over at fightnews.com there's an interview with arum... in it, he states as long as they win their next fights, gatti will be facing floyd in june in a "blockbuster" fight... i can't help but think that gatti has no chance.... i seem to recall ivan robinson boxing his ears off twice and since that time they haven't let gatti near another "boxer"... i'm sure gatti will come in huge(150 lbs) the night of the fight and i'm sure mcgirt will have him ready, but will that be enough???
Yeah I'd love to see it ... They better make it through their "tune-up" boughts. I'd go with Floyd by UD but would love to see a KOs by either fighter.
Boxing works but now his contract is up. He wasnt filling up the seats because he wasnt exciting and now you see HBO isnt trying to give Floyd shit but chump change. Sure he could still get big fights, but the difference is if he brawls and the fans like it then more people will come to his fights and more people will by PPV. He could have a big fight now for 3 million but if he brawls then he could have that same fight for 6 million and so on and so on. Why do you think Gatti makes all that money.
Like you said, brawlers like Gatti may get more money and are on PPV...but when they lose because they don't box, then it all goes away.
I would love to see Mayweather and Gatti have non-stop action...don't get me wrong. And I know Mayweather wants his money, but he has to be worried about losing and not getting any. Not that he is going to lose against Gatti...
There is also a big difference between what the fans want and what they get. Fighters want to please the fans, but boxing is still a business. If you win, business is good. If you lose, the big fights fade away, and so does the money.
Mayweather's far enough along in his career where he doesn't have to worry about his fans as much. He has them. Instead, he has to worry about getting the big fights, and that means sticking to with what works: solid boxing skills + solid defense = wins.
Training may somewhat transform Mayweather into a more offensive fighter, but when it comes down to it, instinct is what takes over in a fight. Some people are aggressive (Gatti) and some are defensive.
If he loses his fight with Gatti because he tries to get into a huge brawl, it doesn't matter if the fans are pleased.
Man you must dont know Floyd. The number 1 thing he cares about is money. Boxing works but now his contract is up. He wasnt filling up the seats because he wasnt exciting and now you see HBO isnt trying to give Floyd shit but chump change. Besides people assume that if he brawls then he will get KO. I dont agree. You can still box without moving so much. He will still have that great Defense, great hand speed, and great accuracy. Floyd will still dominate Gatti going toe to toe. People make to big of a deal about the Corley fight. Chop is a lefty. You could have your D perfect and they still hit you right on the chin. It's not the power that hurts you. It's the unexpecting. Pac Man doesnt hit as hard as people think. It just hurts way more cause he's a lefty. I saw Barrera fight like he always does. When Pac swung Barrera side stepped perfectly but because he's a lefty he hit Barrera right on the chin. Samething in the Marquez fight. Thats how Sanders ruined Wladimire. Its hurts way more because either you dont see it or you see it and you have perfect D and they still hit you on the chin
This will be his 1st PPV fight, and if he doesnt give the fans what they want then it will be his last, but he knows if he goes toe to toe he can become a attraction that he could even take some of Gatti's fans for his next PPV event.

What do you mean by this?
Remember that KT was still somewhat young, he fought a man in Vince Phillips that night and he gave Vince a pretty goo beating that night, problem was that a fighter like Vince Phillips at that stage in his career was willing to go to hell and back to win, and thats exactly what he did.
There is no way that PBF is willing to do that, there is just no way!
What are you talking about? Zoo was almost 27 years old. How can you say that Floyd isnt willing to go to hell and back. He's an undefeated #for# fighter who has fought some of the best.
Floyd will not be boxing anymore like he use to. His father raised him be a defensive fighter, but his uncle Roger is a offensive teacher and Floyd has finally broken threw. It takes a while to get offensive after you have been defensive your whole life. It's a hard transition, but now that transition is complete and I think he likes being more offensive. If you think he's going to be moving alot against Gatti then your crazy. This will be his 1st PPV fight, and if he doesnt give the fans what they want then it will be his last, but he knows if he goes toe to toe he can become a attraction that he could even take some of Gatti's fans for his next PPV event.
What he says and what he does will be two completely different things.
I don't see why he would change his style, which has been so successful. I don't even think he can reprogram his style to become more entertaining anyways. If he starts brawling with Gatti, and is losing, there's no way he won't return to his boxer style.
Besides, to boxing fans who appreciate a solid "boxer," PBF fights are always entertaining.
well if its a ppv lets not forget mayweather said he wont fight boring anymore, which means he will try to knock gatti out or make it into a war, and if its a war. And if its a war i think gatti has a very good chance of winning.
PBF will outbox Gatti, but it won't be a huge blowout. Gatti has improved, but not enough skills to take out PBF.
Also, Gatti, who has made fights more difficult than they should be, still has to get passed JJL, who isn't completely done yet.
He and PBF should both win though, as long as they don't look ahead to June. Hope this fight happens because everyone wants it.
Like Zoo got destroyed by Phillips

