I dont hate Roy, and I agree he is amongst the best PFP, but he is a shot fighter and i will tell you why. As a fighter if you dont regulate your weight it ages you in the ring very quickly. Roy has bulked up and then slimed down so many times it has runined him, every time he put on solid lean muscle to bulk up for a fight and then had to loose it again it fuked him up as it would anyone, his body got used to the extra muscle so when he needed to remove it again it left him weak and weight drained hence the appearence of poor punch resistance, let me tell you his chin used to be solid, but due to this see-saw weight problem its left him as we all see him now, his body doesnt no what weight it should be its in fukin limbo or something, he needs 6 months off total, then he will be ok for a few more fights at i would say light heavy.
I simply don't buy the fact that he lost his will. Like i previously stated, i didn't think he ever put all of his heart into this sport. And i don't think he continued to fight for money. He's pretty much set for life.
It is still my personal belief that his physical gifts simply diminished. It showed in the first Tarver fight and i think it even showed in the Clinton Woods fight. Even though he was completely dominating, he was being nailed far more often than usual and even had a puffy eye. It wasn't much, but i think that was the beginning of his downfall.
That's my opinion and you have yours. I suppose we'll have to agree to disagree.
Yes old. So what if the other guy was 35? People age differently. Lennox Lewis got better with age, arguably, Arhie Moore as well. Simply look at Roger Clemens and Barry Bonds. Some athletes hit their prime late in their career. Others such as Wilfred Benitez, Wilfredo Gomez, etc. burn out early.
You even said it yourself, "RJJ was genetically gifted...". The key word is "was". He could no longer do the things he did in his prime. Do you seriously think he would've gotten nailed by that slow and sloppy punch when he was in his twenties? At his best, Jones could've dodged that punch and throw a left hook to knock Johnson out in a single move.
If Jones didn't want to box anymore, he wouldn't. He never really seemed too interested in boxing anyways. He probably loved basketball more than boxing. Why would he box if he lost his will and didn't want to anymore?
Roy is a fairly smart guy. He always seemed like the type of fighter to retire before he was done. I guess i was wrong.
Like I said, he looked slow not cuz he's old, he lost his will. No the old RJJ wouldn't have gotten hit with that punch because the old RJJ wouldn't have fought lazy like that and allow him to be backed into the ropes. He would box even if he lost his will because the money is good. If you were good at what you were doing and get paid millions each fight, wouldn't you mind boxing a few more fights?
**about RJJ "was" genetically gifted. Lemme rephrase that. RJJ IS genetically gifted. Happy? And Nich got what I meant.
No one gets that old that fast. He put on a show against Ruiz just over a year ago. I do agree that Tarver took something out of him. He could have gotten it back, but what for? He was already the best...anyweyz, at least that's my opinion.
You even said it yourself, "RJJ was genetically gifted...".
I think he said "WAS" because that WAS the last time RJJ goes near a boxing ring unless he has a tuxedo on & a microphone in his hand.
Old? Wtf old?!!?? He got clocked by a guy who was also 35 and who also swung wide. RJJ was genetically gifted and no way 35 years would stop him. He just didn't look like he wanted to do box anymore. He lost his will.

The reason why Roy is done is because he got old. Plain and simple. As a youth, he never learned proper technique because he didn't have to. Him and his trainers built his style around his incredible quickness and reflexes. He could do unorthodox movements in the ring and get away with them.
However, once his speed and reflexes diminished, he was reduced to a sloppy fighter with good handspeed. He can no longer see punches before they are thrown. He can no longer fight with his hands at his waist. The thing that made his so great was eventually his downfall.

Please be somewhat coherent you "never was" bum. ;)
Dude, didn't you make a thread a bout a show you were watching and started to have a conversation with yourself?
That was only for a while and it wasn't my intent.
Not my fault no one else was posting at the time.
Also, I was updating info on the fight.
I usually post my thoughts in other threads.
I feel no need to make a thread for each thought I have.
But I guess when you have only three brain cells left, a huge gut, and are over the hill, having a thought is really something to celebrate.
