Should Bernard Hopkins fight Winky Wright on HBO in February if it means giving up a belt? Wright's more deserving than Howard Eastman, and he probably has a better chance. Still, Hopkins has never wanted to concede anything, although it's questionable whether he would need that belt for leverage anymore. Some critics will claim he ducked Eastman and that he only fights smaller fighters. He might as well let Eastman fight somebody for a belt, and then unify later. It's an interesting hypothetical.
For Wright, should he give up his junior middleweight belts for a shot at the top dog? He has pretty good security at 154, with a lot of decent HBO dates against guys like Kassim Ouma and Travis Simms, etc. I think Hopkins-Wright would be damn interesting, although I will of course pick Hopkins.
Hopkins would handle Wright with ease.
I don't think I've ever seen a fighter handle southpaws better than Hopkins.
Wright is not a slick lefty, either. Just a smart, strong, solid one.
Wright could walk down the undersized, under-powered Mosley.....but wouldn't dare dream of doing the same to Hopkins.
Hopkins by 10th rd. TKO over Wright.
I don't know. If you look at a fighters confidence you can tell a lot about how he would handle someone. Every oponent (not including Tito) that I've seen face Hopkins were scared when they stepped in the ring (look at Allen's, Joppy's, Holmes', Hakkar's, Daniels' and DLH's faces when they enter the ring). They look like Sharmba looked when he stepped in the ring with KZ, visibly SCARED and unconfident. I don't think that will happen with Winky and he will dance himself to a UD over Hopkins.
wright's best chances are against oscar or tito.... cant see him beating nard.... on another note, when they were talking about the different "sugar's" of boxing saturday, i think sugar ray would have beaten wright pretty easy.... shane should move down to 147, where he could beat spinks and murder zab....

I think Winky beats Hopkins (styles make fights) but Trinidad would knock him cold in the 7th or 8th when he catches up to him. Flame on, but this is my honest to God opinion.
Eastman deserves his shot, no matter what his chances are. Personally, I think Hopkins would fairly easily take care of Wright was his typical measured fashion, probably decisioning him nine rounds to three.
I agree. Hopkins will kill 'em. Hopkins just has way too much weapons for Winky. I think Winky's set (keeping his left arm next to his head, and his right arm out and circling) makes it easy for Hopkins to get inside, where he's most effective. As far as Winky's jab goes Hopkins will do what's neccessary to make it a non-factor by jabbing with him and following through with a straight right. From what I hear Winky isn't as impressive in the ring once his opponent breaks his will...the aggression leaves (as was the case with Vargas..) anywho...If I was Winky and I had to choose between Bernard Hopkins and Tito Trinidad, I certainly would pick to fight Trinidad, because it's an easier fight, and more money..
If Winky got the Hopkins fight ahead of Eastman that would be bullshit, if Winky took the fight he'd a idiot because he was in the same place as Eastman at one stage, when DLH refused to fight him.
Eastmans not a great figher but he's been doing the business at middle for a long time and shouldnt get pushed a side for a money match.
I'm a fight fan and would rather see Winky vs Nard but not at the expense of Eastmans dream, especially when he's been working torwards this for so many years! Imagine if you had been sleeping rough on the streets and turned your life around, only to get denided at the last stage, that would be bullshit!!
Hopkins and Trinidad would kill him. No power he can only fight if hes comming at you... Trinidad would charge the smaller winky as would Hopkins do the same, both resulting in a ass whipping
i don't think Wright will fight Hops, Nard wants two more defenses so he can retire with 20, then he's gone, unless he decides on a big money fight to end his career in style - maybe Tarver, rematch with Tito. Hops will probably fight Eastman just so people can't say he ducked him. With how fast things are going, i don't think Wright will have time for a shot at Hops before he's gone, which is just as well, unless Nard gets old overnight he'll beat Wright anyway i can see it - wright is not a big puncher.
