One of my buddies in the other site was listening to ring talk live world wide last sunday as they were discussing the aftermath of the Morales vs Barrera fight when Larry Merhcant was asked by the host Pedro Fernandez to rank the featherweight division. Larry Merchant said, "in my mind, pacquiao is still no.1 among the featherweights, barrera is second with marquez right with him and then morales." That's something coming from the godfather of the hbo boxing especially mb & em being hbo fighters.
Why would Larry (a veteran in the boxing world) consider Manny as his No. 1 featherweight? For me: maybe Manny for him is the most talented and explosive of them all.
Manny won the fight with Barrera in devastating fashion. Barrera had been the best featherweight. Manny immediately took on and, if not for wild incompetence on the part of a judge, would have beat the highest ranked contender in Juan Manuel Marquez. It's pretty simple, actually.
manny is great..but not number one..and sure as hell not pound 4 pound anything (yet atleast)..i mean he couldnt finish off JMM..if he beats JMM and then EM and mab..which he has stated he wants all 3..then i have no problem saying he's a p4p guy..but right now..hell no...he's just good
Exacty, Imtired of plp saying manny is the best blah blah nobody can take him blah blah blah, he needs to prove himself over and over and he hasent done that yet. Personally i htink Barrera had an off night and he will beat pac if they fight again.
not being able to beat JMM..realy made everyone think.."what if mab really wasnt at his best that night"..so get me the rematch will answer a lot..and the JMM rematch will also
Bahhh I hate the fact that we'll have to wait 3 months for JMM and probably 6 for MAB.

ok, so what would you make off the barrera win?

manny had no titles to begin with. it was jmm with the titles. all manny has is a a magazines title of peoples champ. jmm and mab actually have belts. manny had his chance at a few belts as a recall but a bad choice in socks cost him the belts.
Manny has been champ in two different weight divisions already. But you know what Alphabet titles dont mean shit. Harrison has one but no one is convinced he is elite.
There is no doubt, he the #1 Featherweight right now. However, I still think Erik Morales can beat him.
But Morales isn't at featherweight. He's at super feather. And it would be interesting to see what he does next after his loss to Barrera. Same for Barrera too, what does he do next? Stay at super feather and defend, move up (not likely), or go back to 126?
I have Pac and Marquez tied as #1 in the Featherweight rankings, since they didn't quite settle things in their last bout (but it was a F.O.Y. at least). Pac got the slight edge on quite a few of the observers cards as did Marquez, it was close;
At least Manny had the drive to keep on the offensive, most fighters going against Marquez are frustrated by his counter-punching up to the point that they resign themselves to a pact of non-aggression. Not so for the flamboyant power-puncher, he took the fight to Marquez until the end, and Marquez did what he had to do by countering his charges. I got my money's worth on that fight (since I bet on a draw)
I have respect for both, but I'd need to see the next few months before I change my rankings. Barrera doesn't count here, unless he moves back down, he's #1 at Super Feather (since Morales beat two of the top 130s to gain the WBC and IBF straps, and Morales was decisioned by MAB).
I don't see how the 'magazine's belt' is any less significant than the alphabet title belts JMM has. At least The Ring makes an effort to be unbiased.
ahahahahaha! thats rich! you get an a for effort. good karma for a good laugh.
manny is the #1 featherweight. barrera was considered the king of the division. manny beat the king, you dont lose your title in a draw. manny is #1

well i thought marquez won. and dished out a boxing lesson.
if marco was the man at 126 why werent they fighting for the undisputed titles?
So marquez is rthe number one featherwieght in my book, been the champ longest most defences beaten the most "names" there.
also MAB nor morales have beaten the current incumbant Marquez, so a huge argument can be made for marquez being the linear champ as he has been at the top the longest. Aint his fault that mab vacated.
one win and a loss, oops sorry, draw, do not make you the number one featherweight of all time, nor in the world, nor even in asia.
Im not fully convinced pacman would beat the monster at feather that is Injin chi.
he still has a lot to prove.
All in due time....its cool to be a skeptic beacsue you get pleasently surprised.

He drew on the judges cards. I thought Pacquaio won the fight.
If not Pacquaio, who SHOULD be #1 featherweight?
The only other person you can consider at this point is Barrera and as I have pointed out, Pacquaio already beat him.

Pac has the ring belt AND he beat MAB who was the man at 126.
True, but drawing with JMM after such a huge comfortable lead is far from impressive....I guess it just all depends on what kind of socks you have on..
