It seems to me Trinidad's victory over Mayorga was hyped out of all proportion to what acctually happened, good fight, good win, but lets face it, how great an opponent is Mayorga who was fighting up a weight class and doesn't exactly have the greatest boxing credentials.
While give Trinidad credit for winning a tough but "showey" circus like fight with Mayorga, i'm not as impressed as all of his rabid fans, some who see him as a national hero in Puerto Rico.
I see Trinidad as needing a convincing victory over both Hopkins and De La Hoya before he can be considered "great" again, something I seriously doubt he'll accomplish.
Tito can beat Hopkins. You can see in their fight that Hopkins is really moving. He respect Tito's power. Tito just didn't use his other skills that fight. He should also learn to move and use exact defense. Try to find a hole on Hopkins. I think Tito can KO Hopkins.
What I meant by what I said in the previous page was that you aren't judged solely on who you beat. Yes a win is a win, but the performance you put on in the ring is what experts marvel at and rank fighters by. Look at Rocky Marciano..he retired undefeated and beat the person who is at the top of list of greatest heavyweights of all time...yet because he wasn't as complete a fighter as fighters who rank above him (as well as the fact of his opposition) he isn't looked at as being all that great...
AFTER HE BEATS HOPKINS OLD ASS.
Tito doesn't have the ability to change his gameplan to beat Hopkins, Hopkins has too much skill and ring brain to be beat by Tito.
However, this is Titos best chance at revenge cos Hopkins is getting on but I personally think he's got a good 18 months left.
Hopkins will win again when (if) they fight in 2005
how doesnt he have the tools, im not gonna repeat everything teakay said cuz that was perfect so if those arent tools, who in this boxing game has "tools"
Trinidad...top 35 of all time???? You don't mean in general do you? And if he beats Sturm and Hopkins he'll be in the top 10 of all time. I doubt it...all fights and performances aside...he just doesn't have the tools to be held in such high regard. Look at John Ruiz (and no I'm not comparing Tito to John Ruiz as far as fighting goes in any way, shape or form..) he wins fights, but I doubt he'll ever be looked at in the future as great or one of the greatest champs, simply because he doesn't have the tools to be looked at as a great champ..he's two-dimensional i.e. punch, hug.
Tito will be an all time great fighter when he is done boxing.
I know, I know, alot of people on these boxing forums hate it when someone considers one of todays fighters as "great", but you guys need to get your daddy's d1ck out of your mouth. Anyone here who actually boxed before can see alot of greatness about his boxing style. Also Tito fought all the dangerous fighters, he can get up from the canvas, gots power in both hands, and can close the show.
What more do you need to do to be considered great these days? Move up to HW and beat the HW champ, nope that's been done, didn't work.
He'll be fine as long as he doesn't get in the ring with B-hop and Oscar again.

Very true, but another thing that i dont understand is how is oscar considered so much better than tito if they basically fought the same people. But the way i see it the people that they fought i actually think tito beat them all with a better performance.
Because DLH beat tito even with the running. Tito had nothing. If anything, Oscar gave Trinidad his win (although he did enough and should have been given the decision). THAT IS WHY DLH IS BETTER.
Well it shows you that the man is helpless when being outboxed. Not even his punching power can save him in that situation. Everyone that you mentioned aside from Ried, OSacr also beat.

I still consider Trinidad's victory over Mayorga impressive. Yes, he was in their with a smaller opponent with the perfect style. Still, how many people thought Tito would look as sharp as he did after 2 damn years of retirement? Not many. He looked as if he never left. Landing 60% of your punches is impressive even against a human punching bag. In the grand scheme of things, the fight didn't boost his legacy, but the impressive aspect was the way he looked in the ring. I was expecting a little rust, there was none.
As for Trinidad's all-time status, if he beats Hopkins and DLH, he won't be anywhere near the top 10. And i'm a Tito fan; always have been.
I dont understand what you mean by "big name" If you mean as in fighters he has fought and beat then i see alot of names. Hector Camacho, Oba Carr, Pernell Whitaker, ODLH, David Reid, Fernando Vargas and alot of others. Everyone talks shit about how he lost to DLH but it was a draw, even Larry Merchants card had it that way 114-114. So the only lose he ever had was against the best pound for pound fighter in boxing and maybe one of the top 3 middleweights ever. So i dont understand why there is even any discussion Trinidads name or record being "Tarished" because of 2 fights

Even if he beats Hopkins and Delahoya I still don't see him as a top 10 all-time great. I don't make a big deal over his easy win against Mayorga because it is what I had been saying since I came to the boxingscene forum when the fight was put together. Tito is a great fighter and it is just the people who have serious hate for him that say he isn't. The only man to beat Tito completely is Bernard Hopkins and he is considered one of the greatest middleweights ever. Even if I had Oscar winning a close fight with Tito he didn't convince me he was that much better than Tito. It takes more than just movement to beat Tito. A fighter has to bring a complete gameplan the way Hopkins did and Oscar didn't have a complete gameplan that night.
^^^^^there is no way tito is anywhere near top ten all time. i could name at least ten fighters fighting right now that are better p4p.

he is good, the best PR has had up to date, but he is lacking a big name, had he beat Hopkins and moved up to fight Jones, oh man, he would be in the all time great books
Yep, B-Hop and DLH tarnished his name even though he got a "win" against the Golden Boy. His win over Mayorga just proved he ain't shot but that's it.
Tito is a fighter who with the right guy in front of him acn look very good. If you come right at him you have no chance.
But in his two biggest fights against the best fighters he fought he wasn't even competative.
He never learned to cut off the ring and this killed him agaisnt Hopkind and DLH.
