Floyd Mayweather Jr., thought to be pound for pound either 1 or 2, has selected a perfunctory opponent as his next test: Henry Bruseles. Bruseles, 21-2 (13 KO), is a Puerto Rican fighter who has no recognizable names on his record. The fight is scheduled to take place January 22, 2005 in Miami, Florida. This fight is simply a Roy Jones-esque showcase so one sided, I would've sworn Don King was his promoter. This is not the way to make your case as pound for pound the best. No word on if HBO will elect to broadcast the contest.
he'll fight gatti next summer. this is just a mark time kind of fight, with gatti fighting at the same time it gives them the same time to prepare. i admit this guy is'nt the best fighter floyd has faced but it's not the worst tune-up fight ive seen. the last thing floyd needs is to fight a hard fight like the burton/augustus fight and break his hands again.

:) :) :)
I could take this one as a tune up for a bigger fight in the near future. Some great champs have their tune up fights once in a while.
ya he def isnt goin to be an easy fight
he has dangerous power
and even more dangerous he can still get the ko if he goes down
but i still see mayweather taken a decision here
If HBO does broadcast I cant wait to see what Larry will say to Floyd after the fight. I know everybody remembers Larry after the BHOP/Hakkar fight.
I seen Bruseles fight before, he isn't some totally garbage fighter, he looked good in his last fight...I watched that one, but it was cut short..
Floyd's the TRUTH

Of course HBO will broadcast, they're building up for the "showdown" with Arturo Punching Bag Gatti. Floyd's taking the RJ route though, that's for sure. Hey, why fight a great fighter for $10mil when you can get $2mil for slapping around sissies named Henry? It makes perfect business sense, all praise to Top Rank and Floyd for taking the correct business route. SacTown1
Who else can he fight? Hatton wont fight him. Arum's not going to put Cotto in with him yet. Theirs not enough money for the networks to cross up for a Zoo fight. The only guy he can fight is Harris and if he does that then he loses the #1 ranking in the WBC for a big money PPV fight with Gatti, and trust me if Gatti doesnt have to fight him then he wont. When he had the other list of N'Dou, Johnston, or Abdullev, nobody wanted that either. Theirs no one for him to fight. If you want to say Branco then go ahead but it's not like he has a chance to win anyway. How come Floyd never gets a past. This guy has one of the best resume's out there. All these cupcakes these other guys have faught. Dont make me call out these other guys opponents because hardly any of them will stand up to Floyd's.
Bruseles is just another handpicked opponent to make Mayweather look good. Why is he waiting around for Gatti when there are so many big names at 140 to fight.Maybe its because Gatti's style fits Mayweather the best.
Maybe he wants Gatti because he has the WBC belt!?!? Isn't the WBC the most regarded belt, besides the Ring Champ? I'm a Mayweather fan but I really hope he can step this shit up so that we can see some good fights soon. It seems like all the talented fighters at 140 are avoiding each other.
in defense of henry .... 1) he is not that bad, he had a really good amateur career 2) has a really mean right hand 3) his 2 losses we're highly disputed, the ref stopped one contest cuz of a cut or something and the other he got shafted in a very pro-mexican venue and 4) and this is for you jose - hes boricua. :D
henry KO2
no bias here.

Who else is he supposed to fight? It's not like theres a lot of guys willing to fight him.I'm not a big mayweather fan but i can't think of one fighter willing to fight him right now.The guy is good and if you got a lot to loose fighting floyd is not a good idea.Gatti would lose on points and we all know it.Might be a good fight but why would he take it when he's doing just fine on his own
yea this is bad. He could have fought someone like branco or someone with a little credibility for a tuneup but this is just horrible. I hope HBO doesnt broadcast.
Floyd needs to fight someone good soon or he is going to lose his respect from me. He has to let the Gatti fight go and realize his team does not want this fight.
Its not Floyd's fault. Floyd moved up and Arum postintioned him for a fight with Gatti by having him fight Corley and getting him ranked #1 by the WBC. Gatti's people talked it up like they wanted the fight and then when the fight was in there face they ran away from it.
I wouldnt be surprise if Floyd waited around for this and Gatti ends up vacating. Floyd would be fucked and pissed then
