it can be said that tyson indeed needed the lewis fight but lewis needed the tyson fight more. lewis needed that defining fight in his career that would be the defining fight. not so much that it was the best fight but more that it was tyson. some could argue that evander was more the defining fight. what do you think?
To me, Lewis` win over Holyfield meant more than his win over Tyson. Evander put up a much better fight even in their first than Tyson did in any round of their fight!
Lewis was interviewed on Jonathan Ross show recently. They didnt show a clip of him beating the RealDeal, they showed him knocking out Tyson which means...it really does add to his legacy. Tyson may have been stopped by Williams recently but he was the 1st to end the hype since Tyson started coming on the comeback trail again.
He was under contract with Showtime then.
Yes, but HBO screened the telecast and without there intervention Tyson psycho episode at their Press Confenerce would have ended the whole thing. HBO saved the shoe because Mike lost his temper and Showtime were out bid!
HOW DARE HBO SEND TYSON OUT LIKE THAT, AND THE BUTT OF THE JOKE IS THE LEWIS FIGHT SHOWED TYSONS BEST FORM IN YEARS!!
Tyson was a shot and finished fighter when Lewis beat him. There wasn`t much point in the fight except money. Shame on HBO for letting Tyson fight that fight in this condition, shame!!!

I don't believe that Holyfield's head is F*? Why would you think so? he seems to have trouble speeking a bit, but his mind seems to be o.k. to me?
he still fight and he is over 42 years old. he have fight almost all his life. think how much punches he have take. he/his friends know he can get kill in the ring if he keept fighting. obviosly he is not clear in the head.
yes he needed tyson because tyson was the last big name on his list, and when people look back on lewis's record in years to come all they will see is that lewis beat tyson, it's as simple as that
I think he did need to beat Mike for his legacy. He was always respected as being a great fighter but everyone always had the question in their minds as to what would happen if Lennox were to face Mike. I know they didnt fight in their primes (at least not Mike's) but I do think the destruction of Mike Tyson did do a lot for the legacy of Lennox Lewis. There are really no questions left unanswered as far as Lennox's carrer, except maybe the question of what would have happened with a Vitali rematch.
My mind exactly i was about to write the same.

well who cares about u, if the public sees it and u dont o well.
lol, i would like to see tyson come back and win. but we all know tyson cant do it. he is to short and slow now, a yound mike got a lot of movement, mike now cant never got that again. his head is f* like holyfield, ali etc.
"the tyson fight elevated lewis to his highest point". Perhaps in the eyes of the main public, not to me. Tyson just isn't capable of making a decent comeback. His style doesn't support it, and his age and mental state arent't helping either. He is not capable of doing against Williams and he wasn't capable when he fougth Lewis. Sure I would like to see Tyson fight again, but I know that will not see him win again. (at least not against a real contender)

i disagree, i think the tyson fight elevated lewis to his highest point. just look at what danny williams did he beat a shitty version of tyson then lewis did and he got a title shot. tyson is big, if u beat him your career goes up.
he got dominated for the most part of the Vitaly fight. Have to say that he came back strong in the middle rounds. I think that his seize also has to do with him not being dominated. It's not easy to dominate when you are fighting a giant like Lewis. Only a fellow giant with just as much skill could do that. Vitaly would seem the man for the job. Damn, I want that rematch bad!
It's far too late for a rematch. Lewis is too old. I don't want to see another retired champ come back and take a beating at the hands of a younger, stronger fighter. No fun in that at all. Just be happy with that one spectacular heavyweight fight, watch it over and over, and be glad you were there to see it live. Trust me, it's one that will be talked about for another 50 years, and will go down as one of the greatest heavyweight fights ever. It had all the "goodies". An aging champ, two huge guys with power in both hands, a young challenger who wasn't expected to do much more than show up and fall down.....it has it all, fellas. It may not be something people rave about now, but mark what I say....it'll be the one people remember most of this era.
