and I was cut and couldn't see well out of my right eye. From the first round on the plan was unusable because the knockdown took so much out of me. From then on I had to play with the cards I had - that's why I kept coming forward.
"I give Vitali great respect for a fantastic fight. He said it himself - it was the performance of his life. He's getting better and better and he proved a lot of people wrong - he most definitely didn't take me lightly. He was in great shape.
"I think that if I'd fought the Klitschko who fought Corrie Sanders in April I could have gotten to him late on but although he was getting tired and was breathing hard, his power never went away.
"I could have done better. My balance wasn't good because I kept taking a lot of shots - and so I just wanted to smash him with one left hook. Believe me, all the way through the fight I knew I could still win. I knew I could get to him right until the referee stopped it.
"I understand the referee's decision, but I would have continued. I would still be there fighting right now."
