by Paul Upham: During a media conference call on Tuesday to promote his fight with Jermain "Bad Intentions" Taylor on December 4 on HBO's 'Boxing After Dark', three-time WBA middleweight champion William Joppy called Felix "Tito" Trinidad a "cheat".
After the Puerto Rican great (pictured) was forced to re-wrap his hands prior to his only loss to Bernard Hopkins at Madison Square Garden in September 2001, 34 year-old Joppy 34-3-1 (25) said that he doesn't count his 5th round knockout by Trinidad in May 2001 as a loss on his record.
"I don't even count that fight," he said. "He bought a bat to a fist fight. He cheated. I don't care what you say, to all you writers, Felix Trinidad should not be in the Hall of Fame, even though he'll make it to the Hall of Fame. There should always be a question mark behind his name. He's a cheat. When he fought Bernard Hopkins, Bernard Hopkins exposed him."
In the dressing room before the Hopkins-Trinidad fight, one of Hopkin's cornermen who was witnessing the wrapping of Trinidad's hands complained to officials and Trinidad's father was made to un-wrap his son's hands and re-wrap them again.
"Trinidad's dad wouldn't let him come out to the ring unless he could wrap his hands the way he wanted them to be wrapped and that was illegal," said Joppy.
It is asinine to think that Trinidad could generate that sort of vicious power simply by wrapping his hands another way. No two trainers wrap hands the same way.
Additionally, as noted by another on this thread, Hopkins' trainer did later mention that it was all a bunch of crap to get into Trinidad's head. In the end, Trinidad couldn't knock out Hopkins because Trinidad could not hit Hopkins, period.
However, Joppy, who blocks most of an opponent's punches with his face, presented no such difficulty. He got his ass thoroughly kicked that it has never been kicked. Trinidad owned him and made him his little geisha girl. Why? Because Trinidad hit him very, very hard in the face. It goes no deeper than that.
Joppy has no chance.
I think Wright or even Mosley would soundly beat him.
He is only taking this fight for the $$$.
It completely agree!
Joppy has no chances!!!
Fair comments, man!
Would you change your opinion if he beat Joppy...Joppy is a decent enough test, after all, being only one fight removed from an undisputed title challenge?

I am rooting for Joppy on December 4 but he is talking crap about my favorite fighter and that just shows that the guy is a true sore loser. He should just let go or otherwise see a psychiatrist to stop the nightmares about Trinidad being a racket and Joppy a tennis ball.
I dont know why joppy is crying. Except for the third round joppy fought with his hands at his waist. I think anyone could have knocked out joppy the way he fought.
i also agree with joppy
it isnt any coinsdence that in a fight where he was made to wrap his hands correct
his power wasnt as dominant
same thing happened with naz against mab
he was made 2 wrapem right
and he was able to hurt mab
discracful by both
not 2 say neither had power
it was just increase by illegal hand wrapping
I personally don't think that you can attribute all of Tito's power just to the way he wraps his hands. He simply throws punches with excellent technique and because his arms are long, he gets a shitload of leverage. If you watch the tito fight, when he did land his shots he did hurt Hopkins, it's just that Hopkins fought the perfect fight and didn't let Tito hit him hardly at all. As well as this, Hopkins was simply physically bigger than Tito, so his shots didn't have the effect they normally have. To say that he doesn't have power is bullshit.
Joppy just has sour grapes...I hope Taylor murders him.