floyd's a pussy, unfortunatly gatti has been in one too many wars to probably beat floyd in june, but id love to see Tzsyu kayo his cocky ass, the guy is a scumbag out of the ring too, i still give gatti a punchers chance though, you guys wait, floyd will get destroyed in 2005 by somebody, dont know if gatti will do it, but he has it coming
Like Zoo got destroyed by Phillips
No, DLH had power at 140lbs, Mayweather dosen't.....or at least hasn't shown much. Mayweather has never been what you call a "dominating" type fighter. He is slick and hard to his....confuses his opponents, dosen't overwhelm them with power.
Depends what you mean by dominating. I can say that he dominates fights even though he doesnt overwhelm his opponents with his power. He's close to pitching shutouts in his fights. That's dominating for me.
I agree with you almost entirely about Hopkins and Floyd. Hokins has played it safe and so far Floyd has taken risks, I respect the hell out of that! I would ide to see Bernard in a fight where you knew his opponenet was coming at him to hurt him, ie-Tarver, Calzaghe, LAcy)I am afraid that this will never happen. Floy has a loss in my book, there is no way he got the dedison against JL Castillo the first time, I think Floy could rip up a lot of the 140 division however I think KT is not someone that he will call out. Forget about the networks not allowing thqat fight for a second. KT is the best ofgfensive fighter in the divsion, not question! He is bigger, faster stronger than Castillo as well. Floyd still strougled with Castillo the second time around, there is little chance in my mind that he beats KT. Anyone else he has too be the favorite.
Again you are dead on about fighters like Floyd taking risks, many people on this site talk shit about Floyd, Zab, Fernando, Oscar, Tito, Jones Jr, MAyorga, Mosley etc. They bitch and moan when these guys move up in weight and are not as effective ( I am guilty at times as well). The simple fact is that these guys wanted to test there limits, do things that few have ever done before...not too mention give the fans what they desire!!!
Bernard Hopkins is a great fighter no doubt about it, however his biggest victories in the ring are against guys that were taking that risk that you mentioned, these fighters who take the risks should be treated a bit more fairly than those champions who never take risks. I still rate BHOP above Floyd, but if Hopkins's next major fight (not including Eastman)is against a Winky Wright than I will have no choice but too replace him with Floyd.
Great post, but Floyd's next opponent is a "play it safe" move, he's fighting Henry Bruseles, I'm not saying that the guy isn't a talented fighter, but I think Floyd is just on another level when it comes to skill vs. that guy. I will however replace PBF with Hopkins on my p4p list if he pasts Gatti, not saying that Gatti is talented enough to make a big impact on Floyd's p4p rank, but he is a name, with some pretty good fights under his belt..

Mayweathers Resume
floyd's only been in one superfight(chico), it's time for him to face some other top guys, like tsyzu, harris, zab, spinks, even cotto
I'm sick of hearing people question Floyd's resume. This guy has one of the best resumes in the business. Full of champs and ex champs. He fought Chico, Castillo twice, Carlos Hernandez, , Jesus Chavez, Angel Manfredy, Corley, Sosa, Phillip N'Dou, Emanuel Augustus, Jukko, Carlos Risos, Goya Vargas and faught Genaro Hernadez for the title when he was just 21 years old. Tszyu, Harris, Zab or Spinks havent fought anyone close to that level of opponents, and neither has anyone on your #for# list except for Morales. Hopkins only has the two big wins over smaller opponents and one was a washed up DeLahoya who really just lost to Sturm. The rest of his opponents are garbage. Hatton has already turned Floyd down, and so has Gatti. The networks wont allow him and KT to fight, Arum isnt going to put Cotto in the ring with Floyd this soon, and if he faught Harris then he would lose his #1 ranking in the WBC for a big money PPV fight with Gatti, and trust me Gatti wont fight him if he doesnt have to. The guy is undefeated and has been a champ for over 6 years. People want to give Hopinks credit for dominating a division for so long and having 19 defenses, but Floyd has been a champ for 6 years and has had 15 fights since and has moved up twice and against better oppostition. Anyone can have a bunch of defenses against nobody's but what would've happened to Hopkins if he moved up. What if Floyd would still be at 130. He would be dominating everyone. Hopkins victories over Tito and Oscar wouldnt have been more impressive than the smaller guys Floyd would have faught. Who wouldve beaten him? Do you think Morales, Barrera, Pac Man, Marquez, Frietas or Cassamora wouldve beaten him. He would have one of the best resume's of all time, but he wanted the harder fights. He wouldve been bigger, stronger and faster than all those guys
