What fighter had the greatest stamina ever? It has constantly amazed me how fighters can go round after round when my experiences have left me nearly dead after 5 or 6. I think Marciano may have had the best ever...he never stopped. In a more modern view, I'm not sure.
Easily Marciano... Aaron Pryor and Salvador Sanchez are also excellent picks.
Marciano used to run 5 miles a day, even when he was sick and even on X-mas day... THAT is determination. He never quit, no matter how tired or beaten he was. He was rewarded with the only undefeated record of any heavyweight champion in history.
Greatest stamina of all time? Easily the great Salvador Sanchez. Watch the 15th round of the Azumah Nelson fight. He had been in one of the toughest battles of his career, and wasn't even breathing hard! Its those mexican mountains that do the trick. I've trained in high elevations before, and that shit is crazy. When I lived in Suffern, NY, I used to train in the Catskills Mountains every morning. It's so hard to breathe up there, and its always cold, takes alot of determination.
Marciano was superhuman stamina wise, he just didn't stop...
The old timers are even more impressive when you look back because they didn't have all these fancy diets or nutrition experts.
Aaron Pryor!!! that guy never stopped throwing punches. he would be all over his opponent all fight long. all of his ko's were from wearing out the other guy. he was truely a machine, he never stopped!!! the man had wells of stamina, and the most energy i've ever seen from a fighter.....if you don't beleive me watch like three of his fights. one from the beginning of his career, one in the middle, and one from the end. you'll see that his style never changed, it was an all out assault!!! good stuff too!!
The old school fighters definitely had it, and though you could say Marciano had the best stamina, frankly I'd be hard pressed to name any of the pre-60's champs who had poor stamina. They were all machines, who could go 15 rounds without slowing down, taking off a round, or getting weak in the legs. Don't ask me how they did it... ...training I guess.
Marciano is a great pick. Henry Armstrong deserves a mention. The man threw punches non-stop for 15 rounds, if it ever went that long.
Man, that's a good choice too. He was a machine. How in the hell do those guys get into that kind of shape? People who can run 5 miles often could not last more than a few rounds.
