Ok first off here is my scorecard.
The first scores with the 12 rounds is with the sound On and broadcasted live, the second set is with the sound off...As you can see huge change.

Now, wow where to begin.....I believe the fight lived up to everything and anything expected, I went into watching this fight unbiased and grateful for just a winner.
Dlh seemed to throw a lot of flurries and combinations while they looked good having reviewing the tape in slow motion and without sound, A LOT! of these punches did not land and while the crowd was cheering and the announcers ranting it did look good but the fact is a lot of these did not land.
Bernard Hopkins seemed to keep dlh at bay just popping his jab and then coming forward this was nice as bernard hit DLH with some good flush shots....Their was a look of *wtf am I doing here* on oscars face when those punches connected.
Watching it live I thought it was a damn close fight and my scorecard was a draw. but reviewing it without the people at my house blabbering and sitting alone Hopkins turned out to still be the dominant fighter, by keeping dlh away with his jab and coming forward and allowing DLH to come forward when hopkins would allow.
The "mystic" punch as I am going to call it from hopkins, did not look devastating to me on TV infact I rewinded it about a thousand times last night and still couldnt see it being flush, why? Well because the bottom of the palm connected with oscar not the fist, Simple as that. Im not saying that this was some fixed fight but it didnt look that clean, However it did get the job done and that was what was needed. Viewing it back in silence oscar was being punished out their!
The Ending and post interviews was tremendous both of these fighters have gotten and earned my utmost respect. The fact that the crowd and hbo still didnt give any props to hopkins burns in my stomach as Bernard looked triumphant in the beginning but at the end looked like a bully beating a little boy. Major respect to DLH for throwing out what Larry merchant try to say and say the hand was a distraction and DLH saying no it wasnt, Hopkins landed the perfect punch. I cant believe Oscar took it without any excuses and that burns in my stomach and made me emotional almost bringing tears to my eyes and still does as writing this.
Both fighters showed respect before the fight, during the fight and After the fight.
Overall coming from an unbiased viewer this fight was A GREAT FIGHT!
It lived up to everything I had wished for and a opportunity like this only comes every few decades as fighters have to establish themselves to this level....
Also Oscar De La Hoya looks nothing like a middleweight, still being a trim and fit 155 he still looked pudgy, Oscar move down and clean house....140 needs it.
Bernard Hopkins go right after Jones make your record squeaky clean and smack out Tarver if you can and retire as one of the greatest Boxers in the past 20 years....Your legacy is established and will not be broken!
My hats off to Oscar De La Hoya and Bernard Hopkins, both of you two gentleman have a new fan standing in your shadows!
God Bless you both!
I had it 76-76 Draw going into the 9th, and yeah to me the shot didnt look like much, but I wouldnt want to get hit with that anyways, lol
Instant replay made it look weak. That's about it.
I just watched the fight again. I saw the body shot and it was quick and dry. If you see it in slow mow,it takes away everything. Watch it normally and you see that it was very crisp. No dive. Oscar just got hurt.
I agree the odds were against Oscar before he stepped foot in the ring, he was KO'd by the greatest middleweight since Marvin Hagler, all the other great fighters he has fought previously couldn't stop him which says alot about Oscar. He is one tough fighter who was beaten by the best pound for pound fighter on the planet.
Oscar De La Hoya can see every punch. He fought someone bigger than himself, so he can get away with being knocked out by body punch. Everyone will believe this. No one will think it was fake because his opponent is great and bigger.
Well that is quite a definitive opinion you have there young lady.

Even from my limited boxing experience - De La Hoya was taking a step backward as Hopkins was coming in - That for a start puts DLH at a disadvantage as he's stomach would not be taut as it normally would when defending.
If you geta flush liver shot - Its like someone has stabbed you and your' energy is being sucked out like a balloon flying around the room if you don't tie it off properly, only faster.
Just cause the view of the shot didn't look like Gatti Dorin - It don't mean that it wasn't a good shot - We watched in slow mo a bunch of times on video and I could see the shot landing and whilst Hopkins fist didn't disapear into his rib cage ala a Tyson classic - It sure landed.
Nard had to play chess for a lot of rounds to expose the opening - I thought the whole fight was a subtle yet brutal battle of boxing intelligence that was decided in the end by size AND brains.
If it's a punch that Hoya didn't see, then it doesn't need to be an incredibly hard shot. It sucks others aren't seeing the beauty of it: Hopkins throws a jab, feints with a right hand causing Oscar to avoid it by ducking over to his left, thereby exposing his right side for the perfect liver shot outside of his vision. Nard is a tactician.. he studies his opponent in the early rounds and by the 2nd half of the fight he's made the small adjustments needed to start consistently landing clean shots. You can talk about Micky Ward body shot KOs all you want cause they were nice, but this shot was great in it's own right.
Quite right.

