Former WBO heavyweight champion Corrie Sanders will make his return to the ring in Magdeburg, Germany on January 15 Universum Box-Promotion announced today. The big hitting South African believes that despite being 38 years old he is still one of the most dangerous heavyweights in the world. “I want to become world champion again”, said Sanders.
“At best I would like to fight Wladimir Klitschko right away,” added Sanders who holds a 39-3 record.
Sanders won the WBU heavyweight title in 1997 with a unanimous decision over Ross Puritty and defended the belt three times, against Bobby Czyz, Jorge Valdes and Alfred Cole before losing it to Hasim Rahman.
On March 8, 2003 he scored the biggest victory of his career by knocking out reigning WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko in Hanover, Germany.
Later he vacated the WBO belt and fought against Vitali Klitschko for the vacant WBC title on April 24 in Los Angeles. Klitschko stopped Sanders in round 8.
On the same event where Sanders makes his comeback on Jan. 15 at Bördelandhalle in Magdeburg flyweight world championesse Regina Halmich and European light heavyweight champion Thomas Ulrich will be highlighted.

He wants to fight Wladmir again? I wonder why. This is pathetic. This guy was beaten badly by Vitali, exposed for his shortcomings, and wants more? Some people will do anything for a buck.
I definitely agree, but I do not think that Byrd would be that reckless to stand in front of Sanders. Against Mchline he did not, and he jsut wanted to show the fans in the fights against Oquendo and Golota that he could stand in there like that. I think the fight against Mcline geave him back some credibility. Against Sanders he would be weary, but I think Sanders would catch him, of course Byrd has a great chin. If sanders trains hard he could TKO Byrd, and maybe KNockhim out, as Byrd might be confused by fighting another southpaw.
If Byrd stands in front of Sanders like he did Golota, he's gone, period. Even in his present condition, he's fast enough to catch Byrd coming in to hit him, and yes, he does slow down considerably later in the fight, but his sudden flurries are deadly, if not for VK's height, he would have been hit with alot of those shots, and few Heavies can lean back to the extent that VK can. Don't count him out, with the HW division the way it is, Foreman could still make some waves, so Sanders most certainly could.

Sanders is a good fighter, and one of the hardest hitting southpaws ever. He has a huge hcance to beat anyone out there except for Vitali and maybe Byrd. I support him fighting on and I wish him luck on Jan. 15th.
I think Sanders goes the distance with Byrd and perhaps Ruiz too! But he`ll only beat those with a really bad chin, like that cowardly loin Wladimir Klitscko
Byrd and RUiz would beat him easily simply by outlasting and frustrating him. Sanders is dangerous for the first 3 rounds (now that he's 39 probably only for the first 2) and after that he becomes a very precitable straight left puncher and his work-rate drops to the pace of a slug. Ruiz would TKO him late. Byrd would decision him or possibly stop him late b/c Sanders would be so tired a la Thunder-Byrd. Sanders has always had horrible stamina but with his age and inactivity he's nothing more then a solid gatekeeper right now.
No, no, and no. There is NO way that Byrd stops Sanders. There is also very little chance that Ruiz stops him. The guy's stamina is bad, but he does have 9 wins in fights that are longer than 7 rounds.

Its sad but this gut could realy have been something, if he had been given the shot younger and stepped upp in shape, if quits golfing and gets into shape he could stil ko most of the top ten.
I not sure if any of the others could beat him except Vit.
If Sanders can't get himself into shape, he should quit trying to come back and bang with the big boys and focus on his golf swing, there's less risk for him there
He needs a big guy that cant take a punch, Wlad is a good call, I am sure Wlad would like a rematch and Sanders knows he can destroy him if he connects. I also suggest Tye Fields as an opponent for him. He should stay away from Ruiz, Byrd and Rahman. Anybody that can take a punch and go the distance is a bad choice for Corrie. Unless he Wants Evander, everybody can destroy him.
I am not histatic over his return but we need a good HW fight.
Since when can Ruiz take a punch?
I give Sanders a better than average chance against anyone but Vitali. Wlad could resurect his own career by fighting Sanders or he could end it once and for all. I am very intrigued by the prospect of Sanders getting a shot at any one of the other pretenders. We would find out what they could do against his lightening fast hands and that sneaky left. He is much more exciting that Byrd, Ruiz, or Brewster. And yeah, I know about the Rahman fight. Rahman was lucky to survive and I still say Sanders would beat the rock two out of three.
Sanders quick hands are an asset for only the first five or six hands, his lack of stamina has been his downfall. I still think he would match up well with Chris Byrd because of his speed. Sanders could beat Byrd if he lays a hurting on him early on. But would have to be in much better shape than in his last fights. Hope he gets a meaningful fight.
Byrd knows this too. He would avoid big punches to carry the fight into the later rounds.

poor guy
i only seeing him beating brewster
and dats because of all of brewsters short comings
almost being beat by meehan
i dont see him beating ruiz
ruiz would frustrate him easy
i dont see him beating byrd
he got tired from chasen vitali around
imagine him tryin to trap byrd
i dont see him beating vitali
cuz well Vit already settled that
sanders wants wlad cause he's confident of a win... but it would do little to enhance his status beating wlad again, who just lost to brewster... sanders can still be a player in the division, cause of how weak it is.... at 6'4", left handed with quick powerful punches, sanders can still beat guys like mccline and barrett....
Yeah he wants Wlad, but Wlad isn't going to be available to fight until March, and Corrie wants to fight in Janurary. Sanders could be a force in such a weak division.
If the HW division wouldn't be this weak I'd give a shit about Sanders. But right now he has a legitimate chance of becoming a champ again. He'll beat the likes of Valuev, Peter or Danny Williams easily. And if he fought Byrd or Ruiz I wouldn't bet against him either. He doesn't even have to train hard to be competitive. Sad isn't it?
He should stick to golfing...he certainly has the body type.
Who cares what an underacheiver PLANS to do ?
He'll set up a fight, show up portly, & we'll hear about how good he could be if only he trained harder.
His return is not particularly interesting.
he can possibly win a world title, not against VK, but maybe against ruiz or brewster... i dont mind him still fighting, he's much more capable then holyfield at this point... and his fights are usually exciting, sanders/rahman II would be fun to watch...
