what exactly is a cruiser weight? If jirov was cruiser champ and lost to toney and both are now hw, who is cruiser weight champ? is there a cruiser belt? Do you have to move through cruiser weight to compete in the heavy's? Just curious with all the talk of the hw division lacking i think that the cruiser division would hold some good fights with some of the smaller heavies and bigger light heavies ie: Tarver, RJJ, Jirov, Toney. Some of these fights have already occured and some haven't but all good fights. I'm missing some knowledge and some names but whats wrong with the cruiser division does it exist? Why is it so obscure?
thanks for the clarifications and info. still i can't beleive RJJ skipped over 4 more belts, but i gues when you have had a few dozen of them whats 4 more.
where did you get that? I like Mormeck and I think he really injured his leg (achille tendon I think) in training. Braithwaithe is a loud mouth for me. But this will be an excellent fight cause those two can box and punch

Oh man, you're so correct. I have said almost the exact same thing more times than I can count.
The Braithwaite - Monmec fight better go off as scheduled this time. Braithwaite accused Monmec of ducking him last time (though I suppose of course he's going to say that).
Rumor has it that Monmeck was knockout in sparing by a middleweight and supermiddleweight does anyone know if this is true?

The big money is in the heavyweights.
The cruiserweight is sometimes also called jr heavyweights.
Holyfield was the first to unify the cruiserweight tittle.

The cruiserweight or light heavy weight as it also called, is for smaller heavies that cannot make it in the heavy weight or people still growing (in the road to the heavy weight)

Holyfield was the first man to unify the light heavyweight title I believe before becoming a succesfull heavyweight fighter.

The cruiserweight division is from over 175lbs to 200lbs. The last three cruiserweight champs (you named two: Jirov, Toney, and there's one more an undefeated Juan Carlos Gomez) all have moved to HW. Their are cruiserweight belts from the same governing bodies as every one else (WBA, WBC, IBF; etc.) No, you don't have to go through cruiser to get to heavy, RJJ won the WBA HW belt from John Ruiz last year and has never fought at cruiserweight. The current crusiserweight champions are: WBC champ Wayne Braithwaite of Brooklyn, WBA champ is Jean- Marc Monmec of France (these 2 have a bout sceduled for 1-15-2005 for each other's title) IBF champ is Kelvin Davis from the USA, who will defend againist top contender O'Neil Bell from the USA (who owns a KO win over Davis) on the same card, last but not least the man regarded by many, as the best cruiserweight out their WBO champ Johnny Nelson of England. I don't know why this division is so overlooked. Their are some good fighters at this division. The man that is regarded as maybe the best cruiserweight ever, went on to become become 4 time heavyweight champion. I believe his name is Evander Holyfield.
