Fortune Expects Drian Francisco To Impress With Avalos

Filipino super bantamweight Drian Franisco is ready for his big test against world rated American Chris “The Hitman” Avalos in the main event of ESPN's Friday Night Fights at the Texas Station Casino in Las Vegas on Friday. Former heavyweight contender and one-time Manny Pacquiao strength and conditioning coach Justin Fortune, who has been training Francisco at his Los Angeles Gym, told BoxingScene.com/Manila Standard - “Drian is very good. He’s ready for this fight, ready to fight.” He said Francisco “has had some great sparring with a youngster who has an 18-2 record and was an Avalos look-alike and a couple of bigger guys, 135 pounders for strength.”

Las Vegas - Chris Avalos of San Diego will take on super bantamweight Drian Francisco of the Philippines on Top Rank's ESPN Friday Night Fights card in the Dallas Events Center at the Texas Station Gambling Hall & Casino on July 12. Avalos has a record of 21-2 with 16 knockouts. Francisco is 23-1-1 with 18 knockouts. The main event is scheduled for 10 rounds. The big card will include an anticipated showdown between two young undefeated fighters. Glen Tapia, 18-0, 10 KOs, of Passaic, N.J. will face Abie Han, 19-0, 12 KOs, of El Paso, Texas. The super welterweight bout is set for 10 rounds. There will be a full card of fights including local favorites. First bell is 5 pm local time. The televised bouts begin 7 pm. Tickets at $50, $25 plus applicable fees go on sale Friday, May 31.

A planned ESPN doubleheader is being shifted from June 14th to July 12th. In a super bantamweight contest, Chris Avalos (21-2, 16KOs) takes on Drian Francisco (24-1-1, 19KOs) in the main event. In the co-feature, a junior middleweight battle of undefeated up and coming contenders, with Glen Tapia (18-0, 10KOs) facing Abraham Han (19-0, 12KOs). The event is going to take place at Texas Station Casino Las Vegas.

Super featherweight Toka-Khan Clary stopped Pablo Cupul in the second round of a scheduled four round bout. The southpaw Clary (4-0 1NC, 3 KOs) dropped Cupul with a counter left hook to the canvas. While Cupul (2-11, 2 KOs) got up and fought back, Clary repeatedly landed hard right hooks or counter left hands. Clary had his ways in the second round, eventually hurting Cupul again with a vicious left hand. That prompted referee Jack Reiss to immediately step in and stop the bout at 2:15.
