LENNOX LEWIS is backing Danny Williams to take on his mantle by beating Vitali Klitschko to become WBC champion in December.
The retirement earlier this year of former heavyweight champion Lewis left a large gap in the division and he believes Williams has the ability to capitalise by taking the title from Klitschko, who he knows well after knocking out the Ukrainian in June 2003.
The fight is scheduled for December 11. No venue has been officially announced.
"Danny has three ways to beat Vitali," said Lewis. "He can go after cuts around his eyes. I exposed him as a fighter who cuts up badly.
"He should also go to Vitali's body, where he is vulnerable. Also, if Danny keeps his cool he could outbox Klitschko and win a decision."
After those recent statements, it has got me thinking....What if Williams does beat vitali? Is that another stab in the heavyweight gut? I mean everyone recognizes vitali as the main champ and if williams beats klitschko will we hold him as the "real" champ? I know people will be all over his testicles after beating tyson and then vitali so people will ride his dick no doubting that one. Williams says he will fight vitali the same way he fought tyson, which has got me thinking aint noway williams is winning this fight w/ that style, in the tyson fight he left his head wide open and was out on his feet when tyson cold cocked him but held on to a smaller tyson and vitali is 6 inches taller then williams so it wont be as easy to rest his arms on the giant......
What is everyones opinion? If williams wins who is our champ?
My pick is Byrd, Byrd has only been beating by very credible opponents and only been knocked out by the hardest hitting heavyweight since tyson in his prime and that was with a seperated rib......
Anyone?
*EDIT*
Best quote anyone could state at this point regarding lewis and klitschko and other fighters....
"Lennox Lewis gives advice to these fighters from retirement and then sends them to me," Klitschko said. "It didn't help Corrie Sanders. Let's see if it helps Danny Williams, but I doubt it."
Agree that Williams has 2 chances - slim and none. Also, agree that Klitschko may not have Linear Champ sewed up at this point (whatever that means ;) ) - I would like to see him beat Ruiz/Golota and/or Byrd/McCline before we give him that title.
Seems there's alot of people not willing to give Vitali much of anything until he beats "Lights Out" also. I definitely want to see him in against the Ruiz/Golota winner. But also hope Klit never gets his dream of fighting Tyson, because it really doesn't mean anything to anybody but the bankers.
williams is a monster compared to vitali... vitali is light in the ass.. 6'8 250 williams 6'1 265 that mean if williams was 6'8 he would weigh 300 lbs according to the hieght chart for the miliatry..i think williams shold try to puch vitali around.. he dont like contact
No doubt Danny has heart, but Vitali is about as determined as they come right now, he'll go in looking to win big..but if danny does pull of the upset I say golota after he beats ruiz should be considered the real champ.
Williams has no chance. He'll be motivated, as he has before, but he'll need to bring a new game to the Ring with Vitali. Admittedly, I was the biggest Vitali trasher around, but he's starting to command some respect, even if he beat a Fat Goldef, but did have a pretty good showing against an aging Linear Champ.
By the way, Vitali cannot claim to be the Linear Champ quite yet. In reality, he will never be able to say he beat the guy who beat the guy, but he can have the Linear Title "given" to him if he beats all true contenders that were in-place at the time he got his first title.
Any thoughts on that one?
That's exactly what I meant when I posted before that it was hard for me to consider Vitali the 'real' champ cause I felt he got the belt by default, so to speak, by fighting another contender instead of Lewis. YES, he tried to get a rematch, but he didnt, but that wasnt my point to begin with. So I basically agree with what you said. ;)

i agree. Vitali will beat either of those for guys, especially mccline. I personally want to see John Ruiz try to "man hug" someone bigger than him. I hope Vitali knocks his face off.

Sure, sure you have me figured out! I just knew with time that you would; considering that I've reasonable explained everything I post where youre concerned. You wanna be right so bad; go right ahead. I wont argue with you. Now, how does it feel? To THINK youre right all the time. What have you accomplished? Proving that when it comes to debating or discussing boxing or the meaning of life for that matter, with you it's a 'no win' situation. If you would accept the meaning of my words at face value, instead of what you want them to mean, you'd be that much closer to really getting it. I bet you argue with yourself when youre at home alone, dont you? If thinking you won this one will help you to stop badgering me, then please consider yourself victorious. It's on me.. ;)
OUCH ! That's going to leave a mark!!! hehehe ;)
Because you can't explain why one of Lewis's friends was acting in a aggresive manner without admitting that I was right. Don't be too proud to admit when you are wrong.

Well that wasn't surprising. Way to not answer the question.
See, that is why I dont debate with you; you twist thing's around and I've told you that before.
"Way to not answer a question"....NO, way to not play your stupid game...PERIOD. NO more, no less. But you go ahead and call it whatever you want; youre good at that.
Btw, I cant help but notice that I'm just one of many that refuse to try and have discussions/debates with you. Ever wonder why that is?
WHATEVER...look, I tried to be nice about the matter; understanding why you'd automatically think that everything bad was Lewis' fault. I refuse to bang my head against this familiar wall, OK. I saw what I saw, you saw what you wanted to see. FINE, I get it. I'm not trying to harass you into believing that Vitali and his bro. were showing their asses in Lewis' corner; stop trying to harass me into thinking that Lewis is a thug and had any reason to behave badly after a victory! It wont work. If you could debate like some of the more objective and reasonable Klitschko fans then I'd love to debate with you. But you CANT. I'm not staying in this until you start with the "keep on hating" crap....it's really old.
You and torino should just debate with each other; according to both of you you're always right and everybody else is a hater.

Well that's not surprising so explain why Lewis's big friend in the black jacket had to be restrained by another of Lewis's friends in a red baseball hat, and what he (big guy in black jacket) was doing when he went storming across the ring pointing his finger and acting in an aggresive manner at Vitali when Vitali was trying to talk to Lewis about a rematch?

Apparently you missed Lewis's friends try to start a fight.
But of course that's what YOU saw, and I'd expect nothing else from you. NO, I didnt see that , and it wasnt cause I didnt want to or cause I wasnt looking either. I saw, in the ring, what I saw. I've got it taped and have seen it many, many times. You'll not convince me that the commotion was caused by Lewis' corner. You convinced yourself of that and that is just fine with me. Like I said, I would have been surprised, no FLOORED, if you had seen what I saw. It's ok, no big deal. ;)
I have one major problem with Vitali, and it has nothing to do with actual talent. I have this scene that runs though my head automatically every time I hear his name, and I just cant get rid of it. Remember when he lost to Lewis? While everybody was still in the ring, etc. he kept throwing a fit cause they stopped the fight (like, his eyeball was about to fall out of his head!!) and Wlad entered the ring (to make matters worse) and they kept going over to Lewis' corner carrying on and on to the point where I tought they were gonna 'jump him' or something. It was crazy; like they blamed him for it getting stopped (technically it was his fault..that big right hand of his). It just made me sick, and as unfair as it is, no matter how long ago it happened I just cant get that scene out of my head!! And I KNOW they damn sure werent going over there to congradulate him
