Pacquiao the Greatest Boxer in Asia?

It's a shame our access to the likes of Sahaprom and Wonjongkam is limited to downloading old clips of them. Us Westerners are naturally going to plump for known quantities and rate PAcquiao as the best. Ring Magazine even rates Marquez above Sahaprom. I just wish we could get them all together to fight. And get to see it on TV. Black

This is my take, will all due respect to mai.pen.rai.krap and muay_thai of course. In order, the 3 Great Asian Boxers of today are: Manny Pacquiao Yodsanan 3k Battery Pongsaklek Wonjongkham Now, is Manny greater than Flash Elorde or the great Pancho Villa? No, not yet at least. But I'm betting that he will in the next couple of years be recognized as the Greatest Filipino fighter ever, and yes, perhaps the Greatest Asian Fighter that ever fought :)

Looks like he has the edge when it comes to experience over RMarquez (29-3, 27KOs) though Marquez appears to have the bigger wallop. On paper, it should be one to watch! But I'm left wondering why Sahaprom--with all those successful outings-- has not figured (to my knowledge) in any P4P list, while Rafael, a comparatively more recent champ, is on some. Sahaprom first won the WBA Bantam title from Daorung Chuvatana, but lost it in his first defense to Nana Kunadu (TKO 2). He regained it from Joichiro Tatsoyushi (KO6) and among what subsequently became a long string of defenses, was one to the same Tatsoyoshi (KO7). The two draws on his record were both to Toshiaki Nishioka whom he met 4 times! He won both of the remaining two bouts. If Sahaprom had names like Austin, Bredahl, etc. on his CVitae, perhaps, even RING will be frothy with praise! As it is, all his accomplishments are easily overlooked. Sad! :o Rafael is hugging the limelight at Bantam! They ought to meet! Soon! Sahaprom is already 36 years old! As for Yodsanan (3K) Sor Nanthachai, I must confess that I believe the jury's still out with him. He has a 43-2-1 record but his two losses were KOs, weren't they? In 1994 to Thai compatriots? Besides, his only opponent that rings bells in the international boxing scene is Steve Forbes whom he defeated by UD12 at the Foxwoods Casino, which seems to me to be his only fight staged outside Thailand. I'll just have to sit out forming an opinion on Yodsanan for now,buddy, if you don't mind. :) Btway, pal, thanx for the karma points! :)

Sahaprom! :o I plead guilty, buddy, for committing the mortal sin of overlooking those little GREAT guys! :) That makes me another one of those who always exclude the lower weights in the pound-for-pound lists...Sorry! Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa! :) Having said that, let me add, though, that Manny has won championships in three different weight divisions and would have been seen as dominant had he met and been given the chance to beat Ayala at Jr. Feather, which, I think he could have done, given that, though Paulie has never been knocked out, he was easy to hit-- was willing to take some to give some. Manny's poower, as subsequently seen in the MAB and Marquez fights, is too much for a Jr. Feather, whether his name is Ayala or Bones Adams or... :) yeah, i must admit that Pac's power is too much for jr. feathers.

I don't see any other asian in the pound-for-pound lists, so Pac has got to be it, unless one counts the Russian-turned- Aussie, Tszyu, asian. Those who do can raise good points, e.g., Tzyu's record of only one loss is better than that of Manny, Kotsya's last outing (vs. Shamba) was decisive, Manny's meeting with Marquez was not; Tzsyu has had better opposition and has been dominant in a talent rich division while Manny has had only two world-class fights as a featherweight (MAB and JMM), etc., etc. ;) Chi vs. Pac? a humdinger! :D

Chi Vs Pac.. this fight should be good.. A boxer who can take power shots Vs a boxer who throws power punches.. will this fight happen in the future? Money wise, i dont think so but this fight would hit big in Asia.