Spinksjinx is right. The shot that floored Oscar was suspect at best. To see DeLaHoya rithing in pain after that "punch" was shocking. I came on and said it right after the fight and after reviewing it a thousand times I am more confused than ever.
I've watched it over numerous times and I realize the effects of a punch in that area and it still doesnt look flush to me or even remotely close it was a graze! Hopkins did not dig it into his side like gatti did to dorin....Im not sure what to think other then great fight lol!
If oscar did decide to throw it, it wasnt because of politics it was because he was being broken down as a regular fighter in that fight and had no real advantage going into it....
Plus their was no cries of a rematch....No cries of excuses even though HBO tried to blame it on distractions from the hand, De la hoya denied and said the hand was not a problem.....I dont know what to think. But I have swallowed it and accept the fact that it is boxing and last night is probably the last great fight I will see in a while..regardless of the outcome....

no rematch needed, no more middleweight fights for DLH needed. He fought well but was obviously at a huge physical disadvantage. I actually had the fight even, but it seemed clear that Hopkins would get him eventually. I didn't feel Oscar could keep up at that pace for 12. It was a nice gameplan for Oscar, but the physical advantages for Hopkins were too much for him.
lets see see Hopkins-Tarver and DLH-Trinidad II with the winner taking on Winky...only in my dreams probably
The first 6 rounds were all very close. After 8, I had it 4-4. Rounds 1, 2 & 3 to De La Hoya, 4 & 5 to Hopkins, 6 to De La Hoya... then 7 & 8 to Hopkins.
De La Hoya barely squeaked by in the 4 rounds I had him winning, especially the 6th. Hopkins was an obvious winner of rounds 7 & 8 and the beginning of the end was apparent.
I'm glad it didn't go to the cards... the judges' scoring was quite "off".
I don't think a rematch is needed. Hopkins is always going to be Delahoya. I'd rather just leave it the way it is now. On ESPN News Tarver and Hopkins were face to face and said they would fight only if the money is right. Hopkins also said he wants his 20 defense before anything but if a big fight came up and the money was too good to miss he would go for the big fight.
Valid points, With hopkins and tarver that is a weird matchup and I think negotiations would get in the way, with weight issues and financial issues....Tarver would demand more money for knocking out jones and hopkins would demand more for knocking out Oscar De La Hoya, So I dont see that coming into the light anytime soon....However I do believe a possible matchup with Roy is now likely possible, I guess Roy Jones has said that he will come down and fight hopkins....
That is the best fight on the table right now in any division....
Let Tarver go fight a heavyweight like James Toney to keep himself busy for a while.....
Featherweight to Middleweight has some serious matchups that need to be made and are looking likely to happen....
Jones vs Hopkins
Mosley vs wright
barrera vs morales
Pacquaio vs Any preferably top 3 feathweights
Mayweather vs tszyu
Mayweather vs Gatti
Trinidad vs Mayorga
Trinidad vs De La Hoya
Jermain Taylor vs Eastman
Ouma vs philips
Spinks vs Judah
Corrales vs ????
With a list like this it kind of makes you forget about the mediocre divisons of the north.

I saw Oscar dominate the early rounds and even made Bernard brush off his chin after a jab. And his flurries were causing problems for Hokins when he tried to get close to Oscar. That was smart on his part and I was impressed. I dunno why he stopped moving again.
His flurries were nice but they werent well connected, I seen a few good shots but most either missed or grazed...I think I know what you are talking about with bernard and his chin, Bernard took a few good shots from DLH as did de la hoya from hopkins...It was a tactical war not a slugfest :) We need more fights like last nights.
How does everyone else feel about a rematch?????
I dont think it should be ruled out and would pay to see it again....Nothing to lose for either fighters last night or if they decided to do it again....However Hopkins has some business with Jones, but Tarver is calling hopkins name....It is going to be a good few months, I hope we have a fight locked up sometime happening in january or february and not until next summer or spring.

Jantuah knocked out Daniel Santos as well. I heard alot about Rubio before this fight but I had never seen him in the ring. It looked like it was going to be a good fight until Jantuah thought otherwise.
I dont think it was a GREAT fight individually, I'd say Kofi Jantuah stole the show...that was a GREAT KO!
As far as "the punch" I have my doubts, but maybe its b/c I had about 6 beers before the fight! lol I need to watch the replay sober next sat. -but a lot of people at the house I was watching the fight were disappointed in the fight. IMO they were average fight fans, and I understand that us hardcore fans can respect the fight, but the fight last night did nothing to attain a broader fan base IMO.
I guess boxing is a cursed sport.
peace.
That shot that Jantuah landed was just *ouch* I never heard of Jantuah prior to this fight and only heard of the name Marco Antonio Rubio, I heard it was going to be a war. Well look what happened lol...Rubio was out cold before he hit the canvas well actually before his neck snapped back, that was a vicious hook....Jantuah seemed kind of cocky kind of like lennox lewis, but I guess that is just confidence...I would be as well, if I knocked a champion out in 33 seconds *ouch*
I realize a lot of people were disappointed in the main event, but everyone wants a war and they think a traditional boxing match is dull (that speaks for the public.) You cant please everybody but the true boxing fans most likely think they got their dollars worth.
It was a great fight between two great fighters. All of people will say it didn't live up to the hype but that's because the bar was set so high with the Hagler-leonard comparisons. This fight was and should always be left by itself just like Hagler-Leonard should not be compare to any other fight or any fight should not be compare to that fight. That's the problem every big fight is compared to other fights and when it doesn't turn out the same way everyone says it failed to live up to the hype. The rematch between Morales and Barerra was a very good fight in my eyes but because of the nature in which the first fight was fought alot of people said that it didn't live up to its billing.
Ohh yeah, I definatly know what you are talking about....Personally I havent seen a better fight out of 2 GREAT fighters since taylor vs chavez....I still feel I got my 70 dollars worth, I still question what could have become of the remaining 3 rounds left
DLH-Hopkins was a bigger fight to me then hagler/leonard, just because I was like 3 years old when they fought and this is the big fight of my time between the 2 great legends, I still have more excitement watching this fight (watched it 4 times so far) then when I replay hagler/leonard.....
Dlh/hopkins and leonard/hagler showed very small similarities last night....
Hopkins was a serpent last night lol.
