The mission remains the same for Blair ‘The Flair’ Cobbs.

A stiff test awaits the outspoken welterweight, who next faces Alexis Rocha in a scheduled 10-round co-feature on Saturday’s DAZN show from USC Galen Center in Los Angeles. The hope is that—with a win—Cobbs can proceed with his usual list of more notable boxers with whom he’d prefer to share a ring.

“I’ve been trying to get a hold of a lot of top contenders,” Cobbs told BoxingScene.com. “I would love a fight with [former WBA/WBC welterweight champ] Keith Thurman. [Former four-division titlist] Mikey Garcia, please sign the contract. You got nothing else to lose. You’re gonna lose but you’re gonna sign the contract, make a lot of money and be relevant again.

“We have [former four-division titleholder] Adrien Broner, he’s still ‘The Problem.’ We need to get him back in the ring and back in action with Blair ‘The Flair.’ That’s a mega fight. Conor Benn, mega fight.”

Cobbs (15-0-1, 10KOs) has called out the top welterweights for as long as a light has shone on his career. The 32-year-old southpaw from Philadelphia—who lives in Las Vegas and trains out of Freddie Roach’s Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood—has been a pro for nine years, despite only entering his seventeenth pro fight which explains his eagerness to elevate the competition level.

For now, he has to settle on a crossroads bouts with Rocha (18-1, 12KOs), a resurgent welterweight from Santa Ana, California on a two-fight win streak. Cobbs has every intention of using this fight as a springboard for the opportunities he feels that he has long deserved.

“We need big mega fight attractions,” insists Cobbs, who is coming off a highlight reel fifth-round knockout of Brad Solomon last June 19 in El Paso, Texas. “I’m not really interested in fighting more of these young contenders just so they can say, ‘Oh you knocked them off before they were anybody.’ I don’t know if I’ll even get the credit for beating Alexis. They’ll probably just say, ‘Oh, who did he beat?’ because they love saying that about me.

“But I’m in the fire, fighting these contenders that truly believe that they can beat me. Nobody else is doing it. Even the young up-and-coming fighters, they’re not calling each other out. I’m the only one calling everybody out. When it’s done and I’m at the level, I don’t want to hear none of that bull. I put the work in. Let me see these other guys get knocked down and get back up and fight. Let me see you get hurt right quick, go through some struggle. Blair the Flair been through some struggle.”

A few days ago, Cobbs-Rocha was elevated to the main event slot of the card, after top contender Vergil Ortiz Jr. (18-0, 18KOs) of Grand Prairie, Texas withdrew with illness from his scheduled fight with England’s Michael McKinson (21-0, 2KOs).
