Macau, China - Radio Rahim briefly catches up with WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao following his one-sided battering of previously undefeated Chris Algieri, who also holds the WBO's championship at the junior welterweight limit of 140-pounds. Pacquiao scored a whopping total of six knockdowns to win a ridiculously lopsided twelve round unanimous decision over Algieri.
Filipino ring icon Manny Pacquiao comprehensively dismantled American Chris Algieri to retain his WBO welterweight title at the Cotai Arena in Macau on Sunday. Pacquiao dropped Algieri to the canvas six times during the 12-round contest in the southern Chinese city to win an overwhelming unanimous decision: 119-103, 119-103, 120-102 on the judges' cards. Algieri, the unbeaten WBO light welterweight champion, was outclassed from the start, with the eight-division world champion Pacquiao knocking the Long Islander down twice in the second round, though on one occasion it looked like a slip. Pacquiao was landing punches at will as the quick Algieri tried to run, slip and hide from the onslaught.
Trainer Freddie Roach was disappointed with the performance of Chris Algieri (20-1, 8KOs), who was dropped six times in losing a very wide twelve round decision to WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao on Saturday night at the Cotai Arena at the Venetian in Macau, China. Two ringside judges scored the bout 119-103 while the third had it 120-102. In the weeks leading up to the fight, Algieri proclaimed that he was a 'master boxer' and he vowed to dominate Pacquiao in the contest. The Long Island boxer and his team were very confident of outboxing Pacquiao to victory. Roach says his boxer got the last laugh.

It was Pacquiao’s third straight dominant win since a knockout loss to rival Juan Manuel Marquez in 2012. Throughout the week, chatter was elevated about an Algieri win possibly setting up the long awaited unification showdown between Pacquiao and lineal/WBC/WBA Welterweight Champion Floyd Mayweather. The Algieri win is secured. If the Mayweather fight is not, how much longer will the public care to watch what they saw on Saturday?

Later tonight in Macau, Roach's fighter Manny Pacquiao will defend his WBO welterweight championship against Algieri at a catch-weight of 144-pounds. Back in June, Algieri survived two knockdowns and a swollen eye to win an upset twelve round decision over Ruslan Provodnikov to capture the WBO junior welterweight title.
Back in September, during their promotional press tour, WBO junior welterweight champion Chris Algieri gave a stone necklace to Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach. Algieri, who has a master’s degree in nutrition from Stony Brook University, wears the exact same necklace and claims the stones help create positive energy and provide health benefits.
