I thought it was a very entertaining fight. Jirov looked very
impressive in the early rounds to round 7, peppering Moorer's
face with the jab and hitting him with tough body shots. After
Jirov got cut he stopped using the jab and Moorer came to life.
When Moorer finally got on the offensive in the 8 and 9th rounds
he looked very sharp and punches found a home on Jirov's jaw!
I was impressed with Moorer's defense and movement in the early
rounds but I was unimpressed with his lack of offense. Overall,
a very entertaining fight with two sort-of big name fighters.
The only thing I thought was bad about the broadcast is Tom
Arnold's stupidity. Why on earth would they show him scoring a
boxing match when he doesn't know the first thing about boxing.
thats very close to the way i saw it. tom arnold should stick to movies and stay away from boxing. at least i can choose not to see a movie but i'll be darned if i'll miss the fight!
Please reread my post. I didn't utter the word "impossible".
sorry dude your right i was tired whe i read it. jirov wanted to keep the pressure on even though his hands were tired. it was definately not a good idea.
That was a pretty retarded comment especially since he was sitting next to 3 big African-American guys(Toney,Byrd,Sally)What a effing buffon Arnold is! I think the only reason why they have the guys from BDSSP is that they attract their viewers to watch the boxing broadcasts. Other than that I would much rather see Sean O'Grady and his partner(dont know his name) do the whole fight and maybe also Max Kellerman.
I agree...I've never been a fan of Tom Arnold anyway, and having to sit for 35-40 min's and listen to the opinions of someone that knows less about the sport than I do is not my idea of "good boxing coverage" The other guy I think is Barry Tompkins (or something like that) and they may not be as high class as HBO and Sho..but I've always liked them just fine. Having Grady (and ex-champ) commentate compared to Arnold (an ex-actor..possibly an ex-jock??), I'd say Grady is more knowledgabe of the sport and the way it all works, etc.. so I prefer him anyday! ;)

finally! I was waiting to see if anyone else had a problem with Arnolds 'techniques'. He apparently tries to score fights the way theyre "supposed" to be scored by the judges (that what he says anyway) and he did the same thing during the Toney-Booker fight. I understand what he's getting at, just dont necessairly agree with him, and he's yet to say anything that made me think he knows much about the sport! I also thought his comment "I'm going with the white guy" was a bit crude, and if it had been anyone else at all that had said that alot of hell would have been raised.

why is that impossible? it happens to EVERY fighter. the distance issue was so he could lean on him. maybe not but the way jirov fights, coming forward, doesn't work when you have to drop your guard because your arms are too tired to keep your gloves up.

It's possible, but if I were tired I wouldn't keep the distance so close between myself and the other fighter.

in a fight that was dominated by jirov moorer pulls off the ko. any one else see the fight. any thoughts?
i only have one thought about this... FUCK! now i'm glad TSN didn't carry the fight. SoundT, i'm gonna start calling you Nostradamus
his gloves prolly felt like 100lb sand bags. thats why he dropped his guard. he was getting tired and couldn't hold them up.

Jirov can dominate at cruiserweight. I think he went up to heavyweight in search of bigger paydays. I guess that's not going to happen now.
i understand the bigger payday, but like you said, that probably wont happen. We know at curiser he'll get fights, so that money would be better than none at all I'd say!
Thats what I kept thinking while the fight was going on...he was better at that weight and isnt really use to the power some heavy wts. have. He did very good and other than one or two rd's I had him outboxing Moorer til he got caught. I didnt think he was gonna go down at first, but it was definately a delayed reaction

It was high on his head around the eyes. Maybe Jirov needs to go back down to cruiserweight.

I don't think it was just one punch that took Jirov out. Although Jirov was winning throughout most of the match, each time Moorer hit Jirov on the face, Jirov's head snapped back, almost every time. During the 9th round, Jirov for some reason kept moving towards Moorer with his gloves really low. Initially, I thought he did that because he was going for the KO and Moorer's punches weren't having an effect, but then Jirov was getting a little wobbled during those last few exchanges. He either needs to work on his defense, and/or move down a weight class.

shit I just lost a lot of pts ! :(Lost some of what you gave me on that too, pal!
Good thing Jirov is the bigger loooooooooosssssssser! At least that's how I see him. :)
First Toney; now, Moorer! Hey, anyone, don't get Jirov near any old folks' home!
Or, Vander, meet Jirov! ;)
So could this set up a toney - moorer fight,
perfect for toney.
he fights a heavy with a name but doesnt have to risk
the big guys , v-klit , ruiz , byrd , golota , brewster
and any other contenders like rahman and meehan.
Moorer gets a shot at a name too and will improve his
chances of a title shot with a win.
that might be a good fight. but i would be more interested in moorer actually taking it seriously and stepping up his game. he has alot of potential. toney would prolly win if they fight. they can both be very dangerous.
