I just read this...Tarver thinks there will be a next time?
Tarver said: what excuse are you going to use now, well, he is now running out of excuses, all his smart ass talking is losing quite some credibility now. It's not that I don't like Jones but when somebody has a big mouth, talks about how good he is, putting on little smart ass smiles while standing in the ropes and getting hit like it didn't bother him, a part of me feels satisfied to see him be put in is place, maybe the next time he should concentrate on fighting back little bit insted of trying to show off.
You betcha officer tracylee.
As for Tarver's lucky punch. My thoughts are that Tarver was lucky Roy didn't see it. RJJ normally sees punches like those. That one he missed! :)
Maybe; maybe not. He sure saw the one Johnson tagged him with; he "braced" himself against it when he saw it coming. I couldnt figure out why he didnt try and block it instead.
Anyway, I cant debate with ya'll today; my kid's sick...I was just checking mess. while she napped.
I think he was sincere. And i cant say i disagree with him completely. Roy's lost the things that made hime such a great fighter. and if he choses to try and fight in the same style, this will keep happening.
Obvisouly I'm disappointed that roy lost. but, i think i'm more disappointed in the fact that he didnt adjust his style after the tarver loss. he should follow his rivals examples (James Toney and Bernard Hopkins) and use his whole body as a defensive tool. not just his legs. I know you hate roy, but be honest: he would have never lost to johnson 5 years ago.
I dont 'hate' him Nick; just a strong dislike, and now it's more pity than anything cause I know how important this fight was to him.
I dont think Johnson could have handled him that way 5 yr's ago either
Okay, cool. I just wanted to make sure you didnt mean all the talk about Tarver's "lucky" punch and whatever fantastic excuses some (not all) of his fan's could come up with as to why he got beat last night. Just making sure :)

If he wasnt being sarcastic, I think it's a very cool thing to say. Show's some class.

I just read this, it's from the post fight press conference last night.
"I hope Roy retires,” bluntly stated Tarver. “He needs to stay home and take care of himself. I give him (Jones) all the credit in the world but I don't want him to get hurt. I want to see Roy enjoy his life after boxing (and) ride off into the sunset."

That his legacy was nothing more than years of avoiding fighters and that he was all talk and no show.

Okay, I'm curious, what 'misconceptions' exactly do you mean?

Man with his skills and his record he could have talked all he wanted outside the ring. He litterally fought for that right. Now showboating in the ring is different. That's where you work.
If there was a next time, RJJ will only do it not to become the best (he already was) but to clear up his record and misconceptions after the losses and to make a respectable exit.
